It all started one morning when my dad called and told me about an experience he had in the middle of the night. Unable to sleep his mind began to wander until it stumbled upon the fascinating concept of this story. Flashes of memories from the past related to paranormal experiences from his teen years, swirled around the story line and my dad felt as though he was onto something truly unique!
Quickly, he woke up his wife and began to tell her about this idea. While discussing it with her, the room lit up and they both agreed that was a sure sign that this story needed to be written. As soon as the sun was up he called me and told me all about it. He asked me if I’d be interested in writing the story since I was already a published author. The story concept was so enthralling that I couldn’t resist and I agreed.
Later that month during a family Christmas party, my dad and I stepped aside and laid out the entire outline for the book – which would be a trilogy series. He pointed out key experiences that had happened to him and people we knew that he wanted to incorporate into the book. I as well pulled from documented experiences of several near death encounters. Since NDE books make up ninety percent of my personal library, I had a wealth of insight to contribute to the story. In an instant the characters were born and from that day forward it truly felt as though these characters had become a part of our lives.
Quickly, I went to work at writing the book, sending each chapter to my dad and his wife who were anxiously waiting with popcorn in hand. Just like a TV series, they got one episode per week and couldn’t wait until the next chapter arrived. It was the highlight of each week. Never before had a story evoked so much emotion and anticipation from any of us. It truly was an adventure we’ll never forget!
When the story was finally complete, we knew we had something monumental – something that would forever leave an imprint in modern day fiction. I thank my dad, Roger D. Willardson for asking me to be a part of this exciting project. It is our hope that you the reader, enjoy the experience you are about to become a part of; an experience that will open your eyes to a world of incredible possibilities. Through the very real events of many who have bravely shared, a story has been born to take you on a journey, you’ll never forget!

Rocky Road by Josi S. Kilpack Book Review

rocky road
Rocky Road

Rocky Road It was supposed to be a girls’ weekend in scenic St. George, Utah that would include shopping, trying out the local cuisine, and participating in a breast cancer fundraiser. The fact that one of the organizers of the fundraising event, a local doctor, disappeared two months ago was not supposed to be Sadie’s problem. In fact, she refuses to participate in the grassroots investigation her friend Caro, and Caro’s cousin, Tess, have put together prior to her arrival. But then she meets the ex-wife of the missing doctor. How could she not ask a few questions . . . that lead to a few more questions . . . that lead to a small town and yet even more questions. Before she knows it, Sadie is in the middle of yet another murder investigation and trying to piece together a convoluted trail of good intentions, hidden motivations, and philanthropy turned big business.

My Review:

I have read all of the books in Josi Kilpack's Culinary Mystery series.  I am first and foremost a fan and then I had the privilege to be an early reviewer, I am ecstatic!  Sadie Hoffmiller is the main character in each book in the series and her quirks and penchant to get in over her head leaves me laughing and shaking my head. Sadie is such a unique character that she has become like a friend to me throughout this series!  I feel like I know how she will feel and react to situations during each book.

Rocky Road is a great new installment in the Culinary Mystery series and I love that Ms. Kilpack switched it up a bit in this book!  For the first time since Sadie and Pete have been dating, Sadie is completely on her own and left to make her own judgement calls!  Pete is out of the country on a trip and Sadie doesn't hear from him, not even by email.  She has to learn to rely on her experience and knowledge and to trust her instincts that have guided her to success in the past.  In Rocky Road, Sadie doesn't try to become involved in the mystery, like so many times previously.  In fact she does the opposite and tries to stay out of it!  Rocky Road is full of fun, laughter, some danger and of course a mystery that needs solving!  If you have read her previous books you will love Rocky Road!  If you haven't read the Culinary Mystery series, I highly recommend them!  They are full of laugh out loud moments and suspense that will keep you turning until the last word is read!

Blackmoore, A Proper Romance by Julianne Donaldson Book Review & Blog Tour

Title: Blackmoore
Author: Julianne Donaldson
Page Count: 276
Genre: Regency Romance
Book Brand: A Proper Romance

About Blackmoore
Kate Worthington knows she can never have her heart’s desire and so believes she will never marry. But Kate’s meddlesome mother has other plans. Kate journeys to the stately manor of Blackmoore on the cliffs above the seashore, where she must face the truth and the man that has kept her heart captive.

Set in northern England, Blackmoore is a Regency romance that tells the story of a young woman struggling to learn to follow her heart. With hints of Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters, Blackmoore is a page-turning tale of romance, intrigue and devotion.

My Review:

Blackmoore was an amazing book reminiscent of Jane Austen!  I loved Kate, she was so determined to be different than her mother and her sisters.  I admired her strength and her moral character.  Then there was Henry, *sigh*.  Henry and his sister Sylvia, were Kate's neighbors and best friends.  I honestly think that everyone needs their own Henry!  What a guy!  And every man needs their own Kate!  A girl who was so comfortable being herself yet so determined to make her own way.  I read this book in one sitting!  I couldn't seem to get enough of the story and the pages flew by quickly.  Blackmoore was truly a 'proper romance' and one that you won't want to miss!!!  It is completely different then Edenbrooke, yet it draws you in the same way!  Author Julianne Donaldson has a gift and I am so glad she decided to share it with the world!  Flawless writing and regency romance at its best, Blackmoore is a five star stellar novel!

A Good-Lookin' Man by Marcia Lynn McClure Blog Tour

goodlookinA Good-Lookin' Man by Marcia Lynn McClure (novella) However, in an instant—in less than a breath or the bat of an eyelid—the elusive pepper spray hiding somewhere in her purse was all but forgotten. For standing before her—right there before her, not three feet away—was the best-looking, most gorgeous, handsomest man she had ever seen in all her life! “No, seriously,” she thought out loud with lingering bewilderment at how perfectly stunning the man standing before her was, wearing a worn pair of Levi’s, dusty cowboy boots, and a short-sleeved, plaid-print, snap-up shirt that hung open, revealing a bronzed, perfectly sculpted torso that was simply a mass of muscles. She was so unsettled by the man’s appearance that she wasn’t sure whether she was whispering aloud to herself or her car. Either way, the man asked, “Beg your pardon, ma’am?” “Oh…oh, nothing,” Fairlee said as she began rummaging in her purse again. But the man’s presence and appearance had entirely rattled her. As her awe-inspired brain obviously quit sending out instructions to the rest of her body, Fairlee felt her purse slip from her hands—watched in humiliated dismay as its contents tumbled out and scattered over the shoulder of the road.

My Review:

In true Marcia Lynn McClure fashion, A Good-Lookin' Man is a light-hearted romance that will have you laughing and smiling!  It is a nice and refreshing read without all of the drama of emotional baggage or a love triangle.  Fairlee isn't your typical character and she says and does the silliest things!  And Lash, he is handsome and so sweet, *sigh*.  I think everyone will wish that they could have an Aunt Pearl and Uncle Bean like Fairlee!   If you are looking for a quick pick-me-up read without all of the angst of other romance novels, then A Good-Lookin' Man is the book for you!

BIG is Beautiful by Kelly Martin, Blog Tour & Guest Post!

Welcome to Author Kelly Martin!  She is here today on Books Are Sanity to share about her newest release, Big is Beautiful!  Check out this gorgeous cover!

I'm so excited to be here and talk about my new book bestselling book, BIG is BEAUTIFUL.
Brittany has a big problem (pun intended). She's not the smallest girl in her class which wouldn't be so bad except for Kendra Moses-- beautifully wicked Kendra Moses-- who taunts her about it every day.
For her part, Brittany just wants to be invisible. It's working out pretty good for her until her mom signs her up for math tutoring-- and that tutor turns out to be football hunk Matt Taylor.
Yeah... I don't see any conflict here either ;)
BIG is one of my favorite books. It was honestly the easiest I ever wrote. I never had a Kendra Moses (or a Matt Taylor for that matter), but I was always on the bigger side in high school. I love Brittany's wit and her attitude. I think a lot of people can relate to not only her sassiness, but her vulnerability.

BLURB:
The seven worst words ever spoken came out of Brittany Gregory's mom's mouth at breakfast, "I signed you up for math tutoring." Sure, she probably needs it (probably nothing, she'll fail without it), but the thought of having to stay in that school longer than she had to every day makes her sick. It's not the school's fault... just the few jerks inside.

Brittany's tutor is none other than Matt Taylor, senior quarterback-- all around hottie. At first, she's shy around him because, hello, Matt Taylor! But as he shows more and more unexpected kindness toward her, Brittany softens around him.

Unfortunately for Brittany, Matt's former girlfriend, the beautifully wicked Kendra Moses, has tormented Britt since eighth grade about her weight. In an unusual moment of brains, Kendra realizes Brittany's initials spell B.I.G.-- a hilarious (to the cheerleader) irony since Brittany isn't the smallest girl at school.

With the Red Ball (Valentine's Dance) approaching, Brittany has to decide if her growing feelings for Matt are real, or if he's secretly been playing a part in Kendra's game all along.

EXCERPT:
The bus dropped me off at the same time it always did: 7:50. Same morning time, much later and much more embarrassing afternoon time. All because my mom signed me up for tutoring. Technically, I supposed, since I was the one who couldn’t do geometry, it was my fault.
As if I didn’t have enough going against me, now people… well, people who cared… would know I stunk at math. Ugh.
After I stepped off of the bus, I slung my backpack over my shoulder. Feeling the cold morning chill pelting me, I zipped my new coat higher around my neck and tried to cover every bit of exposed skin I could. I must have slowed or shifted or done something to tick off the guy behind me because he decided to take it upon himself to yell loudly and with much annoyance, “Move it, Big. I know you have a lot of blubber to carry around. Give the rest of us a break, would ya?”
And there it was. The first use of my nickname today. It wouldn’t be the last. My name at school was Big like Jillian’s name was Jillian and Kendra’s name was Kendra… well, some people called Kendra other names besides Kendra, but never in front of her face, and never with a crowd around.
Of course, like always, snickers followed. You’d think my peers would get tired of it by now. It had been the same thing, the same taunting by the same jerks since I was in eighth grade and got a little bit on the chunky side. I’d never be a supermodel, but I wished they would give me a break! My entire life didn’t revolve around eating. I didn’t eat fast food every night and sit around like a log. Grandma Duke on my mom’s side had been big boned, and I supposed I inherited the dreaded gene from her. Having never seen my biological father nor his side of the family, I had no idea if I’d been doubly cursed.
Man, I sounded like a whiner.
“Big!” Caleb, the guy behind me, tapped me hard on the shoulder like I was deaf. Guess he thought I was too fat to hear. Guess I’d start walking slower… guess it was on purpose. Oh, to have the control.
“Move it! I have a class to get to.” He pushed me out of the way so hard I slammed against the brick wall. It was enough force to scuff the top of my right hand. Little droplets of blood beaded out of the scrapes.
“Can you even fit through the door?” He laughed, not taking a second look back at the girl leaning against the building in shock. I’d been made fun of before, laughed at, shunned, but I’d never been pushed. Never had physical evidence.
A steady stream of my fellow students walked by me, some giggling and some just ignoring me. Others looked sad for me, which strangely was worse. I felt a hand on my shoulder which surprised me. My head shot up, and when I saw who it was, my mouth went instantly dry.
Matt Taylor.
The Matt Taylor!
“You okay?”
I couldn’t make my lips work. Matt Taylor, senior football star (star was too little of a word. Matt was a legend at Easton, leading the team to the first ever 2A championship in December) stared down at me. His pale blue eyes were soft. “Are you hurt?”
I still hadn’t spoken, just stared at him like I’d never seen a guy before in my life. I’d seen them before, had seen Matt before, but I’d never talked to him. Finally, blood ran back into my brain and I shook my head, forcing myself to stop acting like a stupid groupie. “Yeah, I’m fine. Sorry to block your way.”
“You’re not.”
Sure. “Anyway. Thanks for stopping.”
He smiled, showing his famous dimples. I was so gawking at him. “No problem. I’ll see you later.”
“Okay.” I watched him walk through the double doors and snapped out of my daydreaming when the ten minute bell rang. I started walking then hesitated. See me later? We didn’t have any classes together.

Mail-Order Holiday Brides: Snowflakes for Dry Creek by Janet Tronstad, Book Review

Blurb:

The Best Gifts Are Always Unexpected  Home for Christmas by Jillian Hart

Christina Eberlee is desperate for the safe haven promised to her by the Montana man whose bridal ad she answered. Yet she can't forget the handsome marshal who helps her on the journey. Maybe venturing from her planned path could lead Christina to the home she was truly meant to find.

Snowflakes for Dry Creek by Janet Tronstad

"Maybe you could marry her." Gabe Stone's niece and nephew long for a mother just like the mail-order bride Gabe's brother sent for and then abandoned. Yet in making the children's Christmas dreams come true, Gabe and Annabelle may discover the most precious gift of the holidays is love.

My Review of Snowflakes for Dry Creek:

I loved this simple yet heartwarming story of love and family during Christmas time.  Gabe was so sweet and kind; such a thoughtful and good person.  Annabelle was the mail order bride for her brother, and who could for-see the news she would receive once she got off of the train?  Yet Annabelle handled it well and her love for the children showed what a good person she was.  If you are looking for a heartwarming Christian based Christmas story, this short book is just the right read for you!

Beyond Broken by Kristin Vayden, Book Review

Blurb:

He was searching for hope in a world that had offered him everything.

She had the answer...but had lost her heart.

How far is too far for love when you find yourself "Beyond Broken"?

My Review:

WOW!  Seriously, this book took me by surprise and is completely amazing!  This new adult novel was an excellent read!  Yes there was an edge, emotions, angst, drugs and some other things typical of the new adult genre.  But what makes Beyond Broken special and unique is the Christian theme throughout the book.  Is it pushy?  No way.  Is it too much?  Absolutely not!  It is beautifully intertwined into the healing and recovery process that Greyson is going through.  Sophia is a great guide and source of help as Greyson recovers from his addiction.  The love story makes me smile!  Why?  Because it isn't your typical love story.  Hard choices have to be made.  Sacrifices even.  And I loved that Kristin Vayden is bold in today's world and made the statement that intimacy should be reserved for marriage!  It was refreshing for me to read a book that had more to it than just a surface romance where two characters want each other and jump into bed together.   You will not be disappointed in this unique NA novel, you will love it!  You will be pleasantly surprised at how different, yet compelling this story is!  Five fabulous stars and I want more books by Kristin Vayden!!!
I received a coy of this book for free.  This is my honest review.

You can pick up your own copy of Beyond Broken via Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

Anywhere by J. Meyers, Book Review

Blurb:

Skye Whitcomb is running from her troubles, and where better to run than Europe? Fresh out of college, she makes quick plans with her best friend Paige and hops on a plane.

Of course, nothing ever goes as planned—at least not for her. First, Paige has to bail, and Skye’s left to travel alone. Then she meets sweet and sexy Asher Benedict in Paris, and sparks fly after a night together on the train to Rome. He’s all kinds of perfect for her, but the timing couldn’t be worse since she was running from the altar when she left—so the last thing she wants right now is a relationship.

But Skye’s about to discover that no matter how far you run, love can find you anywhere.

My Review:

I've been reading J. Meyers' books forever and I have absolutely LOVED every one of them. I was really excited for the opportunity to read her first NA book, Anywhere! Anywhere is a story about Skye who goes backpacking across Europe with her best friend Paige. The only problem is that a few days into the trip Paige has to go home.  Skye just can't bring herself to leave so she decides to backpack on her own.  Scary!!!  However, she meets this guy, Asher at the train station.  They get along well and she feels like she can trust him.  I kept thinking in my head, 'this is a bad idea', but it's a book so I can let it go.  Anyway, sparks fly between the two of them and Skye feels like for once she can be completely herself with someone.  She is attracted to Asher as well yet she just got out of a relationship and doesn't want to rebound.  Both Skye and Asher have some emotional baggage that they work through together.

Overall, I enjoyed this story and I never felt like the pace was lagging or dragging.  I wanted to keep reading it and J. Meyers keeps the reader wanting more!  I honestly got not just the chemistry between Asher and Skye, but also the understanding that Asher had of Skye as a person.  It felt like they were meant to be together!   The ending was good, but I would have loved some more information or perhaps an epilogue, but that's because I like things neat and tidy :)  I feel I must include in my review that the "f-bomb" is used more than a handful of times and that there are a few open door sex scenes.  I was really quite shocked at the use of the "f-bomb", I felt like it was unnecessary to the story and the points could have been illustrated just the same with a less offensive word.  This is considered new adult, so it is not recommended for anyone under eighteen due to the content.  I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

You can pick up your own copy of Anywhere via Amazon.

Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson, Book Review

Blurb:

Marianne Daventry will do anything to escape the boredom of Bath and the amorous attentions of an unwanted suitor. So when an invitation arrives from her twin sister, Cecily, to join her at a sprawling country estate, she jumps at the chance. Thinking she’ll be able to relax and enjoy her beloved English countryside while her sister snags the handsome heir of Edenbrooke, Marianne finds that even the best laid plans can go awry.

From a terrifying run-in with a highwayman to a seemingly harmless flirtation, Marianne finds herself embroiled in an unexpected adventure filled with enough romance and intrigue to keep her mind racing. Will she be able to rein in her traitorous heart, or will a mysterious stranger sweep her off her feet? Fate had something other than a relaxing summer in mind when it sent Marianne to Edenbrooke.

My Review:

AMAZING!!!  I seriously and completely fell in love with this book and its characters.  I couldn't put it down, I had to stay up until the wee hours of the morning to finish reading it!  Edenbrooke is writing in the classic Jane Austen style.  Regency, proper romance, and established relationships.  I fell in love with the characters!  I felt their emotions!  My heart was racing, my stomach was fluttering and if I were prone to tears there would have been some!  The writing was exceptional so that as a reader,  I felt every emotion conveyed clearly through the book.  I became so caught up in Marianne, Phillip and Cecily's lives that my world faded to the background and all I could see was Edenbrooke.  From the conversations in the library to the horse back riding across the property, there was never a dull moment in this book!   If you are a fan of Austen or just a fan of a great 'proper' romance, then you absolutely have to read Edenbrooke!  I am still amazed a few days later at the excellence of this story!  Five fabulous stars, Julianne Donaldson is a brilliant writer!

You can pick up your own copy of Edenbrooke via Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

Happy Reading!!!

New Release! Big is Beautiful: A Love Story by Kelly Martin

BIG IS BEAUTIFUL: A LOVE STORY

Can Brittany have the night of her life? Or is it all a lie?

Not Even Once Club, Blog Tour and Book Review

Title:               The Not Even Once Club
Author:          Wendy Watson Nelson
Book Type:    Children’s Picture Book

The Not Even Once Club

The Not Even Once Club is an adorable and appealing way to engage children in a story that will help them choose for themselves to keep the commandments and to never break them. Not even once.

Children will meet Tyler, an energetic boy who is excited to make new friends in his Primary class. They have invited Tyler to join their special club, but first he has to pass the test and keep the club promise.

With illustrations from bestselling illustrator Brandon Dorman, The Not Even Once Club is a fun and engaging way for parents to help teach their children the importance of keeping the commandments. Included in the back of the book are additional teaching helps for parents and leaders.

My Review:

I loved this children's book geared toward LDS children!  The pictures are beautiful and vibrant and the message of the book is wonderful!  Any LDS parent will want to read this to their children!  It is short enough to keep their interest and it teaches a powerful message about the importance of obeying the commandments.  I loved that Tyler was strong in his convictions while he was taking his 'test' to join the club and he already knew what his response would be to whether or not he would break the Word of Wisdom.  I think that for children and even teenagers, it is a great idea to have them promise that they won't try drugs, alcohol, lie or cheat (and so on).  Not even once! The poster that the club gave to Tyler so he could join is available for download on Deseret and it would make a great Family Home Evening activity!  You could read the story and then give a poster to each of your children or have them all sign their names to one!  A fabulous message in a world where it is getting harder to choose the right, The Not Even Once Club can boost your kids' confidence in their every day decisions in life!

I received a copy of this book for free.  This is my honest review.
