Duty, a novel of Rhynan by Rachel Rossano, Book Review

Blurb from the book:

Duty to King

Tomas Dyrease, the newly made Earl of Irvaine and the village of Wisenvale, owes his good fortune to his king and the recent civil war. When his benefactor demands Tomas marry the cousin of a noble, he obeys. However, no one warned him that she wasn’t a typical noblewoman.

Duty to Others

Brielle Solarius struggles to keep her village from starvation under the new Lord Wisten, her cousin. The men rode off to war and never returned. The remaining women and children face a dire winter if they do not find a solution soon. When she learns her cousin sold her into marriage to save his life, she isn’t surprised. However, she is taken aback by Lord Irvaine’s unpolished ways. Was this man a noble or a foot soldier?

Duty to Each Other

Bound by the words of their vows, they face a rough future. They must forge a marriage while battling betrayal, accusations of treason, and villains from the past. Survival depends on their precarious trust in each other. Failure could mean death.

My Review:

First off, I love the quote on the cover, "Can she love the man she married?"  It just begs the reader to find out!  I loved Duty!  It was nice to have a strong female character who knew her mind, didn't act helpless and did what she needed to do!  I loved Brielle, from her beautiful red hair to her stubbornness.   She is the kind of character that you can't help but root for!  I also loved Tomas, he was kind, dutiful and strong character.  Together could they make their forced marriage work?  I won't give away any spoilers, just know that you will enjoy the journey with Brielle and Tomas!  If you like historical or marriage of convenience books, you will enjoy Duty!  Four and a half stars! (And Ms. Rossano, can we please have another book about Lord Dentin?  I need to know his story!!!)

Happy Reading!!!

You can pick up Duty via Amazon or Smashwords.

  1. Thank you, Crystal, for reviewing Duty. Yes, Dentin is nagging me about a book of his own. He is a bit jealous of Tomas and Brielle. Besides, I want to explore his character, background, and see him happily settled down, of course. The stickler at this point it flushing out a woman equal to the challenges of being his wife. ;)

  2. Great review. I too love the quote on the cover. I will look for this book in the future for myself (after I'm out of research mode for the books I am under contract to write, lol.)

  3. Thank you Rachel for letting me into their world! I need to know Lord Dentin's secretive background that even Tomas doesn't know!

    1. I am playing with the idea of writing the next book in the series as Lord Dentin's story. He should be a very interesting character to work with, especially since he still won't tell me his name. :)
