It's All about Christmas

This book is the ultimate collection of Christmas facts, stories, quotes and trivia! For a person who loves Christmas like myself, it was a delightful treat to go through! My family enjoyed reading about how Santa came to wear red and white and how many presents the elves have to make each day to provide each child with one come Christmas morning! Even more wonderful were the pictures included that reminded me of days long ago sitting with my mom and grandma! This is a delightful treasury and great for a family to explore together! I would recommend it to anyone!

   My Review:

Words of Christmas

Words of Christmas is a great book that a family can utilize to focus on one word of Christmas each day leading up to Christmas! Or you can sit and read the entire book in one sitting! The book is beautiful with each word written in gold in a lovely font and a picture is included as well. There is a brief definition and a scripture that goes along with that word. This book is a great one to give as a gift to someone and to give yourself! I love the beauty of it and I love the idea of reading a different word each day to remind my family each day of the true meaning of Christmas!

This marble Christus statue is small but beautiful! It would make a great baptism present to remind a child or convert of the covenants they made during baptism. I love that it is small and doesn't take up too much space for those people who may not have a place to display a large statue!

Asleep on the Hay by Ben Sowards, Book Review & Giveaway!!!

Asleep on the Hay (1)

Asleep on the Hay

Book Summary:

Asleep on the Hay: A Dust Bowl Christmas by Ben Sowards

It’s Christmas Eve when a knock comes at the door of Paul’s family farmhouse. A small family is stranded due to a broken-down truck and seeks shelter for the evening. Paul’s grandfather not only welcomes them in, but offers them dinner and a bed for the night. Even though it is a season of giving, Paul’s heart is not filled with charity. It’s the height of the Dust Bowl and food is scarce. Why should he share what little he has with strangers? Worse, in order to help the sick baby, Paul will have to sell his beloved calf to buy a part to fix the truck. Angry, he retreats to the barn, where he sleeps and dreams of faraway Bethlehem. In his dream, he visits Mary and Joseph, and their newborn son, Jesus. The family offers Paul food and shelter and warmth—extending to him the love and charity he lacks and teaching him of the true meaning of Christmas.

It is quick read, but the story has depth and through the eyes of young Paul, the reader learns about giving, sacrifice and Jesus. I love this book so much, I am going to add it my collection of Christmas stories to share with my own family! Paul's journey pulled on my heartstrings and really made me reflect and ponder. My Review:

Sweets & Treats with Six Sisters' Stuff

So this cookbook is amazing! First and most importantly, it is all about desserts! My favorite!!! Secondly, it is super organized with a section for each type of dessert! Imagine an entire section dedicated just to brownies! I am in heaven! Third, each recipe is neat and organized itself. It has the name, prep time, cook time, total time and then how many servings it makes at the very top for easy reference. The page next to it shows a picture which is a bonus for me, seeing it helps me know if I want to make it! Last of all,  I love this cookbook because it actually contains recipes I want to make and are not so difficult I don't think I could make it happen! Like the chocolate turtle brownies, only 40 minutes from start to finish! This is my kind of baking book friends! I definitely recommend it and see it as a dessert go-to cookbook for any dessert lover!

Lord Apollo and the Colleen by S.G. Rogers, Book Review

Book Summary:

Five years after his supposed death, Theo King has returned to Graceling Hall...but a mystery remains. A stranger is buried in his grave, and nobody knows if his death was accidental…or murder. As Theo resumes his former life, the dead man’s sister shows up on his doorstep to hold him accountable. If he helps this Irish spitfire solve the mystery, will she finally leave him in peace?

My Review:

Lord Apollo and the Colleen by SG Rogers

This book is the companion novel to the book Larken. I truly enjoyed learning more about Theo and his friends Rowe and Clarissa. Learning Theo's backstory was intriguing and tied everything in the story together!  We got to meet a new character Megan, and man was she fiery and stubborn! I loved her attitude, her spunk and her accent! The kindness of the King family, the bonds of friendship that they shared, it made me want to be a part of their circle! I appreciated the perspective of six year old Myles and seeing behind the scenes so to speak! A great read that any regency fan will love, I highly recommend Lord Apollo and the Colleen!

Heir to Edenbrooke, by Julianne Donaldson Book Review

Book Summary:

In HEIR TO EDENBROOKE: A PREQUEL NOVELETTE (Shadow Mountain, November 17, 2015) Julianne Donaldson takes readers back to the world of Edenbrooke for more intrigue and romance.

Philip Wyndham has never envied his older brother for being the heir to Edenbrooke. He would much rather carve out his own destiny than live under the constraints of that position. But when his older brother dies unexpectedly, Philip's life is turned upside down as duty requires him to give up the life he planned. Philip takes on his new role as the most sought-after bachelor in London with alternating reluctance, boredom, and resentment. But all that changes the night fate leads him to an inn, where he meets the incomparable Marianne Daventry.

My Review:

Heir to Edenbrooke

Donaldson once again has written a beautiful story that pulled me in and would not let me go! This novellette is the prequel to Edenbrooke and is written from Phillip's perspective. I loved learning Phillip's backstory, his feelings, his thoughts! And I never wanted the book to end!  I loved Every. Single. Word. I couldn't get enough! I still can't because this story is as timeless as Austen's Pride and Prejudice! I want to live in this book and never come out. Buy it! Read it! And if you haven't read Edenbrooke and Blackmoore then go and buy them and read them, you will not be disappointed!

Christmas Kisses, An Echo Ridge Anthology, Book Review

Book Summary:

Christmas Kisses is a collection from five bestselling and award-winning authors. Set in the snowy town of Echo Ridge in upstate New York, these inspirational romances are sure to delight while you sip cocoa by the fire and listen to Christmas carols.

Christmas Makeover by Cami Checketts bestselling author
Chelsea Jamison has been infatuated with Drew Stirling longer than she's loved playing basketball, high-top sneakers, and the Knicks. Unfortunately, all Drew sees is the kid who kicked his trash in the high school free throw contest and not the girl whose heart breaks into a fast dribble when he's near.
Drew makes an unexpected visit home to Echo Ridge and their friendship picks up where they left off as they scheme to make a teenaged boy's Christmas dreams come true. When Chelsea realizes she's fallen for her best friend, she wonders if there is any hope of a relationship with Drew or if she's stuck in buddy-status for life.

The Candy Counter Heiress by Lucy McConnell bestselling author
Someday Reese Gates will own The Candy Counter at Kenworth's; but someday can't come fast enough when the manager threatens to bring in a national candy provider. Reese secretly takes matters into her own hands hoping to save her parents from additional worry and prove herself capable of running the company. Her deception deepens as she ropes computer guru Andy Edwards into helping her expand the business. Reese wanted to shake things up, but she wasn't planning on her heart getting caught in the mix by Andy's stolen kisses. If she can hold it together until after Christmas, then she can reveal her successful online company and her feelings for Andy. Unfortunately for Reese, even the best laid plans can melt like chocolate.

Soda Fountain Christmas by Connie E. Sokol bestselling author
Keira Kenworth has one focus this holiday season: save her father's old-time department store from bankruptcy. She is not focused on Tayton Wells, the tall, dark, and genius marketing guru from downtown New York, hired to make it happen. He is as doubtful that her nostalgic connect-the-town ideas will succeed as she is about his numbers-first plan. However, it's not just their different approaches that cause sparks to fly. Working together on a fast deadline to save the store before Christmas, the unspoken connection between them grows. But will the tough decisions they face drive them back to their separate worlds, or will they lead to the beginning of love?

One Winter Night by Heather Tullis bestselling author
Jonah Owens thought moving to Echo Ridge to open his art gallery would solve all of his problems. The need to sell his grandma's house adds an unexpected complication. It would be easier if his neighbor didn't have all those farm animals.
Kaya Feidler's family has owned their land for nearly a hundred years--long before the neighbors were there. There's no way she's giving up the animal therapy business she's been struggling to make profitable. She gets a temp job helping Jonah in the gallery. Spending time together is a recipe for romance, but can they overcome their own hangups to be more than friends?

Hope for Christmas by Rachelle J. Christensen bestselling & award-winning author
Anika Fletcher hates Christmas--its promises of good tidings and hope for the future are as tinseled as the ornaments on Kenworth's Hope Tree. Despite her feelings, Anika wants to maintain her daughter's faith in the magic of the season and gladly accepts a second job working with the handsome Carlos Rodriguez to restore Kenworth's old fashioned soda fountain. Carlos is no stranger to hard times and slowly shares his life of light and joy with Anika as they work together. Just as her fragile soul begins to feel hope again, an ill-timed act of charity changes everything. Anika isn't sure who she can trust or if hope is worth nurturing--especially at Christmas when it's easy to enjoy a kiss and believe love can last longer than the season.

My Review:

Christmas Kisses, An Echo Ridge Anthology

This collection of Christmas stories is like a plate full of your favorite Christmas cookies, you never want it to end! Starting with the first story about Reese at The Candy Counter to the last story about Kaya, I could not seem to get enough of the small town of Echo Ridge and the close-knit people who live there! I want to go to Kensworth's and see Reese at the Candy Counter, Carlos and Anika, Tayton, Drew...there are too many to name! But it all came alive for me and in my mind I can see Echo Ridge! I love how each story was it's own but still tied in to the others! It was great seeing the different perspectives of certain events and honestly if you didn't know better, you would think they were all written by the same person! Seriously go buy this collection of Christmas stories! It will make your toes tingle and your heart merry and ready for the greatest and happiest time of year!

By the River by Jennie Hanse, Blog Tour, Review, & Giveaway!

 Book Summary:

It was supposed to be a relaxing early morning run, but the path along the river trail quickly turns into the scene of a nightmare for recent college graduate Kira Paxton. An unintended exploration of a secluded riverbank leads to a gruesome discovery that sets her on a collision course with danger: it is the body of a young woman. In shock, all Kira can manage to do is scream . . . From the moment Ford Kettering hears the cries for help along the trail, he is drawn irrevocably into a mystery in which he plays a shocking role. Ford, a local high school teacher, had a recent classroom clash with the victim—now, he’s a person of interest. As Ford and Kira bond over their shared ordeal, they work together to prove Ford’s innocence—and soon, their attraction is undeniable. But it seems that Kira’s nightmare is far from over. What begins as a series of close calls and acts of vandalism soon escalates, putting Kira’s own life in jeopardy. It appears that Kira saw something that day along the trail, something that has made her a target. With Ford’s help, she is determined to track down the killer—before she becomes the next victim.

My Review:

Hansen wastes no time in opening the book with a frightening discovery and a mystery as to how it happened. Enter Kira and Ford who meet by happenstance and are both tangled up in the mystery. Hansen creates realistic suspense, flawed characters that make them seem real and a mystery that I couldn't for anything figure out! Usually in mysteries I can follow the clues and figure it out before the main character, but Hansen does a fabulous job keeping the reader wondering and engaged until the very end! If you like a good murder mystery and love story then you will certainly love By the River!

One Last Spring by Sian Ann Bessey, Blog Tour

 Book Summary:

The quiet village of Llanwddyn has long been a safe haven for Gwen, a young Welsh country girl whose life has been fraught with tragedy. Following the untimely death of her parents, it was her aunt's home in Llanwddyn that provided Gwen and her brother a refuge from their grief. Now, with the unwelcome news that the village is to be razed in the name of progress, an inescapable wave of change has begun.

When her brother departs to follow his dream of sailing the high seas, Gwen is left alone to navigate the shifting world around her. She soon finds herself relying on the support of her brother's best friend, Lewis, a gentle blacksmith whose kindness stirs her heart. Resigned to the fact that Lewis may never see her as more than a child, Gwen is soon swept off her feet by Thomas, a prosperous young Englishman. Torn between two men and two very different paths, Gwen has little time to determine what course her heart will follow. With time running out for her beautiful valley, will love come too late?

My Review:

I quickly became engrossed in young Gwen's story, there was a pull in this book that I couldn't ignore. Her brother going off to sail the seas and his best friend left to watch out for her. I could picture in my mind the small town of Llanwddyn and tight knit community that watched out for each other. I could envision the damn that was being constructed and the mountain where Gwen would go to sketch and seek solace. I felt for Gwen who lived with an Aunt who had a hard time showing her love when her only brother had left to answer the call of the seas. It is difficult for me to explain it but this story just pulled me in and didn't let me go until I was done. From the freezing winter to the damn construction, every part of this book painted a vivid picture in my mind and every character left an impression in my heart. An emotional journey that I felt along with Gwen, One Last Spring is a book I will not soon forget!

Puzzle Pieces by Betsy Brannon Green, Blog Tour & Giveaway!

Book Summary:

Presley DeGraff is a young woman on the run. With nothing but the clothes on her back, her escape from the ruthless manipulations of her former fiancĂ© leaves her with little time to hide. There is only one person to whom she can turn, only one place she may be safe . . . Haggerty, Georgia, is known for its Southern hospitality and quirky inhabitants. For Presley, her Aunt Violet’s home in the tiny town is a lifesaving haven. Her aunt, along with a cast of delightful friends and neighbors, warmly welcomes her. For the first time in so long, she feels hope—a hope that hinges on hiding her past. But the dreams of solitude that she had envisioned quickly fade when a disturbing discovery is made in her aunt’s backyard: a human skeleton. At the first hint of crime, Haggerty’s own amateur sleuth, Miss Eugenia, is on the case. Along with handsome Haggerty resident Mac and sprightly ninety-nine-year-old Loralee, Presley is quickly drawn into a mystery spanning generations of Haggerty’s history. But when news coverage of the investigation digs up Presley’s own secrets, it’s up to her new friends to come to her aid, by whatever means necessary.

My Review:

I have been a big fan of Green for awhile now and I was so excited that she has written another Haggerty mystery! Her characters like Miss Eugenia and her sister Annabelle are bigger than life and their personalities leap off the pages! Green knows how to write a great mystery and the entire time I was wanting to know more, trying to figure out how everything fit together, just like the title of the book! The glimpses into Presley's life had me wanting more information and kept me reading until the late hours of the night! I love the town of Haggerty that Green has created and reading this new novel in the series brought me right back to the southern hospitality and busybodies I have missed! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves an overall good read!

Secrets of Neverak (A Tale of Light and Shadow), Jacob Gowans, Book Review

Book Summary:

Henry Vestin believed that despite being only a carpenter he could lead Isabelle and their friends to safety. He thought he could defy an emperor and protect Isabelle from harm. He was certain that love and friendship would be enough to survive.

He was wrong.

The Secrets of Neverak follows Henry and his friends after the disastrous battle at the Iron Pass. Horrors await them in strange new lands. Crippled and broken, Henry must rely on his friends more than ever. Allies and foes find them at every turn, but which are friendly and which are deadly? Isabelle, now a slave in Neverak, finds herself surrounded by enemies, uncertain about the fate of her friends, and desperate to escape. The Emperor moves forward with his plans of conquest, spurred on by the Seer's dark prophecy, but he has not forgotten those who defied him.

Return to the world of Atolas, where a blade can extend life or end it, where friendships can topple kingdoms, and where the Path of Light and Shadow is feared by all but a few.

My Review:

If you are a fan of epic/high fantasy then you will enjoy Secrets of Neverak. It is a great story with a lot going on and there are a lot of details to pay attention to! This was definitely not a quick or easy read for me, but I attribute that to the fact that I am not a huge high fantasy person. If you love this genre then definitely go pick it up! You will enjoy the new lands, the characters and the fight!

Happy Reading!!!

A Timeless Romance Anthology, Under the Mistletoe Collection, Book Review

Book Summary:

Six Award-Winning Authors have contributed new stories to A Timeless Romance Anthology: Under the Mistletoe Collection. Six contemporary novellas, all adding sweet romance to the Christmas season.

In the enchanting novella FORGOTTEN KISSES by Cindy Roland Anderson, costume designer Madison Taylor has no love lost when the male lead playing Sir Lancelot in a TV series is fired. She couldn’t stand working with him anyway. But when she discovers who his replacement is, her heart nearly stops. Caleb Matthews is one of the hottest male actors ever… and not to mention Madison’s former boyfriend. When things got too serious between them, everything fell apart. And now, Madison must play nice or lose her job. She just has to forget all of the reasons she’d fallen for him in the first place.

In THE LAST CHRISTMAS, a sweet romance novella by Annette Lyon, Meredith only has to make it through the Christmas holiday pretending that she and her husband Eric aren’t on the verge of divorce. She doesn’t want to ruin the holiday for her two grown daughters and their boyfriends. But when Eric hurries home after weeks of living in a motel to unpack before their daughters arrive, he starts pressing Meredith with questions about why she filed for divorce. The last thing Meredith wants to do it give Eric a second chance, but it seems that Eric is not willing to let her go without trying to win her back.

In Julie Coulter Bellon’s captivating novella TRUTH OR DARE After a year of recovery, wounded war veteran Jonah Harrison comes home for Christmas. No longer the outgoing high school track star, he just wants to be left alone, away from well-meaning friends and neighbors. But when a blizzard strands him with Cami Jackson—the girl who once knew him best—he can’t hide anything from her, no matter how much he wants to. Cami has a wounded heart of her own, though, and it might take a Christmas miracle for them to find the healing they both long for and the courage to reach for a chance at love.

In the charming novella HOLIDAY BUCKET LIST by Sarah M. Eden, Celeste Lagorio has officially given up on Christmas. A single mother, with her children grown and unable to return for the holiday, Celeste determines to take a break from everything. When her single neighbor and almost-best-friend, Mike Durham, discovers her non-plans, they discuss things they’ve always wanted to do, but never had time. Mike and Celeste put together a friendly competition of checking off the things on their bucket list, all the while drawing closer and discovering they have more in common than they thought.

In CHRISTMAS EVERY DAY, a delightful novella by Heather B. Moore, Monica is on the verge of buying her dream store, but when she tells her boyfriend, he turns it into an embarrassing public argument. Heartbroken, but determined to follow her dream, she goes to her employer’s Christmas party to play Mrs. Claus, only to be paired with someone unexpected. A young Mr. Claus who is the complete opposite of her ex-boyfriend in all the most important ways. Yet, Monica is not sure she can risk opening her heart again.

In Jennifer Griffith’s exciting novella FIRST (AND LAST) CHRISTMAS DATE, pilot Juliet Law has been in a holding pattern, dating the wrong guy, until she gets a holiday shake-up: old flame Tag McClintock e-mails her to ask for second date—after ten years. Their first date, back in high school, had been an unmitigated disaster culminating with Pepto Bismol and the police. Still, Juliet would have gone out with Tag again the next day—and the next—had he asked. So now that he’s finally popping up in her in-box again, Juliet must decide whether to say yes to the date, even if it puts her at risk of another decade of carrying a torch for Tag McClintock. Will their second date be their last?

My Review:

So this collection of stories was double the awesomeness for this reader! I love these anthologies and I love Christmas, so I was so excited to read these short stories!  I really loved the diversity in the stories; no two were the same, all were unique. I especially loved that they were not your typical romance, they had characters with distinct circumstances, whether they were a single parent, a returned war vet or high school crushes gone wrong. Each one put me in the Christmas spirit and had me itching to break out my hot cocoa! Honestly this collection is perfect for anytime, but especially for the reader who is busy and doesn't have the time to read a full length novel. Each story is its own wonderful present to be opened! I look forward with anticipation to the next anthology to be released!

Reawakened by Colleen Houck, Book Review

 Book Summary:

When seventeen-year-old Lilliana Young enters the Metropolitan Museum of Art one morning during spring break, the last thing she expects to find is a live Egyptian prince with godlike powers, who has been reawakened after a thousand years of mummification.

And she really can't imagine being chosen to aid him in an epic quest that will lead them across the globe to find his brothers and complete a grand ceremony that will save mankind.

But fate has taken hold of Lily, and she, along with her sun prince, Amon, must travel to the Valley of the Kings, raise his brothers, and stop an evil, shape-shifting god named Seth from taking over the world.

From New York Times bestselling author Colleen Houck comes an epic adventure about two star-crossed teens who must battle mythical forces and ancient curses on a journey with more twists and turns than the Nile itself.

My Review:

Reawakened by Colleen Houck

Honestly I was afraid of this book! Would I or could I love it as well as the Tiger's Curse Series? Could anything live up to my love for that series? Houck amazes me! While this is not anything like the Tiger's Curse Series it is entrancing and I was captivated by the story! It is unique with the Egyptian background and myths of the Gods.
It is captivating with the characters freshness and strong sense of self. It was fun to be on Lily and Amon's adventure. I felt like I was right there watching the entire book unfold! The ending left me satisfied yet craving more! Houck is gifted and anything she writes, I will be reading!

Every Little Kiss (Kissed by the Bay #1) by Susan Hatler, Book Review

Book Summary:

When Wendy Watts left Blue Moon Bay, she vowed never to return to the small coastal town where her parents had abandoned her and her brother. Now she’s a successful Realtor, and a workaholic who stays away from complicated emotions—until her grandmother dies, leaving Wendy the Inn at Blue Moon Bay and mandating that if Wendy sells it, she must put it on the market herself “in person.”

As soon as Wendy arrives in Blue Moon Bay, bad memories, the inn’s poor condition, and her brother’s pleas to keep the inn overwhelm her. Then she meets a sexy laid-back stranger on the beach, and Wendy does something she never does . . . she opens up and confides her problems to him. Since Max Huntington’s only in town for one night, Wendy spontaneously kisses him, hoping to be distracted from her troubles for just one evening.

But when Wendy begins the painstaking process of fixing up the inn in order to sell it, Max tells her he’s staying on longer. He’s enchanted by the charming inn and even more with the kisses they shared on the beach. He wants to help her with the repairs, and she reluctantly accepts his offer.

Although she’s determined to remain detached from the allure of her inn, Blue Moon Bay and Max, every repair, every stroll on the beach, and every moment spent with Max, draws her in and reminds her of the local legend she’d believed as a child: that being kissed by the bay under a blue moon will lead to love that lasts forever.

My Review:

Every Little Kiss (Kissed by the Bay #1) By Susan Hatler

Okay let's be honest shall we? Hatler is my go-to girl for a sizzling clean romance with swoon-worthy kisses! I can always count on her books to pull me in, keep me entranced in the characters' lives and leave me satisfied yet wanting more! Every Little Kiss is amazing! Wendy is so uptight and organized, running from everyone close to her. When she meets Max sparks fly and she finds her world tipped on its axis! I love not only the story between Wendy and Max, but each relationship with Wendy's friends and her brother Brian. Hatler builds her characters and layers the story so well that it is flawless to this reader! If Hatler is writing it, I am reading it! I am counting down to book two!

My Review:

Always Will by Melanie Jacobson

I loved this book! I am a new reader to Jacobson and I was unsure how the story would flow and how fast I would become intertwined with the characters and their stories. I was pleasantly surprised to find that right away I fell into Hannah and Will's lives! I loved their banter, their Tetris nachos, their idiosyncrasies! All of that aside and the schoolgirl crush turned unrequited love story and this reader was in for the long haul! I couldn't tear myself away from the book! I brought it with me everywhere until I finished it! So yeah, I am now going to be hunting down her backlist because if all of her books are this good, then I am a goner...hook, line, and sinker!

My Review:

I stayed up way too late to read this book, but it was worth every minute of lost sleep! I adore regency novels and this one had me mesmerized from beginning to end! I felt like Rosamund was a friend or sister, her character was so well developed! And Aubrey was truly a beast of a character, I loved watching him evolve. Best of all was the twist/surprise craziness I shall not ruin for you! Read this book! Go grab it and you will love every second you spend with Rosamund, Aubrey, Joe and the Duchess! Bravo to Rogers, she has yet to disappoint!

My Review:

Played For a Fool by Stephanie Black

Wow is the only word that seems appropriate for this book. I just finished reading it and my mind is still whirling and reeling from all of the intricacies of the plot! Black tells a tale with strong and determined main characters who face twisted, evil and selfish villains. Readers will find themselves cheering for Megan and wanting to be as kind, forgiving and strong as she was. Black kept me turning page after page and left me still thinking about the story. All signs of a book well written! I look forward to reading more from her!

Lord Fenton's Folly by Josi Kilpack, Blog Tour

Lord Fenton's Folly (1)

Lord Fenton's Folly

Lord Fenton's Folly by Josi Kilpack

Lord Fenton is a gambler, a dandy, and a flirt-and he must marry or else he will be disinherited, stripped of his wealth and his position. He chooses Alice Stanbridge for two simple reasons: he once knew her as a young girl, and she is the least objectionable option available to him. However, Alice has harbored feelings for Fenton since their first meeting ten years ago, and she believes his proposal is real. When she discovers it is not, she is embarrassed and hurt. However, a match with the most-eligible bachelor in London would secure not only her future but that of her family as well. Determined to protect herself from making a fool of herself a second time, Alice matches Lord Fenton wit for wit and insult for insult as they move toward a marriage of convenience that is anything but a happy union. Only when faced with family secrets that have shaped Fenton's life does he let down his guard enough to find room in his heart for Alice.

My Review:

Kilpack is a favorite of mine by now, I have read her entire Culinary Mystery series so I could not wait to read her regency novel! And the anticipation was warranted because this book was a hit for me! Immediately Kilpack immediately grabbed my attention when Fenton and Alice meet as youth during a stunt that Fenton had pulled. I loved Alice and her wit and honesty even as a child! Fenton w
as a character that gave me a run for my money! He was so all over the place, yet I found myself rooting for him despite his crazy ways! You will fall in love with Fenton and Alice and Lady Chariton too,  An emotional story full of broken dreams, misunderstandings, betrayals, tender mercies and ultimately love. Does love drive most everything? This book makes you think, it had me questioning if I could be kind and merciful, or if I would become bitter and angry. Books that make me think are think are the best ones around. Bravo to Kilpack, if she writes it, then I am definitely reading it!

Excerpt:

Fenton groaned and put his saucer back on the tray, making an instantaneous decision that eased his mind quite a lot. To look at every woman he met as a potential wife was irritating, and after only two weeks he was quite tired of it. Perhaps the solution was to orchestrate a match that would not lay all aspects of matrimony at his feet all at once. Perhaps treating it as a business arrangement would help it to be exactly that, thereby freeing him from all the discomfiting realities he was not yet prepared to face. "I leave for Fentonview on Tuesday and shan't be back for a week. Courting is such a boring prospect, and you yourself said that to become infatuated with anyone might become a complication." He paused, considered one last time what he was going to say next, and decided he felt as good about it as could be expected. "You like Alice Stanbridge and feel she would make a good wife for me?" Lady Chariton looked confused and perhaps a bit concerned. "I do, but-" "Then that is good enough for me," Fenton said, rising to his feet and smiling broadly at his mother, who stared back at him in surprise. "I do find her appealing and what's more she is not a silly little thing without a practical thought in her head." His mother's eyes widened and her eyebrows rose upon her forehead. Fenton struck a pose of consternation, with his thumb and forefinger on his chin as he looked toward the window a moment, then nodded crisply and turned back to his mother who still looked shocked by his pronouncement. "Yes, I think that Alice Stanbridge is exactly what I should like in a wife, and so I shall see to it before I leave for Hampshire-I see no reason to wait until Michaelmas and might as well get it over with." He leaned in and kissed his mother's hand. "Thank you for your help, Mama. I shall let you know how she responds to my proposal."
