Amnesty by Jo Noelle, Blog Tour, Review, & Giveaway

Amnesty by Jo Noelle

Cassie is going to heaven—if she can get amnesty from hell in the next twenty days. Her assignment is to change the eternal destination of a girl in Albuquerque to earn admittance into heaven. No sweat. But when Cassie returns to earth during her three-week, mostly-mortal assignment, her old habits get in the way, (apparently habits don’t die when you do), the partners assigned to help her are anything but helpful, and it turns out the girl she is supposed to help is the only enemy she made on her first day of school. Oh, I’m so going to hell. Things aren’t all bad—it helps to have a hot angel on your side. Mmm-Marc. Even though he’s all about heavenly business, Cassie would like to make it personal. Assignment with benefits. This young adult novel is a coming of age story with a clean romance, packed with action and suspense.

My Review:

So Amnesty took me by surprise, that's for sure! This book is completely different from any that I have read, seriously! Cassie takes her friend's car while she is drunk, convinces two of her other friends to come with her, and ends up crashing and they all die. Enter judgement, where you kind of judge yourself by your own life and choices.  Cassie feels remorse for her actions and pleads for forgiveness and is granted a twenty day period back on earth to receive amnesty through her assignment to help someone else change their life. I love the premise of the book and I was drawn to the idea that Cassie had a chance to redeem herself. Marc and the gate were one of my favorite parts of the book. While I had some major parts of the story pegged and felt like there may have been one too many visits to 'the gate', I still truly enjoyed reading Cassie's story!

Palace of Mirrors by Margaret Peterson Haddix, Book Review

Book Summary:

"Somewhere in the world I have a tiara in a little box. It is not safe for me to wear it...It is not safe for me even to tell anyone who I really am. But I know -- I have always known."

Cecilia knows that she is not just another peasant girl; she is actually the true princess, in hiding until the evil forces that killed her parents are vanquished. A commoner named Desmia is on the throne as a decoy.

As she gets older, Cecilia finds it harder to study statesmanship and palace protocol secretly at night and then pretend that she has nothing on her mind other than scrubbing the gruel stains out of her best apron by day.

Cecilia knows that it is time to take charge. Along with her best friend, Harper, she flees to the capital city, determined to reclaim her throne and face the danger head on.

When Harper and Cecilia reach the famed Palace of Mirrors, they discover complications: Princess Desmia believes an entirely different version of the story.

Acclaimed author Margaret Peterson Haddix returns to the charmed world of Just Ella, where a princess-in-hiding and a pretender to the throne discover that nothing is as it appears.

My Review:

This is a really nice middle grade/ tween book.  I loved the idea of the real and true princess being in hiding to protect herself and the throne.  Every royal should have the experience to live among her subjects undetected, right? There was a great relationship built between Cecilia (the true princess) and Harper (her best friend) and they really learned how much they meant to each other.  I thought that I had the whole princess story figured out but Haddix had some plot twists up her sleeve. I hate spoilers so I won't tell! You need to read Cecilia and Harper's story if you like princess books! Definitely a fun read!

Once Upon a Prince (Royal Wedding #1). by Rachel Hauck, Book Review

Book Summary:

Once Upon a Prince, the first novel in the Royal Wedding series by bestselling author Rachel Hauck, treats you to a modern-day fairy tale.

Susanna Truitt never dreamed of a great romance or being treated like a princess---just to marry the man she has loved for twelve years. But life isn't going according to plan. When her high-school-sweetheart-turned-Marine-officer breaks up instead of proposing, Susanna scrambles to rebuild her life.

The last thing Prince Nathaniel expects to find on his American holiday to St. Simon's Island is the queen of his heart. A prince has duties, and his family's tense political situation has chosen his bride for him. When Prince Nathaniel comes to Susanna's aid under the fabled Lover's Oak, he is blindsided by love.

Their lives are worlds apart. He's a royal prince. She's a ordinary girl. But everything changes when Susanna receives an invitation to Nathaniel's coronation. It's the ultimate choice. His kingdom or her heart? God's will or their own?

My Review:

Once Upon a Prince

Watch out happily ever after fans because this is one Cinderella story you do not want to miss! Doesn't every girl want to meet a Prince? But what happens when you meet one and you don't even know it? Everything seems to go wrong for poor Susanna! Is it bad luck or The Lord guiding her life in a new direction? Enter the handsome and dashing Nate, also known as Prince Nathaniel! He just happens to be at the right place at the right time! I love how their friendship progresses naturally and how realistic the entire story felt even though it was about a Prince!!!! This story is moving, magical, and the characters are so down to earth that you cannot help but cheer them on. Days later I am still thinking about this story...and longing to get my hands on another Rachel Hauck book! Blessed with a gift for writing, Hauck is definitely a new favorite for me in the Christian romance genre!

Moon Mail and Star Kisses, Blog Tour & Giveaway!!!

Moon Mall

  Moon Mail and Star Kisses

Moon Mail and Star Kisses by Amanda Salisbury

In Moon Mail and Star Kisses, a loving adult and child must be separated for a little while. The adult promises the child to send greetings and kisses through the night sky, shared no matter the distance of place or time apart. The moon, the stars, and a person’s love are bright and constant even when they cannot be seen.

My Review:

This children's book is bright and beautiful! While the message is sweet and clear about sending love and kisses via the moon to each other when separated, the jewel of the book are the pictures! Children will be captivated by the bright blues and yellows in the pictures and beautiful illustrations of the sky. This is a sweet book that any parent and child or loved one and child can read together for comfort when they have to be apart!

How Beautiful Thy Temples, Sacred Hymns Volume II by Garth Smith, CD Review

How Beautiful Thy Temples
Sacred Hymns Volume II
Garth Smith

An Angel From On High: This is a piano player’s arrangement. Every time I attend my local temple (San Diego) and look into the sky at the angel Moroni, I get a feeling of majestic reverence for “(the) angel flying through the midst of Heaven, having the everlasting gospel…”

I Love To See The Temple: This Janice Kapp Perry song is the one that enters my mind every time I drive to a temple to do ordinance work or even when I pass by.

How Beautiful Thy Temples, Lord: One of the most moving hymns I know, verses 1 and 3 sum up so eloquently thepurpose of the temple. I wish this hymn was better known. My hope is that this CD will play a small part in making it more popular among the saints.

Families Can Be Together Forever: Besides the sheer physical beauty of the temples, there is one grand reason that makes them beautiful beyond price or worldly value…the eternal nature and salvation of the family.

The Lord My Pasture Will Prepare/Sheep May Safely Graze: The titles alone of these two beautiful hymns seemedto complement each other perfectly. Arranged from Bach’s 1713 “Hunting Cantata”

There Is A Green Hill Far Away: My mother told me that she once asked me as a small boy what my favorite hymn was, and this was my answer.

Be Still My Soul: This was an arrangement I did specifically for my daughter who needed hope in a moment of trials. This song is a favorite of many for good reason. The message applies to all.

He Is Not Here: Crawford Gates classic Easter hymn, part of the “Choirbook” publication of the church.

Master The Tempest Is Raging: “Peace, be still” is something I can imagine Christ saying to each of us in our moments of crisis.

The King of Love My Shepherd Is: Harry Rowe Shelley’s classic 1915 version.

I Come To The Garden Alone: Traditional Baptist hymn. I included this as a gift of appreciation to the wonderful people of Alabama, where I lived for 9 years.

Abide With Me, ‘Tis Eventide: One verse “benediction“ to the CD

Right now, How Beautiful Thy Temples is number 33 on the iTunes top 100 New Christian Music Charts!!!  See that here.

My Review:

I am a new listener to Smith and I am now a new fan! I was having a pretty rough morning when I decided to put  this CD in and listen. I am so glad that I did! I had goose bumps from the emotion that I could feel as Smith played. It transported me from a bad morning to a beautiful place of hope. This will definitely be my new Sunday listening music!

I noticed right away the talent that Smith has a pianist. The beauty of the arrangements have me hoping he will also release sheet music! Discovering a new artist is always exciting yet discovering one that I love is even better! Please, please, please release sheet music, I beg! The beauty of these arrangements will captivate you! You will feel the emotion of the song portrayed through the piano and you too will feel the Spirit through these songs! Five stars and I am anxious to listen to more from Garth Smith!

Endless by Jaclyn Weist, Book Review

Book Summary:

Sydney lives her nightmares every night. While other teenagers are dreaming of boys or traveling to exotic places, she must run a staircase with no beginning or no end, or a terrible debt will never be paid.

Just before her seventeenth birthday, the dreams change. She is no longer alone.

But her nightmares don’t end when she wakes up. Her stepmother and stepsisters threaten to ruin everything she holds dear. She must protect the secret that both she and her father have magic or they will use it to their advantage.

As Sydney learns to control her magic, what seemed impossible before—escaping her stepmother and those ever-present stairs—is now at her fingertips. When she learns the ultimate plan of her evil captor, Sydney must stop her at all costs, or she will forever be trapped inside her nightmares.

My Review:

I picked this up when it was a freebie from Amazon and since I love fairy tale re-tellings, I thought I would give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised by how easily I fell into the rhythm of the story and how engrossed I became with Sydney's life! This is easily one of the most unique spins on Cinderella that I have read! I cheered for Sydney when she made friends easily at camp, I was so happy when her Dad came home and stuck up for her, I was mad FOR her when her step mom and sisters treated her like garbage! When she met Luke I sighed inside for her and her hope for a relationship! And yeah, I kind of wanted to punch her step family when they continued treating her like their personal servant! A modern magical spin on Cinderella, any fans of fairy tales, magic or young love will truly enjoy Endless!

Happy Reading!!!
