Ember (Eagle Elite Volume 5) by Rachel Van Dyken, Book Review

Image
Book Summary: I am a Killer. A Rapist. A Monster. I know only pain and survival.  That is until the Cappo's sister walked into my life.  And changed everything. She's a light who makes my darkness darker, her smile makes my heart turn to ice, and I can't escape the fear her seductive looks instill--knowing it's only a matter of time before I fail--again, and take her for myself. This is the story of my redemption.  But it's not pretty...I died, and now I'm alive, but not living, breathing but not surviving. I am Phoenix De Lange, son to a murdered mob boss, estranged brother, horrible friend, monster in the making, newest leader to one of the most powerful families in the Cosa Nostra. And I will have my vengeance. Or die trying. I am Phoenix De Lange.  Death is all I know.  Until she offers me a piece of life--I can't resist taking. My Review: I don't know how Van Dyken is able to write story after amazing story! I wasn't sure how I would

Love is a Choice by Lynn G. Robbins, LDS Blog Tour

Image
Book Summary: We all know that actions speak louder than words. We may say “I love you,” but do our actions back up that claim? Elder Lynn G. Robbins teaches us that love is more than a feeling — it is a commitment, a promise to be responsible, respectful, and responsive to the needs and experiences of other. And like any other action we undertake, perfecting the act of love requires a lifetime of practice and good choices. As Elder Robbins teaches, the daily choices we make in our marriages and families are what shape lasting love. He helps us to recognize the role that our agency plays in developing forgiveness, patience, kindness, responsibility, and other virtuous traits. We come to see that as we actively try to  do  things differently, Christ helps us to  be  the people He wants us to be — people like Him. Whether you're engaged to be married, a newlywed, or someone with decades of marriage under your belt, this counsel from an inspired leader will help you develop

Date and Dash (Better Date than Never #10) by Susan Hatler, Book Review

Image
Book Summary: Mary Ann Nielsen lives by her one-strike-and-you’re-out dating policy, but she’s always open to meeting the right guy. When she accidentally rear-ends handsome Trevor Brooks on her way to a charity auction to buy back her beloved grandmother’s long lost bracelet, she figures this unconventional meeting could at least turn into a hot date. Wrong. Trevor is annoyingly responsible and more concerned with insurance reports than responding to her flirting so he earns three strikes right off the bat.  Flustered from the car accident and being rejected by gorgeous Trevor, Mary Ann mistakenly bids on the wrong auction item and loses out on reclaiming her grandmother’s bracelet. Instead, she wins four dates on a reality TV show with none other than stuffy Trevor Brooks. Now she’s broke and the only way to get the money to buy back her special family heirloom is to win the grand prize money from the televised couples competition by convincing the audience that she and Tre

The Blueprint of Christ's Church by Tad R. Callister, Blog Tour

Book Summary: A strong testimony requires a solid foundation. This is especially true in our day, when we have so much access to information from so many sources, both reliable and spurious. With the numerous voices competing for our attention, how can we avoid being "carried about with every wind of doctrine" (Eph. 4:14)? In  The Blueprint's of Christ's Church,  Tad R. Callister provides a thoughtful, systematic explanation of foundational gospel principles, tying them to Jesus Christ and demonstrating how the "blueprint" of the original Church of Jesus Christ matches the structure of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Seasoned Church members and new converts alike will benefit from this "refresher course." The carefully reasoned, scripture-based summaries of a variety of basic principles offer a great resource for parents, missionaries, and Church leaders and teachers. My Review: The premise of this book is to put t

Men of Covenant by Robert L. Millet, Blog Tour

Image
Book Summary: We are a covenant-making people, but do we fully appreciate the power of the promises contained in just the twelve short verses of the oath and covenant of the priesthood? In  Men of Covenant,  companion to  Men of Valor  and  Men of Influence,  author Robert L. Millet invites us to explore such questions as these: What are the terms and conditions of the oath and covenant of the priesthood? What would my life be like if I were more focused on my covenants? How could my more covenant-focused life affect my family and others for whom I have responsibility? As we consider the promises Melchizedek Priesthood holders make to God and His irrevocable promise to faithful priesthood holders, we discover the glorious blessings He makes available to us all, both men and women. My Review: Robert L. Millet has become a favorite LDS writer of mine. I love that he uses scripture and quotes from the prophets to explain the principles he is discussing. In eve

From the beginning, the book just grabbed my attention and had me intrigued! I wanted, no I NEEDED to know why these two girls were dressing up as boys! Every time I thought I had this story figured out, it would take a different twist or turn! The characters were wonderful, and I enjoyed getting to know them and their strengths and weaknesses. You will be rooting for them to let go of their insecurities and fears. Add the adventure of min
