Radiance: Love after Death by Debra Jayne East

About the book: When Marena Jacobs drove home on a cold, rainy night to Eden, North Carolina, she never expected to meet the man of her dreams, after she died. Surviving a near fatal car accident, she slowly recovers from a traumatic brain injury and crushed leg. In the months ahead, she remains haunted by what happened in the seconds of time she passed from in to death. Was it real or imagined? Before the accident, her life had almost come to a tragic end. Contemplating suicide, she found a crooked heart-shaped stone in the grass that saved her. She realized that it carried a message. "Even though your heart is broken, it's still a heart, you can still love." A stranger was about to prove to her how true that was! My Review: Radiance: Love after Death is not your typical love story. Marena Jacobs has a broken heart and spirit after a divorce from her husband who left her for another woman. One night driving home from work she is in a terrible

Traitor's Daughter by Lily Dewaruile

About the book: Blaentywi, Summer, AD927, in the reign of Hywel Dda Always despised and humiliated by her relatives, Heledd Ieuan expects worse now that she has come of age. Since her father’s betrayal of his brother, she has been a prisoner of war, held hostage to ensure the good behavior of the survivors among his friends. She has recurring visions of the slaughter of her family, but except the menacing dream of a warrior, no memories remain of her life before her endless labor as a bond servant. Heledd’s skill in the diary has kept her from a life in the warriors’ barracks. Bruises, blisters and aching muscles are small prices to pay to avoid the nightmare of life as a warrior’s whore.  My Review: This book is very different from most novels I have read. The story is not your typical happily ever after romance. Heledd faces challenges, many which are difficult to read about. She is called horrible names

About the book: To be normal, sixteen-year-old Julia Parker would shed her empathic gift in a second. Life has been difficult since her mother's mysterious disappearance ten years earlier - an event she witnessed, but can't remember. Julia's situation becomes more complicated after a near death experience from a blood thirsty stalker. As high school students go missing it is clear there is a connection to her own experience--past and present. Someone has to stop the madness and a chance encounter with a creepy psychic foretells that only Julia is the key to stopping the madness, but it may require the life of the one she loves. My Review:  I downloaded this book from amazon because it was on the top 100 free list. I actually downloaded it because of the cover and I had no clue what the book was even about. I started reading it and was not sure at first, where this story would go. But then it drew me in and I found myself caught up in this story of Jul

About the book: "High school junior, Kylie Bates, can suddenly read minds. When she touches people’s hands, she’s able to see their deepest thoughts. As if that’s not freaky enough, her dad sends her to help hottie detective, Sam Williams, track down a missing girl. Way too much pressure, especially for a girl who can’t watch Scream without getting nightmares. Then, finding the missing girl leads to much more than Kylie’s prepared for. Like discovering that her dad has been lying to her. That she has a family she never knew about. That the girls have powers similar to hers. Oh yeah, and that someone is out to get her. When the detective’s teenage wanna-be-cop cousin, Trip Williams, approaches Kylie at school insisting she help him solve the case, she discovers Trip might be the only one she can trust, and the only one to help her unravel the secrets behind her mysterious gift. " I could not put this book down! It was amazing, fast-paced and action-pa

Operation Christmas Hearts by Kay Springsteen

Excerpt from the book: Ashley Torrington never cared much about Christmas before. But this year she’s having a particularly blue holiday because Marine Special Operations Team member, Nick Turner got under her skin just before he was deployed to Afghanistan. With her neighbors’ precocious daughter Bella volunteering Ashley for a special project at school, and a mysterious white-haired stranger named Estelle in town buying gifts from Ashley’s shop, not to mention the odd assortment of presents Ashley’s been receiving from an anonymous source, she shouldn’t have time to worry about her guy. But when he and his team go missing the week before Christmas, she realizes only a Christmas miracle will reunite them. Captain Nicholas Turner never backed down from challenges—on the battlefield or in his personal life. But he’d never met a challenge like Ashley, who doesn't want to be anyone’s “girl back home.” Now he’s on the other side of the world, wanting to be anywhere but

Sweet 21 Birthday Ball by J. Adams

Excerpt from the book: "When Italian pastry chef, Marcello Giannini took the train to visit his parents, he could never have guess how much this one trip would change the course of his life. Dominique Jensen has only loved one man her entire life, and she has been unable to open her heart to another. Discouraged, she wonders if the dreams and wishes she has fostered for so long will ever come true. But how long is too long to wait for love " My review: I really enjoyed this short story. It was well written and I could see how Dominique and Marcello's love for each other grew and changed. I enjoyed how the book began with Dominique bossing Marcello and how he was wrapped around her finger from the first moment. I appreciated how their relationship grew and changed as each year passed when he would come to visit her in the summers. I wasn't sure why Marcello felt that he had to wait until Dominique was twenty-one before he could tell her he loved her. Wh
