Plague by Gregg Luke, Blog Tour & Giveaway!

Book Summary:

Professor Mitch Pine knows all too well the history of epidemics, so the startling new information he’s discovered has him racing to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. Mitch has uncovered a startling pattern: dramatic environmental changes always occurred prior to devastating outbreaks, and current climate change may be such a catalyst. But before his plane lands, Mitch’s journey takes a terrifying turn. He is intercepted by a woman who represents a dangerous faction whose interest in Mitch’s research opposes his mission to save lives. To secure Mitch’s cooperation, his research assistant is being held hostage. With so many lives on the line, Mitch embarks on a turbulent trip around the world, uncovering pieces of the puzzle until he ultimately holds the key to prevent—or precipitate—global devastation. Unless he can find a way to stop the lunatics behind his abduction, a plague the likes of which the world has never known will be unleashed.

My Review:

Luke literally pulled me into this wild ride and didn't let me off until I had finished the entire book. And it was sooooo good you guys! This is an insane ride of action and suspense like no other I have read before. I was so worried I would get bored with all of the scientific stuff that is really quite over my head, but Luke does a fine job of shelling out the info in a way the reader can understand and apply towards the storyline. And this one is a doozy! I mean, Mitch's assistant is kidnapped, he has been kidnapped...and we really are not completely sure why? It isn't all adding up and I felt like there was a key component I was missing! I liked the edge of the seat suspense and overall flow of the story. Some of my favorite characters were the ones with small parts in the book, but I would love to learn their stories as well. I am crossing my fingers for Hiru's and Sissy's stories. Hopefully Luke has more to write than just this one hurrah with these characters. This is one fantastic book and I suggest finding a comfy chair to read it in, because you won't be getting up for a long while!

Miss Adeline's Match by Joanna Barker, Blog Tour

Book Summary:

Miss Adeline Hayes is the perfect lady's companion: pleasant, conversational, and unceasingly proper. But when her closest friend, Charity Edgeworth, breaks off her arranged marriage without explanation, even Adeline's superior skills are put to the test. Charity's father banishes the two young women to the country, sending Adeline with a charge to find Charity a husband or suffer dire consequences.

As Adeline takes on the role of reluctant matchmaker, she discovers more than one obstacle in her path. Not only does Charity prefer escaping in books to socializing, but Adeline soon finds her own attentions distracted by the standoffish—and irritatingly handsome—Mr. Evan Whitfield. Amidst an eventful foxhunt and the unexpected arrival of Charity's former betrothed, Adeline simply doesn't have time for a battle of wits with Evan. But the two are continually drawn together until Adeline begins to question her tightly guarded convictions about love and marriage.

However, when secrets are revealed and truths made known, Adeline must face her most fearsome obstacle yet: herself.

My Review:

Right off the bat I was pulled right into Adeline's life and her story. From her ailing father, to her friendship with her best friend Charity. Her life was intriguing and she was everything that was prim and proper. She always knew what to say and do, so when she pops off defending her friend, I was quite shocked! Then Adeline and Charity are sent off to Charity's aunt's home with Adeline being told she had better find Charity a husband or the consequences would be disastrous! So Adeline is torn between doing what is right for her friend or what is right for herself. All while she meets Mr. Whitfield, who happens to be frustrating to her and intriguing at the same time. I felt like he was a little bit reminiscent of Mr. Darcy, which made me love it all the more.  I got to a point where I could not believe what was actually happening and I couldn't tear myself away from the book....I had to finish!! I highly recommend Miss Adeline's Match to anyone who is a fan of regency romance novels!

Catherine's Intrigue by Paige Edwards, LDS Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

To fulfill her mother's last request, twenty-four-year-old historic design specialist Catherine Pressley-Coombes travels to England in order to investigate an elusive family line. Armed with an illegible diary, she is determined to discover the identity of her mysterious ancestress. Distracted by an Elizabethan manor and unused to British country roads, Catherine runs her car into a ditch. Luckily, Nick Davidson, a handsome, hard-working local rides in on his tractor to save the day. As the down-to-earth manager of his family's estate, Nick also happens to be one of England's most eligible aristocrats.
Nick is certainly not the kind of man Catherine would fall for a man dogged by media and rumor. So why does she find the English lord so irresistible? Even though she can't overlook their differing values and beliefs, as she and Nick spend time together, their attraction deepens. While she battles through romantic turmoil, Catherine is beleaguered with far more sinister concerns: a series of unexplainable misfortunes that are not mere accidents. With her heart on the line, Catherine discovers her life is in jeopardy, and she has no idea who the perpetrator is but she has a growing suspicion that the danger might be connected to whatever secrets lie hidden in her ancestor's diary.

My Review:

Catherine’s Intrigue was just that! I was completely intrigued and this book had me hook, line, and sinker. People, seriously, I had no regard for the fact that I had to wake up to an alarm the next day! Who does that? Well, a person who gets sucked into a book and cannot possibly find their way out until it ends. That was how Catherine’s Intrigue was for me. It was a modern day LDS regency novel with a murder plot to boot. What wasn’t in this book? I am pretty sure it covers it all! I couldn't stop reading it, it was so good. The sibling relationship, the connection she is trying to find to her long lost ancestor, the journal she cannot decipher, all of these things plus one handsome neighbor who happens to be a lord make for an even better story!  One of my favorites of the year, Catherine’s Intrigue is a definite read for fans of LDS romance with a side of danger and suspense!

Emma and Jane LDS DVD Blog Tour & Giveaway

Movie Synopsis:

JANE & EMMA is based on the life of Sister Jane Manning, one of the first black Mormons. She returns to Nauvoo to find that Joseph Smith, her prophet and friend, has been assassinated. Jane spends a ceaseless night with his widow, Emma Smith, sitting watch over the body of the prophet as a whirlwind of loss and confusion leaves them wondering how either one of them will be able to move forward. Through the long night, Jane wonders if the prophet’s promise to extend the blessings of eternity to her has died along with him. The film explores the possible events of that night, including Jane’s endeavor to remain amongst the Mormon people and Emma’s struggle to cope with her heartbreaking loss. Poignant issues of racism and polygamy threaten to break their bond of friendship. In the end, will Jane and Emma have the courage to follow the path each believes they must take?

My Review:

The story told is dramatic and emotional, pure and raw. There were points when I was brought to tears. This was an unknown story to me and it definitely piqued my interest to study Jane Manning's story. In fact, I began reading up on her during the movie because I was so interested in her life. I would love to be able to read her journal.  Not everything in the movie is historically accurate, but the emotional story told brings the viewer into a unique perspective of the early church that many have not even considered before.

Kristi's world is rocked by Ace's sudden reappearance, and she's soon drawn into his world of danger and cover-up. But when Kristi herself becomes a target, Ace will do whatever it takes to protect the only woman he has ever loved.

My Review:

Abramson always delivers a fast-paced and action-packed novel and Sanctuary is no exception! I love how Abramson sets the story and she has you glued from the get-go! I have been waiting patiently for Ace to get his story so I was beyond excited when I learned this book was coming out. This is definitely a suspense novel you do not want to miss! Her Billionaire Surgeon by Dobi Daniels, Book Review

Book Summary:

She's signed off on love. He thinks marriage is a noose. But a fake engagement might bring the love that sets them free.
Rising-star surgical resident Dana Adams thinks no one can love her and has signed off on love, content to live it vicariously through soap operas. But she agrees to go on one blind date to appease her godmother.
Fellow surgical resident Josh Roman is desperate to escape his father's controlling grip and follow his dreams, and a surprise inheritance of his grandmother's vast estate might just be his ticket out.
But there is just one condition: he has to be engaged within thirty days or forfeit everything.
Since Josh Roman doesn’t see any reason to exchange one shackle for another called marriage and is determined to avoid the disastrous blind date arranged by his father, Josh ropes in Dana—his friend's roommate—to pose as his fake fiancée.
But when the lines between fake and real begin to blur, will they give love a chance, or will their deep-rooted issues and the potential backlash if the truth is discovered keep them from a happily ever after?
This is a sweet/clean fake fiancée medical billionaire romance with no cliffhangers and a guaranteed HEA.

My Review:
I really enjoyed this clean romance novel by Dobi Daniels. The story was easy to read and easy to fall into. I loved Dana because she was strong yet also vulnerable. She had a nice balance of both qualities and she was a straight up rock star when she met the Wonder Six! Anyone who could handle those ladies deserves a gold medal! Josh was a nice surprise. I really thought that because he was a billionaire he would be snotty and conceited. I was pleasantly surprised at his kindness and goodness. Dana and Josh were such an unlikely pairing but they fit so well together. I loved how he saved himself and her from disastrous blind dates!!  This is an easy read that will leave you smiling when you are finished!

Tormented by thoughts of what could have been, they realize it is impossible to rewrite history. But is there a future in which they might both find happiness—and true love?

My Review:

I loved this book so much. It just welcomed me with open arms and kept me there until the very end. There are so many things I want to say about this book. It made me feel so many different emotions, it was not just a run-of-the-mill regency novel. There was depth to the characters and their relationships. I think one of the best parts of the novel is that you get both main characters' perspectives. You get to here from Eleanor and from Edmund. The entire time I kept thinking that there had to be a way that they could move beyond whatever happened in the past, surely they were still meant for each other. There are so many ups and downs; all of the emotions you can imagine are felt in this book. Anger, passion, love, hate, mistrust, understanding, hurt, pain, kindness....seriously this book made me feel. There is more than just romance to the story and every part of it kept me turning pages until the very last one.

Healing Hearts (Savage Wells #2) by Sarah M. Eden. Blog Tour

Book Summary:

Wyoming Territory, 1876

As the only doctor in the frontier town of Savage Wells, Gideon MacNamara knows his prospects for a bride are limited. The womenfolk in town are either too young, too old, or already spoken for. So, being a practical man, he decides to take advantage of the matchmaking service of the day—mail-order brides—and sends away for a woman with nursing experience.

When Miriam steps off the stagecoach in Savage Wells, she sees a bright future in front of her. But when the town—and Gideon—meets her, ready for a wedding, her excitement quickly turns to horror. Somehow Dr. MacNamara's message had gotten turned around. He didn’t want a nurse, he wanted a wife. When she refuses to marry him, she finds herself stranded in Savage Wells with some very unhappy townspeople.

But Gideon is not like the other men Miriam has met. Embarrassed by the misunderstanding, he offers her a job, and the two begin an awkward—and often humorous—dance of getting to know each other as they work to care for the people of their town. Romance blossoms between the two, but when a former medical associate of Miriam’s arrives in town, Gideon and the other townsfolk must rally around Miriam to protect her from a dangerous fate. Gideon and Miriam must decide if they are willing to risk their hearts for each other even as buried secrets are brought to light.

My Review:

Eden has a way of drawing the reader into a new world and holding them captive until there is literally nothing left to read. I loved this book so much! Immediately I was drawn to Gideon and Miriam, they started off with a huge misunderstanding but both were willing to still work together. I was intrigued to figure out Miriam's secrets she was hiding. And how would everyone else treat her once they figured it out as well? I loved how authentic and real this book felt. I honestly find myself still thinking about this story because it really struck a chord with me. I cannot imagine all that Miriam went through and what life was like back then. The entire asylum aspect is something not usually addressed in historical novels and I found it was done tastefully and in a manner that led me as the reader to feel sympathy and horror at the same time for what people must have endured back then. One does not want to imagine and I applaud Eden for tackling a difficult subject. This book was everything you guys! It kept me up until 1am to finish reading it because I couldn't put it down. I tried ,but I had to know how it ended! I love Savage Wells and how they are not just a community but more like a family. This book is amazing!

Bloodline, by Kathi Oram Peterson, Blog Tour & Giveaway!

Book Summary:

France, 1371. The old Queen of France lies on her deathbed with a secret she will take to her grave: there is one true heir to the throne, one who would have the power to ally France and Scotland. But after her death, all that will be left are a few shreds of evidence revealing the stunning identity of her successor.
Flight attendant Skye Armstrong has heard the voice of warning before, and as she’s returning home from London, she recognizes the feeling of dread that accompanies her sixth sense. Walking from the airport terminal to get to her car, she pauses in the middle of the road. Her hesitation gives a Good Samaritan the split second he needs to pull her out of the path of a speeding car, saving her life. But her misfortunes are just beginning. When she arrives home, she discovers that Auntie Marjorie has been kidnapped, and cryptic instructions have been left behind: Skye must retrieve the contents of a safe deposit box and deliver it to the captors . . . No police. Her feelings of dread return.
What Skye discovers in the bank box is baffling: a single page. The ancient document is certainly valuable, and with no time to lose, she goes to the rendezvous to discover the next step. A cell phone rings beneath a park bench. She answers the call, and on the screen is a picture of Auntie, unconscious. Now the kidnapper demands Skye find two more pages or her aunt will die.
What secrets are hidden within the illuminated pages, and who believes they are worth killing for? And what role does the Good Samaritan play in all of it?

My Review:
Well Bloodline literally had me page-turning the entire time! It started out with a bang and the action and suspense never let up. I felt like it was a roller coaster ride! I never knew who Skye could really trust and I was just as confused as she seemed to be about what in the world was going on! I felt my heart-racing and pounding as she tried to find each page and know who to trust. All she wanted to do was save her Aunt, yet I wondered in the back of my mind if she cared just a little bit about the priceless pages she was finding. This book was fantastically put together and I could not stop reading it. I tried! Sleep is a necessity but reading is more important! This is definitely one to read if you are a fan of being kept on your toes and trying to figure out puzzles and mysteries. My one and only complaint, which isn't really a complaint, was the ending. I will not spoil it for you, just suffice it to say that it ended too quickly for me. I wanted more information...more something, why did it have to end?! So I am hopeful that there is a book two on the horizon!

My Review:

Ya'all this book is Ah-Mazing!!!  I started reading it at 8:30pm and I didn't stop until I had finished the very last page. IT. IS. THAT. GOOD.  Seriously, Linton just pulled me into Lizzy's world and she wouldn't let me go! I had to find out what would happen to her and Thomas. How were they going to eat, find shelter, or survive at all? And then enters Barton, cue the swooning now. This gentleman is not only handsome but he is so kind-hearted! I just wanted Lizzy to see how good he was and to trust him. Every time I felt like everything was solved and under control another twist and turn would come into play. I loved this story so much. The Warrior Maiden (Hagenheim #9) by Melanie Dickerson, Book Review

Book Summary:

Mulan isn’t afraid to pretend to be a son and assume her father’s soldier duties in war. But what happens when the handsome son of a duke discovers her secret?

Mulan is trying to resign herself to marrying the village butcher for the good of her family, but her adventurous spirit just can’t stand the thought. At the last minute, she pretends to be the son her father never had, assumes his duties as a soldier, and rides off to join the fight to protect the castle of her liege lord’s ally from the besieging Teutonic Knights.

Wolfgang and his brother Steffan leave Hagenheim with several other soldiers to help their father’s ally in Poland. When they arrive, Wolfgang is exasperated by the young soldier Mikolai who seems to either always be one step away from disaster... or showing Wolfgang up in embarrassing ways.

When Wolfgang discovers his former rival and reluctant friend Mikolai is actually a girl, he is determined to protect her. But battle is a dangerous place where anything can happen — and usually does.

When Mulan receives word that her mother has been accused of practicing witchcraft through her healing herbs and skills, Mulan’s only thought is of defending her. Will she be able to trust Wolfgang to help? Or will sacrificing her own life be the only way to save her mother?

My Review:

Dickerson performs her magic again and weaves another delightful fairy tale in the Hagenheim series! How she does it, I do not know, but it has to be magic! I loved Mulan's story and she did such a great job of letting us into Mulan's mind and seeing her for who she truly was. I felt Mulan's pain at being different in the village and feeling like she had to marry someone who didn't love her, just to save her mother. Then she made the choice to pretend to be a boy so she could save her mom's home and escape a marriage she doesn't want.  The fact that Dickerson made Mulan fearless yet not a fighter beyond what one would believe made the story realistic and believable. The relationship between Wolfgang and Mulan was a friendship and I wondered if it could or would go anywhere else. The obstacles in the book never seemed to end and it left me reading furiously to see if there would or could be a happily ever after! Dickerson never disappoints and The Warrior Maiden is no exception! I received a review copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my  own.

Potion Masters 1 & 2 by Frank L. Cole, Book Review

Book Summary:

Twelve-year-old Gordy Stitser is one of the few people who knows the truth about the secret society of potion masters, because not only is Gordy’s mom on the Board of Ruling Elixirists Worldwide (B.R.E.W.), but she has also been training Gordy in the art of potion-making.

Gordy is a natural, and every day he sneaks down to the basement lab to invent new potions using exotic ingredients like fire ant eggs, porcupine quills, and Bosnian tickling juice.

One afternoon, Gordy receives a mysterious package containing an extremely rare potion known as “The Eternity Elixir.” In the right hands, the Elixir continues to protect society. But in the wrong hands, it could destroy the world as we know it.

Now, sinister potion masters are on the hunt to steal the Eternity Elixir. It’s up to Gordy, his parents, and his best friends, Max and Adeline, to prevent an all-out potion war.

My Review:

Potion Masters is a great book geared for children and middle graders! Honestly anything from about fourth grade on up, depending on their reading level. But kids will love this book! I mean it has this great character named Gordy who is a natural when it comes to potions. What kid doesn't like potions and magic? The book is paced well and the storyline is easy to follow. What kid wouldn't like this book? It has potions, family, villians and friends who set out to save the day!

Book Summary:

It has been nine months since Gordy and his friends, Max and Adilene, Saved B.R.E.W. (the Board of Ruling Elixirists Worldwide) and the Vessel—the power source for the secret society of potion masters. Now, Gordy is starting the eighth grade, and has been trying new potion brewing techniques, but when he starts zoning out during practice, he knows something is wrong.

Gordy and his friends continue to work on their potions, but when Gordy chooses Max as his lab partner, Adilene starts to wonder if she still has a place with her old friends. She turns to a new friend, Cadence, who might know a way to help Adilene become a potion master on her own.

And in Greenland, Mezzarix has a chance to escape his Forbidden Zone—as long as he agrees to work with the mysterious Ms. Bimini and replicate an unusual solution known as “Silt.” It could be just the weapon Mezzarix needs to destroy B.R.E.W. forever.

With both B.R.E.W. and the Vessel in danger, and with the potion world in chaos, it’s up to Gordy, Max, and Adilene to rally the remaining Potion Masters before it’s too late.

My Review:

Gordy and his friends are back again in the next installment of the Potion Masters series! This is the second book in the series and it is recommended that you read the first one to understand everything in the second one. Of course all is not as it should be and there is someone wanting to overthrow and destory B.R.E.W. and this time it is Gordy's own grandpa! Everyone is at risk and it is an exciting ride to go on as Gordy and his friends try to save the day! The Transparency Tonic is a great addition to the series and any middle grade reader would love to read it!

Happy Reading!!!

Whiteout by Brett Cain, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

Long hours of driving on the frigid interstate have taken their toll. In a split second, Frank Sawyer’s car drifts and clips a passing van on the otherwise empty Montana highway. In the aftermath of the wreck, Sawyer encounters a gruesome scene: the van’s passenger did not survive. But it isn’t the crash that took his life—he’s been shot. Before Sawyer can assess what’s happened, he’s struck from behind. When he regains consciousness, he discovers that his attacker is gone, his car is missing—and the police have named him their prime suspect in the dead man’s murder.
The harsh winter weather bears down as the chaos unfolds, and Sawyer finds himself trapped in the small town of Cluff. And law enforcement is keeping him firmly in their sights, so there’s no possibility of escape. As he struggles to clear his name, Sawyer looks to the past for answers, becoming embroiled in a decades-old mystery that may hold the key to proving his innocence.

My Review:
The story started with a bang and I was immediately hooked, wanting to know what would happen to Sawyer and his stolen car. Not to mention the dead body and whoever knocked him out! I love action and suspense stories so Whiteout was right up my alley. The story kept me on my toes the majority of the time and I couldn't help but feel cold from the blizzard Sawyer was in!  I liked the small town of Cliff where everyone knew each other and the author laid the town out so well, I could picture it in my own mind. Sawyer was a great main character; he was driven to help others. And can we mention he is this huge guy who happens to be some type of amazing fighter? Who is Sawyer really? Is he some ex Navy Seal or a former Marine? This reader cannot help but think there is more to his story! My favorite part of the story was trying to solve the mystery of whodunnit. Cain definitely kept me guessing and I was surprised when I found out who and what had actually happened. If you are a fan of action/suspense, you should give Whiteout a try!
