Solving Sophronia (The Blue Orchid Society) by Jennifer Moore, Blog Tour & Review & Emmeline is FREE!

Book Summary:

Lady Sophronia Bremerton is a far cry from the typical debutante, but she's the toast of London's upper class for one simple reason: she's a society columnist for the London Illustrated News, and the gentry loves seeing their exploits printed in the gossip pages. But Sophie has bigger plans - she aspires to be an investigative reporter. When a stuffy ballroom at yet another Season proves to be nothing more than the usual rumor mill, Sophie seeks respite in the library alongside four other young women who, for their own reasons, are also looking for escape. As the conversation turns to their secret ambitions, the women form a sisterhood and a bold plan: they will make their dreams a reality, no matter the obstacles. Thus begins the Blue Orchid Society.

Hearing of a murder in a London rookery, Sophie seizes the opportunity to prove her skills. Detective Jonathan Graham doesn't believe a civilian, a noblewoman at that, should be anywhere near a murder investigation, but Sophie insists on helping bring the killer to justice. Her investigative prowess doesn't go unnoticed by the police, especially Jonathan, who can't decide whether this intrepid reporter is a thorn in his side or the woman of his dreams. But as the case grows more complicated and dangerous, their very lives - and their hearts - may be at risk.

My Review:

Moore beautifully and brilliantly introduces each character in the Blue Orchid Society and tells a whodunnit tale like no other! Her friends are a great set of "misfits" for their time period and I loved how the Blue Orchid Society was formed on the spot. Sophronia is an intelligent and heartfelt character that any woman can relate to in some form or fashion. I was impressed with how Moore accurately expresses the plight of a woman in the Victorian era in a way that the modern reader can easily understand. Sophie just wanted to be seen for who she was instead of being told what she can or cannot do. This is a fascinating read that I could not get enough of! I was on the edge of my seat trying to solve the string of murders along with Sophie and Detective Graham and whoever you think did it, think again! Moore serves up a slice of whoddunit pie with a side of romance with Solving Sophronia! It will keep you reading until the very end and leave you gratified!

Rakes and Roses by Josi S. Kilpack, Book Review

Book Summary:

A Mayfield Family Romance

Lady Sabrina endured an abusive marriage, a miscarriage, and early widowhood to emerge as a smart, successful, confident woman who found a way to make her mark in a man’s world. She has friends and purpose, but cannot hide from the emptiness she feels when the parties are over and the friends have gone home to families she will never have.

Harry Stillman may be charming and handsome, but he’s a gambler and a rake who has made a mockery of his privileges. He turns to the mysterious Lord Damion for financial relief from his debts, but still ends up beaten nearly senseless by thugs and left in an ally.

When Lady Sabrina comes upon Harry after the attack, she remembers the kindness Harry once showed to her six years ago and brings him to her estate to heal. Though their relationship begins on rocky footing, it soon mellows into friendship, then trust. But Lady Sabrina needs to keep Harry at a distance, even if he is becoming the kind of man worthy of her heart. After all, she is keeping a secret that, if exposed, could destroy everything she’s so carefully built.

Advanced Praise:

“Uplifting...Kilpack flips the typical Regency romance script, with the heroine rescuing the hero. Kilpack's strong, upright heroine who finds a way to claim her power in Regency society sets this love story apart. This magnetic tale will appeal to fans of emotional romance.”
-Publishers Weekly

“Excellent. Kilpack deftly integrates such topics of spousal abuse and addiction into the compelling story line of her latest sweet love story. Fans of Mary Balogh's traditional Regency romances will be captivated by this quietly powerful tale of faith, compassion, redemption, and love.”

My Review:

What I loved so much about this story was the opposites in Sabrina and Harry. While Sabrina had survived an abusive marriage and become a strong and independent woman; Harry was a rake who was so caught up in gambling and drinking that he went too far at the tables. The chance encounter of Sabrina finding him beaten and taking him in was more than chance to me. These two were meant to be together! I loved the journey that both Sabrina and Harry take. It wasn't just about Harry overcoming his vices and his past, it was about Sabrina learning to let go and trust again. So we got to see two very different people's journeys and it was beautiful to watch it play out. My favorite part was the lap blanket! A pink lap blanket, I want one now!

A Proper Charade by Esther Hatch, Book Review

Book Summary:

Lady Patience Kendrick was born to a life of privilege, and with the London Season looming, she finds herself facing unprecedented pressure to adhere to the rules of society. Unfortunately, the free-spirited young woman is anything but proper. Patience's elder brother, a former military man, bemoans his sister's antics - but when he accuses her of incurable frivolity, it is simply more than she can bear. Determined to prove her brother wrong, Patience undertakes a drastic experiment: she will disguise herself as a maid and demonstrate her ability to work as hard as anyone.

Taken on as household staff by her brother's former general, Patience soon learns that willingness and ability are two very different things. While her plan sounded promising in theory, the reality is that she is out of her depth - and the irresistibly charming son of the house isn't helping matters. Patience soon finds herself embroiled in a charade far more complicated that she imagined. With both her pride and her heart at stake, she is determined to prove her brother wrong - even as her plans spiral delightfully out of control.

My Review:

This is one of those books that just sucks you in and doesn't let you out until you are done! Patience is unapologetically herself and honest, her character was so refreshing! I loved her fortitude and her desire to prove herself capable and hard-working. The hare-brained scheme she comes up with is crazy and yet she manages to get hired on as a maid. I just laughed at her attempt to wax the furniture and enjoyed her talks with Mr. Woodsworth like I was in the room with them. Hatch creates such endearing characters that the entire story came to life right in front of me! The entire time I was waiting for everything to come falling down and crash, but Patience surprised me at every turn. And so did Mr. Woodsworth! Her spontaneity and his planning were the perfect combination of opposites attract. Sit back, feel the sparks fly, and watch this fun and heart-warming story unfold!

Ace, A Fighter Pilot Romance by Sophia Summer, Book Review

About the Book:

A fighter pilot with regrets, a humanitarian worker with a mission, and a second chance to work through everything that keeps them apart.

Dex Callison, otherwise known as Ace makes a split second decision to parachute into a hostile situation to make a lot of things in his life right. His life as a Senator's son, a JAG Air Force pilot and then an active duty soldier have not yet filled the loss of his best friend, the only woman he has ever loved, Gianna West.

Gianna West thought that she and Dex were made for each other forever. He'd promised to finish his active duty and then join her building orphanages all over the world in remote villages. But she learned in one instant, how much more Dex wanted to start his own military training program, much more than he wanted to be with her. Alone, serving people she falls in love with, she tries to tell herself she doesn't miss him. All of that goes out the window when he shows up in her village on a remote island.

When you travel to a different country every six months, there’s little time for relationships. Every pilot joins Top Flight for different reasons, but no one expects to fall in love.

My Review:

What I loved the most about Ace is that was fast-paced, full of action, and romance! It was very easy for me to read and I enjoyed the fighter pilot aspect of the story. It reminded me a bit of Top Gun and I could imagine Dex with his aviators on. Especially hearing their call names, it brought me right into the fighter pilot world! Unfolding the backstory to Dex and Gianna's relationship was intriguing and their chemistry was next level! I wanted them to both stop being so stubborn and figure out that they belonged together. The combination of humanitarian aid work and training fighter pilots was captivating and made me think about smaller countries and the struggles they face in their daily lives. Ace is an easy read full of action and romance!

The Duke's Second Chance (Lords for the Sisters of Sussex) by Jen Geigle Johnson, Book Review

Book Summary:

Second chances often come from surprising places. Will the Duke find another chance at love when everything seems to be combining against him?

Gerald feels as though he’s lost everything when his wife takes her last breath.

Amelia’s world turns upside down when the Duke of Granbury steps into her tea shop and leaves with her heart.

But when a secret from Amelia’s past unveils possibilities, will the duke get a second chance at love from an unexpected source?

Buy this first book in a Regency romance series for a taste of deep loyal friendship, beautiful second chances, and the path to heal a heart.

Look for the other books in the series:
The Earl's Winning Wager
Her Lady's Whims and Fancies
Suitors for the Proper Miss
Pining for Lord Lockhart
The Foibles and Follies of Miss Grace

My Review:

What I loved most about this book is that is was an easy read. I didn't have to try to get into it, it just pulled me in. I truly loved Amelia's character and her openness and honesty. She was an angel for Gerald he didn't realize at first. Her tenacity and willingness to put herself out there for someone she barely knew, that was incredible. Wondering if the two of them would or could ever end up together kept me reading on late until the night. Would Gerald be able to move past his grief and be happy again? How and would Amelia be a part of that happiness? All of these things kept me hooked and reading until the end!

The Earl's Winning Wager (Lords for the Sisters of Sussex #2) by Jen Geigle Johnson

Book Summary:

Lord Morley's life will change forever when he wins a game of cards and a family of sisters to go along with it.

Miss Standish in none too pleased to have become the responsibility of yet another Lord, even if he is full of charm and goodness. Her responsibilities are to her sisters first.

With the repairs on the castle moving forward nicely and concerted efforts in a season in Bath made to find suitors for them all, Miss Standish and Lord Morley must determine where duty stops and matters of the heart take over.

Read this warm tale of family, sisters, loyalty and love to get a huge dose of the best part of a regency romance fans of Jane Austen or Georgette Heyer would enjoy.

My Review:

I started reading this book as soon as I finished the first book in the series (you can read each as a stand alone). I loved reading Lord Morley's story! To win an estate with a castle and five sisters to take care of in a hand of cards? And one of those women you happen to have a fancy for? This story was so easy to read and I loved the Standish sisters! June was an endearing character as she acted as a mother to her older sisters and cared for their happiness above her own. The renovations to the castle and the mystery surrounding the sisters' connection to royalty is fascinating! I need and want to know more about their background, it is so intriguing! If you love sweet regency era novels, this is the book for you!
