Amidst scandalous whispers, Ciardis finds herself chosen to train for the Companions Guild. She leaves her home and sets off on a personal journey to become a Court Companion. A position she’d never thought possible for a lowly servant to obtain, she must prove that she has the skills to attract a Patron. But she must master those skills quickly. If the legends are true, only Ciardis can harness the power to raise a Prince in an Imperial Court sworn to bring him down. This sensational series debut melds intricate storylines with remarkable characters and unforgettable magic. Sworn To Raise is ideal for fans of Kristin Cashore, Michelle Sagara, and Maria Snyder.

Another Time for Love by Lynne Larson, LDS Book Review

Book Summary:

Salt Lake County, Present Day
Sam Carroll is living life in the fast lane--sleek cars, nice clothes, and lovely ladies have replaced the gospel values he grew up with, and he's going nowhere fast. But when a serious car accident brings his fun to a screeching halt, Sam is left comatose, aware only of his older brother reading aloud from the hundred-year-old journal of an LDS bishop, Moroni Chadester. As Sam drifts in and out of consciousness, the words begin to take root in his mind . . .

Alpine, Utah, 1915
Standing on a dusty mountain road, Sam is bewildered. The cars are different. The clothes are different. Where and when is he? The answer comes from an impossible source: Bishop Moroni Chadester. Hurtled back in time by forces he can't understand, Sam finds his memories of modern existence quickly fading as he becomes immersed in a new life and a romance with the town beauty, Laney Williams. But as the pair becomes entangled in a murder mystery, the thrill of courtship is replaced by terror as fate conspires to bring the couple into the path of a killer. Little do they realize that the clock is ticking on more than their lives Sam can't stay in the past forever. As danger looms ever closer, Sam must fight to save Laney. But can their love stand the test of time?

My Review:

So this story begins with immediate action! Sam is involved in a car accident where he struggles to remain coherent and battles against the excruciating pain he is in! While his brother reads to him from an old journal in the hospital while he is in a coma, he ends up time traveling back in time! I love time travel books and add in some romance and I am so there! An interesting novel with a story you need to read for yourself, Another Time for Love is a good read for LDS readers everywhere!

Stick in the Mud meets spontaneity

Stick in the Mud Meets Spontaneity (Meet Your Match #3) by Rachael Anderson

Home from college for the summer, Samantha Kinsey steps into her role as nanny for her two favorite little charges. But when she finds herself playing chauffeur more than playmate, her summer outlook quickly turns from fun to bleak. That is, until she drives the girls to a family-owned ranch and meets Colton McCoy—a genuine, hard-working cowboy, who's as set in his ways as he is handsome. Although he claims he doesn't need any fun in his life, Sam’s determined to help him find it. But she'll soon discover that cowboys are about as easy to train as wild mustangs. Stick in the Mud Meets Spontaneity is about an adaptable girl and a not so adaptable guy. It’s about learning to accept people for who they are and realizing that sometimes who they are is exactly who they should be.

My Review:

Stick in the Mud Meets Spontaneity is an excellent addition to the Meet Your Match Series! I love how Anderson writes her books; they easily sweep me away into another world! I love that you can read each book as a stand alone but if you have read the previous ones you recognize the characters that are tied into each story! Sam is a fun and spontaneous girl and Colton is pretty much the opposite! Together their story is a lot of fun and one you will want to read! As always, Anderson has written a book that took me away from my world and into the one she created!

The Way Back to Heaven by S. Michael Wilcox, LDS Blog Tour

Book Summary:

Our earliest scripture tells the story of those who thought they could build a structure high enough to get to heaven, and of the consequences of that mistaken belief. In contrast, the prophet Jacob dreamed of a ladder sent down from heaven by God, with rungs—steps—that we could ascend to return to Him. In The Way Back to Heaven: The Parable of the Crystal Stairs, award-winning author S. Michael Wilcox helps us discern the "stairs of man" from the "stairs of God." Using the metaphor of a beautiful crystal stairway, he shows us the difference between a focus on "being and becoming" and "believing and doing" in our life's journey. While we may think we know the steps we'll need to take, the author suggests some unexpected—even counterintuitive—yet essential stairs each of us will encounter as we make our way back to our Father in Heaven.

My  Review:

The Way Back to Heaven by S. Michael Wilcox

I am a new reader of Wilcox and I was pleasantly surprised by how easy his style of writing is to read. Oftentimes church books are hard for me to follow or to keep my interest. Wilcox takes a dream he had, comparable to Jacob's ladder and explains step by step through scriptures and related stories how we can follow Christ. I found myself reviewing my own behavior, deciding what things I am holding on to that are preventing me from following my Savior up the stairs. I really love this book, it has made me self evaluate, but more than that, it brought me hope that I can change, give up whatever habits or behaviors I am holding on to and be better! I loved all the scriptural references, I would look them up and  it brought even more meaning to what Wilcox explained. I highly recommend this book to any LDS reader! I have to share one of my favorite lines from the book, "Somewhere among all those paths, all those shadows and dreary darkness, through the fog and mists and towering stone and brick stairways, He will be there. We need only find Him."

My Review:

Well the summary and cover are what had me wanting to read this book, but I have to admit that I had no clue what a 'GIF' was and had to look it up in order to understand the title. That aside, Grace and Ashton were the perfectly imperfect main characters! Grace was all fire and putting off a persona of perfection, while Ashton was all cool, relaxed and smooth! Polar opposites made them perfect for their battle of the sexes radio show and I loved reading all about it and feeling the sparks fly! There was a lot of fun and fire between Ash and Grace, I just wanted them to figure out that they were perfect for each other! I mean, come on people, opposites do attract! Anyhow, this is an easy read that will leave the reader with a smile on their face!

Elude (Eagle Elite #6) by Rachel Van Dyken, Blog Tour

The sixth book in the internationally bestselling Eagle Elite Series.
*Interconnected Stand Alone*

Book Summary:

Twenty-Four hours before we were to be married--I offered to shoot her.
Ten hours before our wedding--I made a mockery of her dying wish.
Five hours before we were going to say our vows--I promised I'd never love her.
One hour before I said I do--I vowed I'd never shed a tear over her death.
But the minute we were pronounced man and wife--I knew.
I'd only use my gun to protect her.
I'd give my life for hers.
I'd cry.
And I would, most definitely, lose my heart, to a dying girl---a girl who by all accounts should have never been mine in the first place.
I always believed the mafia would be my end game--where I'd lose my heart, while it claimed my soul. I could have never imagined. It would be my redemption.
Or the beginning of something beautiful.
The beginning of her.
The end of us.

EXCERPT

"You weren't kidding about those mimosas." Andi yawned behind her hand as we walked through Lincoln Park. I'd originally thought to take her to the zoo since she had that odd fascination with animals, but after seeing how tired she was, I decided to save it for another day.
"Well…" I held in my chuckle. "…when you have five of them…"
"I had three." She held up four fingers.
"Good to know you're just fine." I laughed. "Should I carry you?"
"Probably." She gave me a dopey grin. "But I think I can at least make it to the car."
"It's about a mile away."
"Oh." Her face fell.
"How about a piggyback ride?" I offered lamely, hating that a simple walk to the car was making her sad because she was so exhausted.
She stopped walking and crossed her arms. "Riding a cowboy was on the list."
"I'm not following."
"Talk to me in a southern accent, and I'll imagine a cowboy hat on that gorgeous head of hair and boom… I'm riding a cowboy."
I pinched the bridge of my nose. "Andi, I have so many different scenarios that would fit perfectly with that statement. None of them, however, include me carrying you through the park while singing 'Achy Breaky Heart.'"
"Oh good. You know it then?"
"I need to learn the art of silence."
"Probably true." She nodded.
"And teach it to you," I added.
"Aw, come on cowboy…"
I rolled my eyes and turned around so she could jump onto my back. "Should I find a park bench, or can you actually jump this high?"
"Never ask a ninja if she can jump — it's degrading."
"My mistake. I thought you were a short Russian masquerading as a baker. Go ahead, ninja. Jump."
She did, probably using the rest of the energy she had left. Her arms wrapped around my neck tightly. "Mush."
"I thought I was a horse."
"I changed my mind. Girls can do that on occasion."
Damn, the girl made me smile. The afternoon sun was starting to set as we walked along the path. Andi was encouraging me to use a southern accent in her most Russian accent.
And I was trying to pay attention to our surroundings, just in case we'd somehow been followed.
I thought we were in the clear until we reached the edge of the park. I could see the street, and immediately regretted that simple fact the minute two black sedans pulled up to the curb.
Five men got out.
Two from the first car.
Three from the second.
Andi tensed behind me.
"Andi." I kept my smile in place like there wasn't anything wrong. "Got any energy left?"
"Enough." She shuddered behind me.
"My gun," I whispered. "It's in the back of my pants. Reach between your legs and slide it up so nobody sees."
"You know in any other situation…" she muttered as I felt the gun slide up my back.
"Good," I encouraged. "The minute I put you down I want you to aim for the guy to the left. Don't shoot for the head. Hit his kneecap so he goes down. If he reaches for his gun—"
"This isn't my first rodeo, cowboy."
"You're right. I forget."
"I'm good. Don't worry about me."
The tension left my body. "I won't. Just don't get shot. I hate having to sew up bullet wounds."
"Please." I could feel the energy riding off her body. "You owe me a massage if my body count's higher."
"So now it's a competition?"
"Russians rarely lose."
"Well, you should get used to it. Because this Italian's going to hand you your ass."
"I'd like to see you try."
The men were trying to look nonchalant, outside their cars, smoking cigars like they weren't waiting for the perfect opportunity to attack.
"One," I whispered.
Andi slid farther down my back. "Two."
"Three." The word fell from my lips just as I ducked to the right. Andi went to my left and popped off two rounds directly into the guy's kneecaps — not just one, but both of them. A crunching sound broke out across the park as he fell on bones, cracking them further. He wailed in pain and surprisingly didn't reach for his gun.
Three of the men started charging me. Gun less, I could only rely on the fact that my fists were just as deadly as any gun could be, and I punched the first man in the throat then turned and elbowed the next. They stumbled back. Another gunshot went off. Andi was seriously picking them off like she was shooting fish in a bucket.
The three men turned their heads to glare at her. Then, rather than attacking, came at me again.
Surprised, I was knocked in the face by the first guy but sidestepped the next hit then landed a hard blow to his stomach followed by a knee to the groin. With a growl, I head-butted the next guy then punched him in the jaw; the sound of teeth breaking was my only indication that he'd be down for the count.
The final man circled me.
"Let me get him," Andi pleaded behind me.
"He's mine," I barked.
The man shrugged and held up his hands. "You should let girl do your work."
I rolled my eyes. "I'll never hear the end of it."
"Andi," the man called, "why not come with us, huh? You've done job. Time to come home."
"Job?" I repeated.
Andi came up beside me and aimed the gun for his forehead. "I've never worked for you."
"Oh?" The man chuckled and glanced at me. "He knows as well as I know… you are never out."
"Please let me pull the trigger."
The man ran at us.
I ducked then heaved my body into his, sending him backward against the park bench. Punch after punch I landed to his face, his blood mixing with the slices breaking out on my knuckles.
The sound of sirens interrupted my blatant mutilation of his body.
"Serg…" Andi kicked me. "…gotta disappear."
I backed up, chest heaving. "Right."
With one last kick to his body, I grabbed her hand and ran like hell toward our car, our very easy-to-spot car.

My Review:

It is no secret that I am the world's biggest fan of the Eagle Elite series (in my humble opinion)! I mean, Rachel made me love the mafia, and that in and of itself is huge! Elude is probably my favorite addition to the series. It shows the hard and soft side of the mafia. It shows how blood sticks together no matter what. It made me laugh and laugh and then cry and cry. And did I mention when it ended I was so sad because I could have read another 200 pages? Honestly the series can go on and on and I will read it and tout it's fabulous qualities as long as Van Dyken continues to put out quality writing that makes me FEEL. I am not a crier and this one had me in tears. Wherever this series goes, I'll follow!

Rating: cussing/sexual innuendos/open door bedroom scenes/violence

I received an ARC of this book.

The blossoming love between Sophia and Luke was conveyed well and Sophia's baggage from her divorce was the true crux of this story. Can Sophia let all of that go?
