Christmas at Rakehall Manor by Elizabeth Hanbury, Book Review
Blurb:
A house of sin ...shrouded in mystery and steeped in ever more scandalous gossip, where debauchery and wild parties are rumoured to take place.
A notorious rake ...whose wicked reputation sends neighbours swooning over their tea cups. Can he really be as bad as he seems?
A lonely paid companion ...whose prim and practical exterior hides a lush sensuality waiting to be awakened.
Prudence Eylesbarrow is resigned to dreary spinsterhood and to never finding love. All she wants is one Christmas where she’s not at someone’s beck and call.
But when Prue finds herself snow-bound at the infamous Rakehell Manor, her curiosity with Hugo, Marquess of Warwick – mysterious, handsome, world-weary, cynical – tempts her to reveal passions she never knew she possessed. Even so Prue is under no illusions. It was fool’s game to think a penniless nobody could tame the master of Rakehell, for that way lay heartache and social ruin.
Or has the time come for the power of passion, the promise of love and the magic of Christmas to unite two people from very different worlds?
My Review:
I really enjoy Christmas novels and regency novels as well, so this combination of the two was wonderful for me! I have to admit, I was a little wary when I started reading about the room that Prue was staying in! I was worried this may turn into some type of steamy romance novel that I prefer not to read, However to my utter relief, that was not the case! (The romance level is fairly clean with only a few references to intimacy.) The mystery behind the manor and its master kept my interest until the very end. Prue's character was a lot of fun and Hugo turned out to be different that I expected! If you like to read regency romances that have surprises and twists, then this is the book for you!

Good Music Brighter Children by Sharlene Habermeyer Blog Tour & Spotlight
Check out this great book by the amazing Sharlene Habermeyer! I have met Sharlene personally and she is a kind and intelligent woman! Anyone can benefit from reading her book!
Good Music Brighter Children
Good Music Brighter Children is written for parents, educators or anyone who wants to build a bigger, better brain using music. Scientific studies indicate that children introduced to classical music at a young age read earlier and perform better on achievement tests. Adults can also revive tired brain cells using music. This book gives you a step-by-step program that any parent or individual can follow. You’ll discover how introducing your children to good music can accelerate language development, improve math and science skills, enhance physical coordination, strengthen memory and reading retention, and benefit children with learning disabilities. Discover how to choose an instrument and music teacher for your child; how to get your kids to practice and how character traits such as confidence, responsibility, creativity and teamwork are taught when learning a musical instrument. Learn how to introduce your child to the music community and how to appreciate all kinds of music. Last, if you want to advocate for music in your schools, this book gives the ammunition and data to do so. Also includes a 35-page Resource Section on the best music, books, and DVDs for kids.

Author Sharlene Habermeyer:
Sharlene Habermeyer, MA has spent over twenty-five years researching the effects of music in the brain development of children. In 1999, she started the Palos Verdes Regional Orchestra (now the Palos Verdes Regional Symphony Orchestra). It currently boasts over one-hundred members. Sharlene’s initial inspiration for Good Music Brighter Children came from the extensive work she did with her severely learning disabled son, and finding that music was his strongest catalyst for learning she began passionately researching the effects music had on the developing and mature brain. A college instructor, a popular speaker, and a consultant, she is the mother of five boys and lives with her husband in Torrance, California. She has spoken at parent conferences around the United States including the Parents as Teachers Conference (PAT) and the Crucial Years Conference in Missouri. Mother/Lawyer/Ballet Teacher: Shauna Bird Dunn “Carefully researched and highly readable, Good Music, Brighter Children is written for musicians and non musicians alike. It is filled with wisdom, insight and helpful tips to bring music into the home for all ages and stages of childhood.” -Shauna Bird Dunn, JD, MPA Utah Young Mother of the Year, 2010
Excerpt from the book:
**Chapter Eight: Music’s Impact on Cognitive Delays and Physical Disabilities (pages 205-208)
For the past thirty years, I have had a particular interest in music’s impact on children with learning disabilities because of personal experience. In 1982 our third son, Brandon, was born. It was a traumatic birth. Born six weeks early, Brandon was too high in the birth canal, and as a result he was literally dragged out by forceps. He was an unhappy baby and cried all the time. He had constant ear infections that included a build-up of fluid in his ears, and despite being on daily doses of low-grade antibiotics, the infections persisted. Over time, this constant fluid buildup affected his hearing at a critical time in his development and caused him to experience sounds and language as if he was in a vacuum. I was reading to him daily, playing music for him, and taking him to “mommy and me” classes, yet his language and communication skills remained poor. After having him tested by a professional, we determined Brandon needed speech and language intervention. I naively thought once his language problem was fixed, everything would be fine. I was wrong—this was just the beginning.
When Brandon was six, his kindergarten teacher expressed concerned about his ability to learn. He was not able to do the classroom work and seemed frustrated and distant. We had him tested both at our public school and privately by a child psychologist. The results were grim. Brandon was diagnosed with auditory processing, visual motor, visual perception, sensory motor, and attention deficit disorder. The difference between his oral IQ and written IQ was thirty-eight points, indicating severe learning disabilities.
This team of experts told us that school would be very difficult for him. We were told that he may not graduate from high school, that college was out of the question, and that a trade school would be more appropriate. They said Brandon was “high risk,” meaning that as he got older, he could be a candidate for dropping out of school, experimenting with drugs, or worse. Why? Because kids need a measure of academic success. He needed to experience some kind of school success to increase his confidence level. But how do you help a child achieve academic success when he can’t read, write or spell? When he does not understand even the simplest of math concepts? When he has difficulty paying attention and following directions, and sports confuse and frustrate him?
It was a daunting challenge, and in the beginning I was overwhelmed. I did not know the first thing about learning disabilities, but I was determined to find out and to help him because I wanted Brandon to love learning—not just for success in school, but for a rich and meaningful life….

An Event to Remember or Forget by Melissa Baldwin Blog Tour & Review

An Event to Remember... or Forget
Sienna Harris is a girl with a plan. Her days of slaving away at Carrie’s Classic Events and More are numbered as she is on the brink of launching her own event planning company. Her relationship with Luke Price is headed in the right direction and they are approaching their one-year mark. The future is looking bright and she knows that life could not get any better . . . That is until her perfectly planned world is thrown upside down by the unexpected arrival of someone from Luke’s past. She receives the shock of her life on the night of the biggest event of her career. Sienna will now have to pull it all together without a list or a plan. The question is, can she do it?
My Review:
So An Event to Remember or Forget is a good story and I liked the gist of it. Sienna was a fun character and her friends and co-workers had equally great personalities! However, my biggest problem with the book is how it reads. While I enjoy reading in the present tense I felt like the entire story was being told to me. It didn't flow like it should and some sentences were very short and should have been combined with the next sentence. This lack of flow and details left me bothered. I am usually an easy to please reader, but having the feeling like I was there watching the entire story unfold was missing completely for me and I personally felt a huge disconnect from the story. Baldwin has a really good story here, it just needs more sensory details and editing in my opinion.
EXCERPT:
I made it to spinning class two mornings in a row; I’m on fire. It’s 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Craig, Nicole, and I are waiting at Bonjour for Carrie to arrive. “Let’s take bets on if she actually comes, twenty bucks she’s a no-show,” Craig demands. Bonjouris the most adorable little breakfast café, and the food is amazing. We sit at the same table, and the staff always takes very good care of us. “Sienna?” says a voice behind me. Oh no, it’s Luke. This is pretty awkward considering we haven’t spoken since I let him have it the other night. I don’t count the few “I’m really sorry” and “I love you” texts he sent. He is with a few co-workers that I recognize but don’t really know well. “Are you having a work meeting?” he asks. He waves to Craig and Nicole. They both say hi, looking very curious about our obvious awkwardness. I’m sure they will force me to explain it before I leave this meeting. “Yeah, we are just waiting on Carrie as usual.” I roll my eyes. “Ah yes, the infamous Carrie. I still can’t believe that I’ve never met her, only heard the stories,” he says, laughing. “Well, considering she’s hardly ever in town, that’s not surprising,” I reply. Coincidentally, at that very moment, the front door flies open and there she is in head to toe designer couture. “So sorry I’m late, had to take a call. I need a double espresso,” she calls as she saunters over to our table. Luke and I are still engaged in our awkward conversation. Carrie approaches and pulls off her Prada sunglasses staring directly at Luke. Excerpt #2- “Sienna, I want you to meet some of my co-workers. Ladies, this is Sienna Harris. She is the genius behind all of this,” says Abby, coming toward me. “Do you have any business cards?” asks the first woman. “Yes, I do! I am still with Carrie’s Classic Events and More, but I am launching my own company very soon,” I say as I hand out a few cards. All of a sudden, I feel like I am being chased by the paparazzi. They all start talking at once; questions are flying at me from every direction. “You work for the Carrie Anderstone?” “Is it true what they say about her?” “Does she still run that company?” “I have heard some crazy stories.” “I heard she had an affair with the mayor at his son’s graduation party. Were you at that event? Did you see anything?” “How much plastic surgery has she really had?” “Do you get along with her?” “Where does she travel to so much?” I’m not sure how to answer their questions. This is not the first time I’ve been asked all about the sordid details of Carrie’s life. I quickly decide to handle it in the best way I know how . . . I lie and change the subject. Excerpt#3- The waiting area is full of big, cushy love seats, and the décor is very Mediterranean with rich shades of gold, red, and brown. It is so warm and inviting. I have to text Madison, so I tell Luke I need to use the restroom and check my makeup. I’m sure he knows I’m lying, but who cares. There is a very sweet attendant handing out hot hand towels in the restroom, which is probably the size of my apartment. It has so many products that it could very well be a beauty supply store. I pull out my phone to text Madison. BEST PLACE EVER! I put my phone back in my Tory Burch clutch purse (a small splurge, but I bought it at the outlets), check my makeup and hair, and head back to Luke. As I am walking back to him, I notice that he is talking to someone. His body language says it all; he does not like this person. I walk up and stand beside him to see who this person is. I think my heart stops beating for a minute. I look up to see the most handsome man I have ever seen in my life; he smiles at me and his eyes actually sparkle. I am NOT KIDDING! I feel like I have landed in a Disney movie. “Luke, who is this beautiful woman standing here?” he asks with the hottest Australian accent I have ever heard. “Good for you, mate!” “Hello, I am Ace Eckelund. I am Luke’s mate from our summer of soccer in Europe. I am sure he has mentioned me?” How do I answer this? “Um, yes he has briefly. I am Sienna, Luke’s . . . girlfriend.” Why did I just hesitate? I am on an anniversary date with my boyfriend. “It’s nice to meet you.” I reach out to shake his hand, and I swear my stomach does a backflip. Excerpt #4- I hear my phone ringing from somewhere on my desk. I shift some stuff to find it and see it’s Carrie calling me. “Hello?” “Sienna, I sent over the remainder of the paperwork I needed to sign. I will be away for the next few days and unreachable. I also wanted to tell you that I am very impressed with how well you have handled this event.” I think I’m hallucinating again. First of all, she seems a teeny, tiny bit interested in this event, and secondly, she gave me a compliment. I now have no doubts that she is up to something. I’m about to say something but she continues. “I also saw that Mr. Eckelund and his firm are listed as a sponsor. No doubt you had something to do with that. I’m sure you were extremely persuasive in securing that, and I have to say WELL DONE. I suppose I have taught you a lot.” Wait, what? Is she implying what I think she is? “Carrie, I can assure you that there was no persuasion involved in that sponsorship. I had simply mentioned the event in passing, and he scheduled a meeting with Mr. Canton. To be honest, I am offended you even suggested that.” “Come now, love, don’t be coy. It was just an observation from the other evening. That is a very good relationship to build, professionally of course. I’m very aware of who he is and his connections. Surely, we can add him to our clientele. Next time you see him you should mention that. Will you be seeing him again soon?”

Up to Date (Better Date than Never #8) by Susan Hatler, Book Review
Blurb:
(Better Date than Never series, Book #8)
Ginger knows that practical choices guarantee a stable life, which is why she chose a career as an office manager. Her job provides a steady paycheck, but it also has her snoozing at her desk. She wishes she'd pursued her passion for interior decorating rather than business.
She’s also trying to forget Greg Shaffer—the gorgeous emergency room doctor she met at a dance club last month. Her dad was an emergency room doctor and the stress of the job turned him into a raging alcoholic, which didn’t exactly create happy childhood memories.
Ginger believes donating her decorating services to her friend’s charity auction is the perfect fix for both her problems. She'll get a break from the daily grind, get her creative juices flowing, and stay so busy she'll finally forget about Greg.
But then Greg ends up buying the condo right above her. Even worse, he deliberately wins the bid on her auction item. Greg seems determined to prove to Ginger that practicality has nothing on passion. And as Ginger brings beauty into Greg's world, how can she possibly resist the beauty he brings to hers?

My Review:
Susan Hatler strikes again! Every time one of her books shows up on my kindle I just squeal inside! I know it will be a story that I will love and won't be able to put down! She is my go-to for a fast-read full of romance, flirting and kissing! True to Hatler form, Ginger has an amazing set of friends who truly care! I laughed at the Gilligan Island references and sighed at the cute kittens! If you want a read you won't be able to put down full of friendship, romance and feeling, then this is the series for you! Start at book one and don't stop until you are done! Hopefully Ginger's story is not the end and there will be a book nine in the future!

To Tempt an Earl by Kristin Vayden, Blog Tour & Book Review

Title: To Tempt an Earl (Greenford Waters Legacy, #2) Author: Kristin Vayden Genre: Regency Series: Greenford Waters Legacy Publisher: Blue Tulip Publishing

Tempting an Earl is not for the faint of heart. Thank heavens Bethanny is anything but faint! Now, honest, perhaps--too honest, but never faint! After all, why flirt when you can tempt? And why the devil would a woman choose to swoon, when she could be kissed? Of course, she'd never try something so...honest, on anyone but Lord Graham. He's the only one she wants. He alone has her heart. He hadn’t a clue. So it was only polite that she tell him. Now, if only her blasted guardian, the Duke of Clairmont, would see Graham as more of a suitor than his old friend. Because Graham is anything but old and most certainly not just a friend, not after that kiss, or that touch. Though, if she were to lay all her cards on the table--which any gently bred woman ought--he wasn't completely aware it was her mouth, her lips, or her touch. But that's beside the point now, isn't it?
My Review:
Every time I pick up a book by Kristin Vayden I am never disappointed! In fact, I find myself turning to her books when I need a read I know I will love and not be able to put down! I loved To Tempt an Earl! Bethanny's personality was so genuine and authentic, I appreciated that in a regency novel where most characters mask their true selves! Bethanny was the exact opposite! True to herself, she wasn't just another pretty face. She was bold, intelligent and full of good humor! She knew whom she wanted and wasn't afraid to let him know. Vayden tells a captivating regency tale full of love, laughter and deceit...all for good reason! If you are a fan of regency novels, you do NOT want to miss this one!

Elicit (Eagle Elite #4) by Rachel Van Dyken, Book Review
Blurb:
Cursed, numb, rejected, scorned, wicked, sinister, dark, twisted...my name is Tex Campisi and this is my legacy. I killed my father in cold blood and lost my soul right along with him.
I crave war more than peace, and I'm about to take my place in history as the youngest Capo dei Capi in the Cosa Nostra...that is until someone stops me, saves me from myself.
But the only person able to do that...is my best friends sister, Mo Abandanato, and she just ripped my heart out and asked me to hold it in my hands while she put bullets through it.
Im cursed so I did it.
I'm numb so I held it.
I'm wicked so I liked it.
I used the pain Mo caused as a catalyst to turn into my biggest nightmare--the five families greatest enemy. It's my turn to take a stand, knowing full well I'm going to lose my mind to the madness that is the American Mafia. I've always been told Blood is thicker than life. I wish I would have listened. Because regardless of who you love? You will betray. You will kill.
Blood Always Wins.
The only way out is death...yours.
Welcome to the Dark Side of the Family.
My Review:
True to Van Dyken form, I couldn't put this book down until I was finished! I have loved this series from book one and I am still loving it at the end of book four! I cannot reveal much about the book because it will spoil it, just know that there are plenty of twists and turns to make it interesting! I found myself trying to figure out what was really going on; Van Dyken has a way of making the reader guess and second guess at what is really happening, and I enjoyed the mystery. There is plenty of action, emotional turmoil and romance! This series is a mafia must read!!! As usual, I am looking forward to the next book!
Rating: Cussing, sexual innuendos and for this reader who likes her romances clean, there were about three scenes that I had to skip altogether

The Secret Bliss of Calliope Ipswich by Marica Lynn McClure Blog Tour & Spotlight

The Secret Bliss of Calliope Ipswich by Marcia Lynn McClure
“Oh! Do link arms with me, Calliope,” Blanche whispered, her brown eyes widening with apprehension. She took Calliope’s arm, tightly linking it with her own. “The old Mulholland house still gives me the willies every time I walk past it. I hate to think on what might have gone on inside. It’s truly terrifyin’!” “Oh, don’t be silly, Blanche,” Calliope said, feigning calm. “Poor Prudence’s lunacy…it’s sad. And besides, her fiendish acts were not committed inside the house. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s just…it’s just a sad, empty building.” Calliope Ipswich felt the hypocrite, however, as an uncomfortable shiver of residual dread and unease shuttered down her spine, More than six months had passed since the All Hollow’s Eve when the dangerous state of Prudence Mulholland’s fracturing mind had been revealed to the townsfolk of Meadowlark Lake. And now, each time Calliope thought of poor Prudence and her family, not only did her heart ache for their family’s unhappy lot but a chill of lingering horror rippled through her being. In truth, at times Calliope wondered if it had all been simply a bad dream—a nightmare. But it hadn’t. It really had happened—all of it.

Heaven's Hero: A True Story by Abbie Guerrero, Spotlight
Blurb from Author:
This book is dedicated to my Dad who passed away in the 2003 LifeFlight Helicopter Accident here in Utah.
“In the initial impact, most of the helicopter’s instruments and weight, which had been overhead, came loose and shifted to the right side of the helicopter. When the Augusta K2 hit the ground the second time, everything on that side- the transmission, the two jet engines and the main rotor head- shifted away from me and over to where Craig and Mario were seated. Everything on the right side of the helicopter was crushed from the impact and weight. Even though I was badly hurt and couldn’t move, I had missed being crushed.”

Flossophy of Grace by Ruth J. Hartman, Book Review
Blurb:
What happens when a dental hygienist falls in love with her patient? That's what Grace Hart finds out when she meets Bruce Gardener. The problem? Grace's boss has a strict policy against relatioships with patients. Can Bruce and Grace find a way to be together, without her boss finding out?
My Review:
I am used to reading books by Hartman that are historical so I wasn't sure how this contemporary would be. Well I loved it! It was fun and light-hearted, it made me laugh! I became a fan of the main character Grace and wanted to punch her boss in the nose for her! Seriously it brought out some strong emotions in me and I felt like yelling at Grace to just quit her job because her boss was such a jerk! Bruce was a great hero; tall, dark and handsome with a quirky sense of humor! I loved how Grace and Bruce could be themselves together; just fun and their own kind of weird. I really loved that about their relationship! If you want a good laugh and a light-hearted escape from reality, then Flossophy of Grace is just the book for you!

She loves to make soap, sauerkraut, sourdough bread and gluten free muffins. Life is full of blessings and she praises God for the blessed and abundant life He's given her.
