Silver Linings The Ripple Effect Series, Blog Tour & Book Review

Updated Silver

Silver Linings by Kaylee Baldwin
Drew Westfall wants nothing more than to forget what he had to do in the name of "smart" business. Cutting off all ties with his parents—including handing over the entire contents of his trust fund to a charity—he takes off for Bridger, Colorado where his best friend has an extra room for him. It doesn't take long for him to realize that his business degree won’t do him much good in a town as small as Bridger, but he's broke and has nowhere else to go. Eden Torresi has every reason to wallow. Not only did she have to sell her house to pay for her mother’s medical expenses, but she also had to drop out of school and is in a relationship with a guy unwilling to commit. But Eden isn't the wallowing type. Instead, she chooses to spend most of her time taking care of the seniors at Silver Linings Assisted Living. When she learns that her boyfriend's new roommate is down on his luck, her caring nature makes her want to reach out to him and offer what help she can. But the more time they spend together, the more complicated things get, especially when the seniors of Silver Linings decide to play matchmaker.

My Review:
Silver Linings is about Drew Westfall who we briefly met in the first met in Home Matters, book one of the Ripple Effect series.  Drew decided that money isn't as important as people so he gave away his $20 million dollar trust fund and goes to live with his friend Jace in Bridger, Colorado.  I love how Drew first meets Eden and then I was so bummed to realize she was Jace's girlfriend!  The mutual friendship and respect between Eden and Drew is great, but the chemistry between them is amazing and they hadn't even kissed!  Wow I just wanted them to kiss already!  There is more to Silver Linings than meets the eye!  I loved the residents of the assisted living home and their antics!  Each one of them made me smile and laugh!  Drew makes an amazing change in his lifestyle and I love how he learned to help and take care of others.  His transformation is wonderful to watch and the end result of the book left me with a big smile on my face!

Fearless (Ruin #2.5) by Rachel Van Dyken, Book Review

Blurb:

When I met Kiersten, time stood still. It was as if every cell in my body screamed HER. I couldn't look away, I couldn't walk away, I couldn't even move. My other half, my soul mate, was staring right at me. I had to have her. I had to make her mine. But I felt selfish doing that--knowing that I may not have endless amounts of time to give her...and even now that every things' over with and I've been given that time back.

Nothing is ever certain in this life.

Which is why I'm about to do something crazy, impulsive, daring.
After all, what type of person would I be if I didn't take my own advice?
I'm jumping off the cliff, I'm living fearlessly.

This is the continuation of Wes and Kiersten's story.

My Review:

Well Rachel Van Dyken has done it again!  I literally flew through the 100 pages of this novella and was left wanting more!  I love the surprise, the thoughtfulness, the emotions, the love that Wes and Kiersten have for each other.  Gabe, Saylor and Lisa all make appearances and I love how these friends all support and help each other like family! Van Dyken has a gift for writing that draws the reader completely into the world she has created!

Driven to Date (Better Date than Never #7) by Susan Hatler, Book Review

Blurb:

(Better Date than Never series, Book #7)

Career-driven attorney, Jill Parnell, has worked long and hard to become a partner at Corbett, Gray, & Shaw. When the coveted position is given to the boss’s nephew, she does what any intelligent employee would do—attends a colleague’s wedding and schmoozes a high-powered partner at another law firm.

Her potential new boss has only one condition for her, that she demonstrate a personal life that will support a thriving career. Pretending to have a boyfriend is outside Jill’s comfort zone, but she invites the best man to act the part and Ryan is all-too eager to play her significant other. Sparks fly between them, but she reminds herself she’s only driven to date to get back on the partner track.

When Jill discovers Ryan is the lawyer who stole her promotion, her charade threatens to implode. But breaking off their pretend relationship could cost her the job of her dreams. And the more she gets to know Ryan, the more she’s tempted to tame the bad boy, and make him her own.

My Review:

Driven to Date is a great addition to the Better Date than Never Series!  Jill is a hard working attorney, her entire life has been career driven.  Suddenly she finds herself passed over for the promotion she has worked five hard years for!  Faced with a challenge she never foresaw in her perfectly planned out life, Jill turns to a friend for help!  I love how she tried to embrace change even though she was such a planner!  Her new haircut, dress and outlook on life!  I really loved the scene at the wedding where she asked the groomsman Ryan to pretend to be her boyfriend!  I could feel the sparks flying off of the page!  Then the daggers Jill shoots him on Monday when she finds out he was the one who stole her promotion...priceless!!!  You will LOVE Driven to Date!  You will fall in love with the sexy hazel eyes of Ryan to the chivalrous side of him that wants to protect Jill and then you will find yourself rooting for him!   Another fantastic novel by Susan Hatler, Driven to Date is one fun and flirty read!

A Minute on the Lips by Cheryl Harper, Book Review

Blurb:

There are no secrets in Tall Pines…

Sheriff Andrea Jackson can't afford to become the subject of small-town gossip. With an election coming up and her job on the line, public opinion is crucial. That means keeping her distance from newspaper editor Mark Taylor.

Effortlessly handsome and dangerously charming, Mark is hard to resist, but his sudden interest makes Andi wonder if his dinner invitations are for business or pleasure. Andi has to admit she could use his help in solving a local theft, but working with Mark would make her the talk of the town, or worse…it could land her on the front page.

My Review:

A Minute on the Lips is a sweet and charming story set in the small town of Tall Pines; a close knit community that is full of some fun characters!  Sheriff Andrea Jackson is wound up so tight, has to have everything in order and nothing out of place....will she ever relax?  Newspaperman Mark Taylor is handsome and charming but has done the sheriff wrong.  Can she every forgive him and give in to her feelings of attraction for Mark?  Can she afford to be distracted during election year and with the robbery of the restaurant in town?  Anything she tells Mark could end up on the front page of the paper!  I fell in love with these characters, especially Andrea's Grandma!  I felt like I was there in Tall Pines when Andrea visited the salon and the diner!  I could picture the streets, the people, the community!  A wonderful story of learning to let go and realizing what your true priorities are, A Minute on the Lips will have you smiling until the very last page!

A Timeless Romance Anthology: Spring Vacation Collection

Blurb:

Six Award-Winning Authors have contributed new stories to A Timeless Romance Anthology: Spring Vacation Collection. Readers will love this collection of six sweet contemporary romance novellas, centered on a Spring Vacation, all with one thing in common: Romance.

In Moonlight Kiss, a delightful story by Josi S. Kilpack, Sarah is looking forward to the company retreat, namely because she’ll finally meet Clint—the man she’s been Instant Messaging for a few months. As a single mom, Sarah gets out . . . well, never. So adding vacation days onto the retreat so she can spend time with Clint is daring, yet exciting. She just hopes that the suave on-line Clint will live up to the man she hopes to share her heart with.

In Annette Lyon’s charming novella, Chasing Tess, Tess had been patiently waiting through three years of law school for James to pop the question. The night has finally arrived—at his graduation party. But his big announcement turns out to be completely unexpected . . . and devastating. Tess flees the party, promising herself she’ll never let herself waste time on James again. But as she makes a desperate cross-country drive, James makes his own plans on how to win her back.

Dancing at the Flea Market is a sweet romance by Heather Justesen. Mara, fresh out of the cold North Dakota tundra, spends her spring break in Texas with close friend, Anna. When the two women run into Carter, an impatient man with a painful past, it takes hearing Mara’s stunning voice at the local Karaoke club to thaw his heart. But as Mara gets to know Carter, she has to decide if the distance between their lives and homes is worth trying to bridge.

In Sarah M. Eden’s captivating novella, The Best Laid Plans, Madison gives up a vacation to Cancún with her office friends to return home and babysit her mother, who is in another sketchy relationship. The only problem with returning home is running into Derek, her ex-boyfriend who she decided to break up with before he could break up with her—Madison believes in always being one step ahead. When Derek teams up with Madison to investigate whether her mother is dating the right guy, Madison has a hard time ignoring what her heart is telling her about giving Derek another chance.

Picture Perfect, an exciting story by Heather B. Moore, follows Gemma who has never done anything out of the ordinary, until her boyfriend Randy starts to ignore her. But even cutting and dyeing her hair doesn’t get his attention. She decides to join her old high school friends for spring vacation, only to be faced with Drew, her best friend who suddenly seems interested in her as more than a friend. Gemma must determine if her heart is on the rebound or if it’s finally met its true match.

In Aubrey Mace’s enchanting romance, The Science of Sentiment, Rosie will do anything to forget Kevin, his completely perfect kisses, and the fact that he dumped her. When she arrives at her grandfather’s mountain cabin for a spring getaway, she discovers her worst nightmare—Kevin has been invited to stay the weekend too. Since there is only room for one in such a small space, Rosie is determined to kick Kevin out. But Kevin has other plans . . . which might include a reminder of why he’s the perfect kisser.

My Review:

Once again another great collection of love stories!  This book is an excellent value for the quality of the work and the quantity of stories.  There are six great stories by six authors.  Each one is different but all have a spring vacation as the setting.  I loved Picture Perfect by Heather Moore.  Gemma has been dating the wrong guy for too long and when he breaks up with her it may be what she needed to see what was in front of her all along!  I also really loved Sarah Eden's The Best Laid Plans.  It was very cute how Madison was always trying to help her mom in her love life and finally figures out what she needs to do in hers!  Moonlight Kiss by Josi Kilpack was a great read, it didn't turn out anything like I thought it would.  It was wonderful!  Chasing Tess by Annette Lyon was a fun read, a huge misunderstanding between boyfriend and girlfriend changed the course of their relationship!  Dancing at the Flea Market was one of my favorites!  The story really captivated me and I will definitely be looking for more by heather Jusstsen.  The Science of Sentiment by Aubrey Mace is a cute story about a couple who broke up and finds themselves stuck at the same small cabin snowed in!  If you love good clean romance stories, you will love The Spring Vacation Collection!  I look forward to reading more Timeless Romance Anthologies, they are my addiction in the reading world!

Imperfect Love by Rebecca Talley, LDS Blog Tour & Giveaway!

Imperfect Love Tour

Imperfect Love

 Imperfect Love

Lauren Wilson is well on her way to her happily-ever-after. She has a career she loves, a husband she adores and a baby on the way, but a devastating diagnosis changes everything. The life she's built suddenly crumbles around her when her husband insists she choose—the baby or him. Returning to her small hometown to rebuild her shattered life, Lauren crosses paths with Ethan Campbell, the man who stole her teenage heart. The old attraction is still there, but Lauren won't admit it to anyone—least of all herself. Her only priority is providing a life for her child, and she can't afford to get it wrong. Ethan is confusing everything, including stirring up feelings she’s not prepared to face. Will she spend her life raising her baby alone or is the family she's always wanted finally within her reach?

My Review:

Imperfect Love really grabs the reader's emotions and I was completely attuned to how Lauren felt in her relationship with her husband.  Then when she finds out the news about her pregnancy, Talley does a wonderful job of capturing every emotion that Lauren goes through.  When she finds out that the baby may have problems, I wanted to cry with her.  Talley really packs strong emotions and feelings into this book!  I could feel the pain, the heartache, and the indecision that Lauren was feeling.  I could feel her frustration with her husband working long hours and their disagreements over the baby.  And when Lauren made the ultimate decision about her baby, I cheered for her yet wanted to cry about it at the same time for what she would lose over it..her marriage.  Imperfect Love is not a fluffy love story, it isn't a typical romance novel at all.  In fact, the romance is such a minuscule part of the book.  It is a book about choices, courage and love.  This book is a journey.  I found it to be a wonderfully emotional journey that I was glad to be able to read.  I recommend this to anyone who likes substance to their books!  Bravo to Rebecca Talley!

Home Matters (The Ripple Effect Romance Novella Series #1) by Julie N. Ford, Blog Tour & Book Review

Home Matters Updated

Home Matters by Julie N. Ford
According to her mother, Olivia Pembroke was born to be a star. But how is she supposed to be famous when she can't even get a decent acting gig? Her lucky break comes when she lands an audition for a wildly popular home improvement show. Even though she has no design training and has never even held a power tool, she refuses to let that stop her. She's confident that her destiny is finally within reach. When her affections are torn between her heartthrob co-host and the irritating, yet somehow endearing lead contractor, does she continue to reach for the stars? Or does she design a new happily ever after? One that leads not to the fading lights of fame and fortune, but to a love that will burn forever.

My Review:

Home Matters is a cute story about Olivia who is a struggling actress who is on her last hope of making it in Hollywood.  She gets a lucky break and makes it as the new co-host on the home improvement show, Home Matters.  Olivia finds herself torn between her dreams of dating a famous celebrity and these sparks that are flying with the head contractor on the show.  Will Olivia learn to trust her heart or will she follow what she has always dreamed of?  What would you do if what you had always dreamed of and what you end up wanting are two completely different things?   I enjoyed the setting for the show, it reminded me of one of my favorite shows on TV.  Olivia and the two leading men in her life are quite entertaining yet gave me pause to consider what is really important.  A fun and fast read, Home Matters will leave you with a smile on your face!

Power to Become by David A. Bednar, Book Review

Book Description:
In Power to Become, Elder David A. Bednar explores how the Savior makes possible His divine commission, "Therefore I would that ye should be perfect even as I, or your Father who is in heaven is perfect" (3 Nephi 12:48).
Chapters in this thought-provoking book highlight the importance of the Atonement, the spiritual gift of personal peace, the importance of priesthood ordinances, and the responsibility we have to obey willingly and endure valiantly.
"As we increase in learning about the Savior and His gospel," Elder Bednar writes, "as we strive with ever greater consistency to act in His doctrine, ordinances, and covenants, then we are blessed with power through His Atonement to increasingly become like Him." Power to Become introduces vital tools we all can use to invite these eternally significant blessings into our lives.

My Review:

I was amazed at how quickly I became engrossed in Elder Bednar's newest book, Power to Become!  ( I have to be fair and let you know that I have not read the previous two books, however, I didn't feel at a disadvantage for reading this one.)  I loved each scripture, quote and example shared by Elder Bednar!  I felt while reading the book that I could use these concepts to become empowered to change myself for the better.  I could have easily highlighted the entire book because there were so many things that resonated with me!  (Thankfully there are extra wide margins for notes and sections at the end of each chapter for reflection where you can write in your own thoughts!) I can become who my Savior wants me to be!  What really stuck with me is that at the end of my life it isn't going to be about the sum total of what good and bad choices I have made, but about who I have become as a person.

For anyone searching for ways to develop spiritual patterns in their life, Power to Become gives you tools to help you develop those patterns and become the person you want to be.  One of them is that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.  When we do the small and simple things like reading our scriptures we are filling our lamps with oil.  There was one thing that Elder Bednar said that I want to type up and hang where I can see it every day.  It reads, "Every aspect of our lives is influenced by a correct understanding of who we are and of our responsibility to be loyal to the royal within us.  This fundamental truth is central to enduring valiantly to the end and becoming all that the Father and the Son yearn for us to become."  Wow, if we truly understand who we are as children of God, then it will help us endure and become all that Heavenly Father and the Savior want us to become.  How amazing!  There are so many wonderful treasures of knowledge just waiting for you to discover within the pages of Power to Become!  I recommend this jewel of a book to everyone!

Blurb: Cahri Michaels is American by birth, but Belikarian by choice. Being selected to participate in the Bridal March forces her to give up the independent life she’s created for herself. She’s not ready to be anyone’s wife, much less to a man she doesn’t know.

Prince Josiah Vallis despises the centuries old tradition—the Bridal March—that is forcing him to choose a wife from fifty women. Why does it matter that he’s twenty-five and still single?

When Cahri and Josiah meet, passion ignites. Will it spark a godly love that can see them through or will they be burned, never to be the same?

Prologue

Proverbs 31:10 “Who can find a virtuous and capable wife?”

Kral Sarayi, The King’s Palace
South Belikara
March 2011

“Father, must I do this?” Josiah Vallis stood rigid, feet spread in a soldier’s stance, in front of his father’s large, antique oak desk. His hands fisted behind his back as his mind reeled with the humiliation of having to find a wife in this manner.
He had tried, but every woman he'd met, both on his own and those his father had arranged, were money-hungry, power-hungry, unattractive, or all three. The one woman he thought perfect for him had betrayed him. She’d had him fooled, and now he doubted his own judgment when it came to the fairer sex.
He didn't want a wife just to produce heirs and to hang on his arm like a showpiece. His ideal mate would be much like his mother — a woman who could love him for who God intended him to be, not for his family name and position. His desired wife would be kind and considerate, would care for others more than herself, would be giving, loving, and attractive. Most important to him, and even harder to find, was for his wife to have a personal relationship with God.
He gazed around his father’s immense office. All the furnishings, made of quality materials, were fit for a king. One day it would be his, though he’d never wanted it. As the remaining male heir, he had no choice. He peered back at the man behind the desk.
His father's eyes, a shade lighter than his own dark brown, moved away from the computer screen with a spark of irritation. He leaned back in the chair. “Yes, Josiah. Stop procrastinating. Write the letter. It must be done today. You have waited until the last possible moment as it is. I expect more from you as a prince of Belikara and the future king.”
“Yes, sir.” He forced himself to relax, uncurling one finger at a time from his balled fist. “What should I write?”
“Josiah.” A familiar growl sounded from his father’s throat, and his hand tightened around the arm of the chair until his knuckles turned white. “Why must you act as though you are still in grade school? Grow up!” He switched back to his work. “Jonathan wouldn't have given me this much trouble.”
Josiah bristled at the mention of his deceased elder brother. Would he always live in Jonathan's shadow, never measuring up to his father's expectations? Why can't he see me for who I am?
He lowered his head, a disappointment to his father once again, and marched out of the room. The man hadn’t been swayed to postpone this hideous tradition, no matter how hard Josiah pushed.
In his own office, he sat at his mahogany desk and took out several sheets of paper and his favorite writing pen. The white of the paper, surrounded by the desk’s dark wood, glared at him. He glanced up to the verse displayed on the wall. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
Despite his need to write the letter, his thoughts wandered to the One he relied on so much. The One who always listened and never compared him to anyone else.
He rested his head in the palms of his hands. “Oh God, how can I go through this… this tradition my father insists on keeping? How can I choose a wife from fifty strangers? How can I write a letter expressing my desires and heart to these women when I struggle with knowing it myself? I ask you to give me the words. Use this letter to prepare the heart of the one you have chosen for me. Help me to know her when I see her. Amen.”
He wrote and crossed out greeting after greeting before deciding on Dear Ladies. Line after line flowed from his pen as he shared his heart for God and what the ladies should expect in the next six months. He also included the warning about rejecting the summons, although he expected they would all be thrilled to become the wife of the future king.
Over an hour later, Josiah completed his task. He reread his words, made a few minor changes, and rewrote it in his neatest handwriting. Satisfied, he set the paper aside.
His head bowed, he prayed again, expressing his gratitude to his heavenly father.
The letter was complete, but would it bring him a woman he could love?
