Abby's Crossing by Darryl Harris, LDS Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

Fall 1862 --Following her husband’s tragic death, young widow Abby Butterfield Browett’s first responsibility is to her son. Her desire to provide a secure future for her child has led her to accept a proposal of marriage from Isaac, a man twice her age. In her heart, she knows that Isaac lacks the fire and zest for life that defines Abby, but her son will be cared for. Can she be happy with only that? Despite her reservations, Abby joins her fiancé on the journey to the Endowment House in Salt Lake City, unprepared for the challenges that begin soon after they embark. When their trouble turns dangerous, it is a group of rough frontiersmen that come to their aid. The incident provides Abby the excuse she needs to turn back and postpone the wedding—and in truth, she simply can’t forget the connection she felt with Scooter, the leader of their rescuers. But as hostilities arise between the local Indians and the white frontiersmen, Abby’s focus turns again to the safety of her son. When the young boy disappears following an attack, Abby disregards propriety and turns not to her fiancé for help, but to Scooter. In the face of unimaginable odds, the pair embarks on a quest to find Abby’s son, a journey that will test their courage and faith as never before . . .

My Review:

Abby's Crossing is all about a young window named Abby, her son and their journey they take to Salt Lake. This book is full of history, so if you love historical fiction that is heavy on the historical part, then you will enjoy this book. There is some action and of course the question of who Abby will choose to be with, her fiance or Scooter.  I had a harder time getting into the story myself, but to each their own.

Double Play by Ranee S. Clark, Blog Tour & Giveaway!

Book Summary:

Sophie Pope is devastated when she hears the news: her former boyfriend, college football star Anthony "Rocket" Rogers, is engaged to be married. Determined to win him back before he says I do, Sophie hatches a foolproof plan to stop the wedding. But when Rocket's best man, aspiring baseball player David Savage, thwarts her plot, she realizes the game is up. For David, though, it s just beginning . . .

David knows that Sophie is just another pretty face, and he's more than happy to save his best friend from her shallow advances. She's not his type at all, so he's baffled by his response to an awkward encounter with Donovan, another of Sophie's former flames. Despite himself, David feels driven by an inexplicable need to protect her. Pretending to be Sophie's new fiancé leads to unexpected sparks between the pair, and soon they're searching for excuses to spend time together. But when a curveball threatens to send them in opposite directions, will Sophie and David step up to the plate for the possibility of true love?

My Review:

This book was so much fun! I loved that Clark wrote about characters that were not perfect. They each struggled with some flaw or another and that endeared her characters to me and made the entire story feel real! Sophie was a force to be reckoned with and I never knew what she might say or do in any given situation which made for an unpredictable story (which I happened to love)! Add in the "Y" atmosphere, cute athletes and wedding planning and it made for one fun and fantastic read!

The Resilient One (A Billionaire Bride Pact Romance) by Cami Checketts, Book Review

The Resilient One by Cami Checketts
Alyssa Armsworth, a world-renowned photographer, has no intentions of honoring the Billionaire Bride Pact she made as a teenager to avoid getting her bra hung from the camp flagpole. Marriage is the last thing on her to-do list and when her father forces his wealthy friends on her, she runs to Maui.

She plans to lay low, take some great pictures, and eat fresh fish--until Beckham Taylor arrives. Stuck in the same hotel and spending days on the white sand with the handsome ex-NHL star wouldn't be all that bad except Alyssa's done something in the past that Beckham could never forgive. Before she can confess, her misdeeds are thrust onto the front cover of a well-known magazine. Alyssa must overcome her fears or live without Beckham.

Available now for only $2.99 - Amazon or free for Prime and KOLL members.

My Review of The Resilient One:

Wow, wow, wow! I really loved this book! Alyssa's character really resonated with me because she wasn't perfect, she was independent and she wasn't looking for a man to solve and fix all of her problems. I loved her strength despite her handicap and her determination after all she had been through with her family. Beck was amazing, handsome and just a down to earth good guy! But the woman of the hour, the one who made this book off the charts was Granny! She was a hoot! I was laughing and smiling with tears running down my cheeks she was so hilarious! Everyone needs a Granny in their life to look out for them! While Checketts had me laughing to tears at one moment, she had me feeling reflective and pensively emotional another. This book runs the gamut of emotions and that is one of the main reasons I love it so very much! If all of the Billionaire Bride Pact books are like this one, then I will be reading the entire series! Buy this book, I promise you that meeting Granny is worth it!

Broken Things to Mend by Karey White

amazon get it
Celia is in desperate need of a change--a change of scenery, a change of pace, and a complete redo of all relationships. Not knowing what else to do, she opens a map, closes her eyes, and lets fate decide her future. Then she packs her meager belongings and buys a one-way ticket to a little town on the fringes of Oregon's Deschutes National Forest called Sisters. She's wanted a family for years. Will she find one in Sisters? What Celia doesn't plan to find is a strange Chinese woman whose meddling ways keep throwing her in the path of a handsome, but reserved, forest ranger. But no matter how kind or dependable Silas seems to be, there are some things in Celia's past that neither of them can escape, and this time, the damage might be too much to mend.

 My Review:

This story is an emotional journey that will tug on your heart strings and keep you reading until the very last word. Pearl was this quirky and fun character, I could picture this older Chinese woman in my mind insisting someone drive her somewhere. And then I was so intrigued with Celia riding on the bus and I wanted to know why and what she was running away from! When I learned her story, my heart broke for her. I wanted to pick up the pieces and help her move on myself.  And then there was Silas with his stutter and his sweet personality, where did he fit into all of this? I had so many questions and I wanted to know how everything would tie together. This story has stayed with me all day since I finished reading it and I love this new direction that White has taken with her writing! It is still clean, still sweet, yet it addresses hard realities and tough real life situations. A journey you will be glad you went on, Broken Things to Mend is one book you don't want to miss!

A Spy's Devotion by Melanie Dickerson

 Book Summary:

In England’s Regency era, manners and elegance reign in public life—but behind closed doors treason and tawdriness thrive. Nicholas Langdon is no stranger to reserved civility or bloody barbarity. After suffering a battlefield injury, the wealthy, well-connected British officer returns home to heal—and to fulfill a dying soldier’s last wish by delivering his coded diary.

At the home of the Wilherns, one of England’s most powerful families, Langdon attends a lavish ball where he meets their beautiful and intelligent ward, Julia Grey. Determined to maintain propriety, he keeps his distance—until the diary is stolen and all clues lead to Julia’s guardian. As Langdon traces an evil plot that could be the nation’s undoing, he grows ever more intrigued by the lovely young woman. And when Julia realizes that England—and the man she is falling in love with—need her help, she finds herself caught in the fray. Will the two succumb to their attraction while fighting to save their country?

My Review:

Dickerson has long been my favorite author of fairy tales and now she has ventured into the regency genre! *squeal* I couldn't be more excited about how wonderful this book is! Julia is what makes this book! Her story speaks loudly to the reader and this incredible tale takes twists and turns that kept me up reading until my eyes were burning for rest. But I had to finish her story! I had to know if she would ever be able to be with the man she loved! She was so good and kind, she deserved a happy ending, right? Honestly, this story just grabbed me and held me captive through the entirety! I know Dickerson has not done it before, but I would LOVE it if she wrote the same story from Nicholas' perspective! I was dying to know all of his thoughts throughout the book!  Dickerson tells Julia's story masterfully and I am convinced there is nothing she writes that I will not love! A true love story to its core, A Spy's Devotion will have you asking, what would you do for the one you love? I received an ecopy via Netgalley.

Three Little Words by Hansen, Grant & Mace, Blog Tour & Giveaway!!!

 Book Summary:

The road to true love never did run smooth, but a few bumps along the way make it all the more thrilling. This timeless truth is showcased in Three Little Words, a charming compilation of short stories written by a trio of popular LDS romance novelists. Readers are invited to follow the journeys of three young women as they encounter love where they least expect it.
  • Rescuing Bailey by Jennie Hansen For as long as she can remember, Bailey has loved the boy next door. But despite her feelings, his schedule and his little brother keep getting in the way. Will her childhood crush finally blossom into something real, or will she discover that true love is waiting just around the corner?
  • Three Little Words by K.C. Grant The bet is simple: Elizabeth, a speech therapist, has three days to teach a country bumpkin with a drawl as thick as molasses how to speak like a gentleman. But as she gets to know her charming student, it soon becomes clear that there may be more to him than meets the ear.
  • A Crying Shame by Aubrey Mace Cassidy is in love with the idea of love, though after her most recent breakup, the possibility of finding Mr. Right seems hopeless. But when she meets a handsome classmate in her painting class, she may end up learning more about chemistry than about art

My Review:

I absolutely loved this collection of three short love stories! It was a great way to read a book when I didn't have a ton of time on my hands. Each story can be read pretty quickly yet still has the feeling of a full length novel!  Hansen's story was emotional and I was surprised at the depth of feelings portrayed for a book less than full length. It was a great story! Grant's story was hilarious and reminded me a little bit of a favorite movie of mine, it was great! Now Mace's story was my all time favorite out of the collection! Cass's character was so real, so raw, so jump-off-the-page that I was just sucked into her story and couldn't put it down! All of the stories were great! A bonus for me is that I found two new authors from this collection! One I already have loved but now I have two more to add to my list! If you love sweet contemporary romances and you want a quick pick me up, then you will love the Three Little Words collection!

Heart of the Ocean by Heather B. Moore, Book Review

Book Summary:

 A dark secret . . . a grieving ghost . . . a handsome stranger . . . What more could Eliza Robinson want?

Except for maybe her life.

In Heather B. Moore’s enthralling 1840’s historical romance, Heart of the Ocean, Eliza Robinson has turned down the very pretentious Mr. Thomas Beesley’s marriage proposal. As a business partner of Eliza’s father, Thomas quickly discredits the family and brings disgrace to the Robinson name.

While her father scrambles to restore his good name in New York City, Eliza flees to the remote Puritan town of Maybrook to stay with her Aunt Maeve. Maybrook is the last existing Puritan town, having survived centuries of outside influence. Although relieved to be away from all- things-male and unforgiving gossip columns, odd things start to happen to Eliza, and she is plagued by a ghostly voice. Her aunt’s explanation? That Eliza is being haunted by a woman who died of a broken heart twenty years ago.

After Aunt Maeve is tragically killed, Eliza's life is put in danger as she tries to uncover the mystery of her aunt's death. She encounters Jonathan Porter in Maybrook, whose presence in the town seems suspicious, yet she finds herself drawn to him. When she discovers that Jonathan’s dark secrets may be the link between the dead woman who haunts her and her aunt’s murderer, Eliza realizes that Jonathan is the one man she should never trust.

 My Review:

Well this book started off a little bit slow for me, but the foundation was being laid and once all the pieces came together I really enjoyed the book! There were so many layers and pieces that needed to be put together and I found myself anxious to learn why Helena was haunting Eliza. I became frustrated with Jon when he couldn't realize and accept his true feelings and I really wanted to reach through the pages and punch Thomas Beesley straight in his nose! This is a beautifully written and poignant journey that I am glad I was a part of! Very different than what I am used to from Moore, but quite a pleasant surprise!
