Second Chance in Dry Creek by Janet Tronstad, Book Review

Blurb from the book:

Her neighbors in Dry Creek, Montana, think Gracie Stone is rebuilding her life just fine on the family ranch. But Calen Gray knows better. Foreman of nearby Elkton Ranch, Calen has been sweet on Gracie half their lives. But harrowing circumstances kept them apart—and sent Gracie away. Now she's back, barely holding her head up, and refusing to believe she has a second chance at happiness. With faith, love and the gentle airing of long-held secrets, Calen just might find a way to bring back her smile—forever.

My Review:

Second Chance in Dry Creek is all about Gracie Stone trying to rebuild her life in the town she once lived in before she was arrested.  This Christian novel is all about second chances and starting over again.  Gracie has to decide if she can learn to trust again....her neighbors, her friends, and most of all her heart.  I have not read the other books in this series and it was easy to understand what the book was about.  The author explains enough about what happened before this book that I didn't feel like I was lost or confused.  Janet Tronstad has a writing style that is easy to read!  If you like Christian or inspirational stories, then you will enjoy Second Chance in Dry Creek!  Gracie became a character that I felt I knew and one that I was encouraging on in my mind.  A little bit of mystery as well, this was an enjoyable read!  Three and a half stars!

You can pick up Second Chance in Dry Creek via Amazon  or Barnes and Noble.

My Review:

Let me start by saying that this cover is GORGEOUS!!!  That alone made me want to read the book, but the title caught my attention also!  So I sat down to read The Ice Captain's Daughter and was not disappointed!  S. G. Rogers did a beautiful job weaving a captivating tale of kidnapping, love and trying to fit into London society.  I really felt that I came to know Jillian and I was impressed with her kindness and quality of her character.  If you love regency romance novels, I know you will LOVE The Ice Captain's Daughter!  I read it in one sitting!  Five stars and I hope she makes this a series!!!

Dangerous Favor by Joyce DiPastena, Book Review

Blurb from the book:

Her father has been accused of stealing from the king, an allegation that has reduced her family to poverty. She has one chance to find and marry a man who can help her prove her father's innocence. Lord Therri, heir to a rich barony, has the wealth and connections Mathilde needs to delve into the mysteries of her father's past. Furthermore, Therri embodies all her romantic dreams. Etienne, the younger son of a disgraced family, has neither wealth nor connections, but is smitten with Mathilde at a glance. She finds the knight intriguing, but believes he is only out to seduce her. While she seeks for a way to win Therri's attention, Etienne tricks her into granting him her favor-an embroidered white ribbon-for a tournament, setting in motion a dangerous chain reaction of events. Can Etienne save Mathilde from a nightmare from her past and prove himself the true hero of her dreams?

My Review:

Wow, this is my FAVORITE book by Joyce DiPastena so far!  I love her other ones, but this one is absolutely captivating!  I literally could not put the book down!  The entire story was so intriguing, the almost four hundred pages literally flew by!  It was fun to revisit some characters from the first two books, Loyalty's Web and Illuminations of the Heart.  (While it is helpful to have read these two books first, it is not necessary to understanding this story.)  This book is full of knights, tournaments, princesses, royalty, secrets, conspiracy, and love stories!  There are so many dimensions to Dangerous Favor that it is sure to please even the pickiest of readers!  Five stars and I hope there are more books from Ms. DiPastena soon!
(This book is what I consider completely "clean", no sex scenes and no cussing )

Mere Enchantment by Alicia Rivoli, Book Review

Blurb from the book:

A World Like No Other…

When a newly formed group of friends finds themselves fighting for survival, little did they know that was just the beginning.

When Chloe, Megan, Jason and Zach are forced to take cover in a nearby cave from a violent storm they find their new friend Preston there as well. Zach guides the group through the cave but as they go deeper strange things begin to happen and they find themselves separated in a magical kingdom surrounded by unusual people and wizards. Things get even more dangerous as they travel the kingdom in search of the city of Mere and each other.

As their journey unfolds, Preston discovers that the bedtime stories he was told as a child are true and that his rightful place in time must be realized. The kingdom itself has gone under attack as Jacan, a traitor to the crown, forces his armies through the magical borders.

Looking back Preston should have recognized that it was all real. He should have seen the signs. But how could he have known? After all, Jacan was just a villain in a story that took place in a far off mystical land. How could he have imagined that the stories that his father told him as a child were true?

How could any of them have known that their destinies were already written, and that to discover who they really are would take courage that they never realized they had?

My Review:

So my first impressions of this book are that it is unique, interesting and a wonderful fantasy novel.  The cover is beautiful and that alone would make me want to read the book.  I liked the characters and enjoyed the descriptions that the author gave of them, so I could picture them in my mind.  The first part of this novel I loved and couldn't read fast enough.  However, once I got about half way through the book, the pace seemed to drag for me.  Too many unnecessary details that bogged the pace down, and the back and forth between the main characters was a lot for the reader to keep track of.  My biggest problem with this novel was the dialogue between the characters.  It wasn't believable to me, I kept thinking that no one talks like that, ever.  With edits, this and the many unneeded details could easily be fixed.  While I read this on my kindle, I realized at about 95% through that there was no way the author could wrap the story up and I was going to be left hanging.  I don't mind this usually, except I felt like I read a lot of pages and was left with no resolution.  On the bright side, the story and world that Alicia Rivoli has created is unique and magical!  The main theme of the book is great and I do want to read the next one in the series!  Three stars.

A Stranger in Wynnedower by Grace Greene, Book Review

Blurb from the book:

Love and suspense with a dash of Southern Gothic....

Rachel Sevier, a thirty-two year old inventory specialist, travels to Wynnedower Mansion in Virginia to find her brother who has stopped returning her calls. Instead, she finds Jack Wynne, the mansion’s bad-tempered owner. He isn’t happy to meet her. When her brother took off without notice, he left Jack in a lurch.

Jack has his own plans. He’s tired of being responsible for everyone and everything. He wants to shake those obligations, including the old mansion. The last thing he needs is another complication, but he allows Rachel to stay while she waits for her brother to return.

At Wynnedower, Rachel becomes curious about the house and its owner. If rumors are true, the means to save Wynnedower Mansion from demolition are hidden within its walls, but the other inhabitants of Wynnedower have agendas, too. Not only may Wynnedower’s treasure be stolen, but also the life of its arrogant master.

In letting go of what she has struggled to control and hold onto, will Rachel gain more than she could have dreamed? Or will she lose everything and everyone she cares about?

My Review:

I loved this book!  It is Beauty and the Beast meets mystery novel!  The story slowly drew me in and then there were so many questions that needed answering, mysteries that needed solving.  I kept coming back to the book, I NEEDED to know what the answers were!  Were there ghosts in the mansion?  Did someone take Rachel's brother against his will?  Who is Jack really?  Who can Rachel trust?  Is there really treasure hidden in Wynnedower?  You will fall in love with Rachel as she tries to answer all of these questions and more!  Sit down and relax, because once you start reading this book, you won't be going anywhere for awhile!  Five stars for a captivating read!

Gentry's Gallery of Angels by Stephy Smith

Blurb from the novella:

Amanda Gentry is engaged to Nicolas Tandy Harper. They're set to marry on Christmas Eve. When her Grandmother Izella Sanders fades into a coma, everything spirals out of control. Amanda takes on the responsibility to ensure all the holiday celebrations are met, even if it's at the expense of her own wedding.

My Review:

This novella is an inspirational western romance.  I love westerns!  Horses, cowboys, you get the picture!  This particular novella is about a girl named Amanda who is engaged to Nicolas, the owner of the store in town.  There is your typical villian, who wants Amanda, and harasses her every chance he gets.  Meanwhile, Amanda's grandma takes ill and she doesn't know how she can keep it all together.  While I enjoyed this story, I found that I kept waiting for something big to happen and it never did.  It was pretty anti-climatic for me.  Other than that, it was a quick afternoon read that was okay.  Three stars out of five.

You can pick up Gentry's Gallery of Angels via Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

The Yielding (Age of Faith #2) by Tamara Leigh, Book Review

Blurb from the book:

The Unveiling, the first book in the Age of Faith series, introduced readers to the formidable Wulfrith family during Duke Henry’s battle for England’s throne in 1153. Now, four years later, Henry wears the crown, but the Wulfriths are no less defiant—and no more amenable to forging alliances through king-decreed marriage.

Convent-bound Lady Beatrix Wulfrith is determined to aid her sister in escaping marriage to their family’s enemy. Unaware of the sacrifice that awaits her, she leads their pursuers astray only to meet with an accident that forever alters her destiny and takes the life of a young knight whose brother vows he will not rest until the lady is brought to justice.

Lord Michael D’Arci is a warrior and a womanizer whose foul mouth and impatience bode ill for all who trespass against him. Falsely accused of ravishment years earlier, he refuses to believe Lady Beatrix’s accusations against his deceased brother. However, when he finds himself at the mercy of that same woman who clings to her convictions and faith even when it threatens to prove her undoing, his quest for justice wavers.

My Review:

The Yielding is the second book in the Age of Faith series by Tamara Leigh.  So if you haven't read The Unveiling yet, I would highly recommend that you read it first.  The Yielding is a wonderful continuation of the story of the Wulfrith family.  While the first book focuses on Garr and Annyn, this second book focuses on his sisters, specifically Beatrix.  I loved getting to know her character and by the end of the book I felt like I knew her.  She was so stubborn and determined to defend herself at all costs!  I truly loved Lord D'Arci!  What a war he had within himself trying to decide if he should follow his heart or his mind concerning Beatrix's innocence. This story was amazing and I lost a lot of sleep while reading it!  It is captivating and the way that Tamara Leigh writes kept me intrigued throughout the entire book!  A brilliant read, you do not want to miss The Yielding!  Five stars!
(There is a sneak peek at book number three at the end and I cannot wait for it!!!!)

You can pick up The Yielding via Amazon.
