My Review:

This is unusual Christmas story about an insurance adjuster and a girl who is an editor and works in her uncle's bookstore. So if you are looking for a story that isn't run of the mill, this is definitely the book for you. While it is short, it definitely packs a punch! Night At the Opera by Stacie Henrie, Blog Tour & Giveaway!!!

Summary:

From USA Today bestselling author Stacy Henrie, comes NIGHT AT THE OPERA, an American Heiress Novel.

NIGHT AT THE OPERA - An American Heiress Book 1 (1908)

When American heiress Gwen Barton aids an injured gentleman in an opera box in London, she shares a kiss with the stranger that changes her life. More determined than ever to be herself, in spite of the limp she’s sustained since childhood, she will marry for love and not a title. She also resolves to learn the identity of the man she helped—and kissed. Surely he can’t be the irritating Avery Winfield, though. But as circumstances continue to throw Gwen and Avery together, she begins to wonder if there is more to this man than she first thought.

While most of London only knows him as the nephew of a duke, Avery Winfield is actually working for the Secret Service Bureau to ferret out German spies from among the ton. It’s a profession that gives him purpose and a reason to remain a bachelor. But the more he interacts with Gwen Barton, an heiress from America, the more he begins to question his plans and neglected faith. Then he learns Gwen is the young lady from the opera box who helped him. Now his most important mission may have nothing to do with saving Britain from danger and everything to do with risking his heart for the woman he met that night at the opera.

My Review:

Henrie made me fall in love with the opera, spies, and true love! I loved how she set her book during a time period where American Heiresses were traveling to England to find husbands and gain titles that their wealth could not gain in America. It made the story so much more interesting than the usual regency novels! I loved Gwen so much! She was strong willed, with a huge and giving heart, and she was determined to take care of herself. And then there was Avery! He was blinded to the fact that he could ever have love in his life because his career as a spy would put a loved one in jeopardy. When these two cross paths at the opera is it happenstance or fate? Henrie kept me engaged, interested, and frankly on my toes trying to solve the mystery of who the spy was! All of this while Gwen and Avery are trying to sort out if there is anything to their relationship other than friendship. This book was awesome and I enjoyed every minute spent reading it!

The Lady of Astoria Abbey by Anita Stansfield, Blog Tour & Giveaway!

Book Summary:

Bess leads a quiet life, intent on easing the burdens of her widowed father. She acts as maid, cook, and assistant in his medical practice—but she is wearied by the thankless work and her father’s lack of kindness. And then a miracle happens. Lady Agatha Buxton of Astoria Abbey is seeking a physician for her ailing son, Hugh, and, sensing that Bess is trapped in her situation, offers the young woman a position as nurse. Despite Bess’s father’s objections, she accepts—and her life is forever changed. Bess and Hugh enjoy an immediate bond of friendship, which quickly blossoms into love. Despite his dire prognosis, the couple makes the bittersweet decision to wed, embracing what little time they have. Their tender union ushers in a season of both joy and heartbreak, and Bess discovers greater meaning in life than she’d ever imagined. As she’s confronted with the sorrow of living without Hugh, Bess finds herself at a crossroads—will she have the courage to trust her heart and allow herself to love again?

My Review:

Stansfield seems to have a gift for writing emotionally charged stories! Bess has been so suppressed and overworked since her mother died, she seems to be dying inside. Her father doesn't appreciate her and it seems as though he doesn't even love her.

Then enters the story the Lady of Astoria Abbey and she is so caring, compassionate, and kind. Just what Bess needs since her mother passed away. She sees a need in Bess and offers her a job to care for her dying son Hugh.

Emotionally beautiful, Bess and Hugh's story will bring on the tears and with it pain and joy.

Proximity by Traci Hunter Abramson, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

Tia Parker always seems to fall for the wrong guy. But when she meets Evan Spence at a friend's wedding, it seems like she's finally found Mr. Right. Their spark is undeniable, but reality may extinguish any hope for a future: they are separated by thousands of miles. As the couple struggles with the pitfalls of pursuing romance long-distance, Tia is taken off guard by a new arrival in town. Colby Farren is handsome and charming and has made it clear he's interested in Tia. Yet despite his obvious infatuation, Tia can't seem to get Evan out of her mind. Caught between the attention of two very different men, her complicated love life is soon eclipsed by much more sobering concerns. A break-in at her apartment is just the first in a series of bizarre events, each bringing her one step closer to a dangerous liaison. And knowing who to trust could be a matter of life and death.

My Review:

Abramson delivers a solid suspense page turner that brought me into Tia Parker's world and wouldn't let me out until the very end! I was consumed with her story, with Evan and their connection and the bond they built through long-distance dating. I wanted everything to work out for them! And Colby, he was constantly there and wanting Tia and she was so nice to him but always telling him no. This was one of those things where you are trying to decide if it is who you think it is or is it someone else you are completely missing! The suspense had me literally reading as quickly as possible trying to find out how the story was going to end. A true page-turner, Proximity will leave you breathless and unsettled when all is said and done!
