A Foreign Crown by Jen Geigle Johnson, Blog Tour & Giveaway!!!

Book Summary:

A ROYAL REGENCY ROMANCE

Following a devastating series of misfortunes, Lady Aribella Bardsley has bravely shouldered the responsibilities of her household. But just as the bleakness of her situation threatens to overwhelm her, a summons arrives from the Queen with a providential offer: Aribella’s presence is requested as a lady-in-waiting at the palace.

Prince Layton Wilhelm’s family has clung to their neutrality in the war for far too long. As the youngest of the King of Oldenburg’s eight sons, Layton is determined to prove his worth and is unwilling to turn a blind eye to Napoleon’s encroaching privateers. When Layton embarks on a journey to England, it is for one purpose: to petition the British navy for aid. But when he becomes acquainted with the lovely Lady Aribella, he cannot deny their powerful connection. Amid the intrigues and schemes within the walls of the palace, Layton and Aribella know a future together is impossible—but torn between loyalty and love, will they risk everything to follow their hearts?

My Review:

Aribella and Layton’s story is one for the books, *sigh*. A Foreign Crown is full of hardship and a love that seems impossible to succeed. Throughout the book I wondered if Aribella and Layton would choose love or loyalty to their countries. It really made me think about the historical time period and the pressures that nobles and royalty faced when pursuing a match. What is more important, your heart or your duty? I really felt for Aribella and Layton as they each tried to figure out what was most important. It kept me guessing, which is always a plus for a book!

I loved the royalty and prince aspect of the story. Layton’s brothers had me laughing and smiling;  I am hopeful that they will get their own stories. Aribella serving as a lady-in-waiting to the queen was a unique perspective that I have not read before. The struggle to know who to and to not trust was a dilemma all its own. The beautifully described details of the castles and homes each person hailed from had me envisioning the beauty in my own mind. I want to see Layton’s castle by the sea! Fans of historical fiction, romance, and fairy tales alike will enjoy A Foreign Crown!
