On The Run (A Guardian Novel) by Traci Hunter Abramson, Blog Tour & Giveaway!

Book Summary:

As one of the top investigative journalists in the nation, Elle Jameson has a knack for uncovering the truth. So when a promising lead points to corruption on a German military base, Elle anticipates a straightforward assignment. But then she stumbles upon a deadly conspiracy beyond anything she’s faced before, and her scrutiny does not go unnoticed. She knows too much, and she can’t be allowed to live. With no idea where to turn for help, she does the only thing she can: she runs.

The guardians, an elite team of undercover agents, have one job: safeguard those under their protection. As a new guardian, Nolan has just received his first solo assignment to help a young woman who just survived an assassination attempt. Within minutes of making contact with the beautiful journalist, however, their location is discovered. Thus begins a game of cat and mouse spanning the globe as the two work to stay ahead of a determined assassin. Nolan fights to buy Elle time to complete her investigation, and what she discovers is a plot that threatens the very fabric of America. In a desperate race against evil, Nolan and Elle are the only ones who can prevent global catastrophe.

My Review:

This is nail biting suspense and you will not be able to put it down!  From the first page the intrigue and mystery began, and I had to know who was behind the theft of the drones and was so intent on killing anyone in their way. Elle was a bright and intelligent young woman who seemed to be willing to face any foe for what was right. Nolan was smart, quick, kind, and caring. He fit right in with the other Guardians. I love this series so much, it made me feel like I got an inside peek to what it would be like trying to safeguard key government secrets and people. Sit back and hold on to your seat, because this book will keep you on the edge until the very last page. Furiously fast-paced, phenomenal, and full of action, On the Run is a must read this year! I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Love Starts Here ( A Morgan's Grove Novel #1) by Traci Borum, Book Review

Book Summary:

Feeling her life is at a standstill, Jill McCallister jumps at the chance to visit Morgan’s Grove, the town founded by her great-great-great-grandfather. Eager to discover her roots and do research for a new book, she drives from Colorado to Texas, excited to meet the inhabitants of her grandfather’s legacy.

Jill immerses herself in the charming community, enjoying the residents and their quirky traditions. When she meets the mysterious Rick Wright, she almost forgets she’s sworn off men, but she’s not willing to risk getting too involved, especially since she will be returning home in a few weeks.

When the winter festival kicks into high gear, Jill and Rick are thrown together to work on a project, and sparks soon fly. Although she fights it, Jill can’t help falling hard for his soulful eyes and flirty smile. But as tempting as Rick is, he’s hiding something, and the mystery writer in Jill is determined to discover his secret.

With the clock running out on her time in Morgan’s Grove, Jill needs to decide what “home” really means to her.

My Review:

Love Starts Here is city girl meets country done best. Jill is a famous author trying to overcome writer’s block and her trip to Texas to discover her genealogy turns into more than she ever imagined. At first I thought the book may be more genealogically driven, but the home town, small town atmosphere was paramount and resonated with me. The residents of Morgan Grove felt like people I knew and friends I was making along the way with Jill. Lucille was l the grandma everyone wishes they had fro her baking to her concern for others. Bonum brings you right to the heart of a small town where everyone is treated like family. She resonates with the reader in a way only a truly well told story can do. Small town romance at its best, I highly recommend Love Starts Here! I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Home Sweet Holiday by Michele Paige Holmes, Book Review

Book Summary:

Nearly four years have passed since Anna Lawrence fled her hometown the same day her best friends broke her heart and she was left at the altar. She’s hardly looked back since, while forging a new and solitary life in Seattle. When duty calls her home, she reluctantly returns to take care of the family store while her parents are away.

Holiday Harbor Series:
A Holiday Affair
Home Sweet Holiday
The Heart of Holiday

My Review:

Holmes writes a beautiful and emotional journey of love, forgiveness, and healing. I honestly cannot remember the last book that I read that put me through such a gamut of emotions. I was on the rollercoaster with Anna and I didn't know how she would come out. Between her father having cancer and facing her past where she was completely betrayed by her best friend and fiancee, how could she heal her own heart? I loved the small town of Holiday, from the people, to the store Anna's parents own, everything felt like home and love. Even everyone knowing your business as soon as it happens, Holmes details a small town perfectly. This story made me feel and truly had me thinking about Anna's story weeks after I finished it. Home Sweet Holiday had me longing for home, family, and friends. Read this book, you will be glad you did! I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Otherwise Engaged by Joanna Barker, Blog Tour & Giveaway!!!

 Book Summary:

She’s never been afraid of breaking the rules—until she risks breaking her heart

Constantly stifled by the rules of Society, spirited Rebecca Rowley enjoys finding ways to quietly—or not so quietly—rebel. But riding bareback and avoiding nosy neighbors are nothing compared to the thrilling secret she is keeping from her family.
When Rebecca’s quick thinking saves the life of a young girl, she unwittingly attracts the attention of the child’s dashing brother, Lieutenant Nicholas Avery. As that attention turns flirtatious, Rebecca is forced to tell him the truth: she is secretly engaged—to the one man her family would never approve of. Fortunately, Lieutenant Avery is a navy man with no wish to marry, or so they both assume as they enter into a friendship. Rebecca hopes to change her family’s mind about her betrothed, but the more she comes to know the handsome lieutenant, the more she wonders if she promised her hand too hastily.

After all her carefully laid plans are shattered during a family crisis, Rebecca must force her heart to decide. Should she stay true to the promise she made or fight for the future she’s only just begun to imagine?

My Review:

I was instantly pulled out of my world and into Rebecca’s and honestly, I never wanted to leave. Rebecca was such a refreshing character, she could not seem to help saying what she felt and doing what she wanted to do. I admired her tenacity and her spirit; she was going to do whatever it was she put her mind to doing! She made me smile and laugh out loud while reading. Especially the comment about the preacher!  Her interactions with Lieutenant Avery had me swooning inside! I don’t want to give anything away so I will just say, I LOVED this story. Period. If you want a fantastic story with wonderful characters, then this is that book!

A Secret Arrangement by Heather Moore, Book Review

Book Summary:

What happens when two women race to spend their inheritance? An epic Grand Tour.

Evelyn Tucker has finally graduated from finishing school, but dreads living with her widowed aunt. On the appointed day, Aunt Margaret comes to collect Evelyn, and Margaret informs her that they’re going on a Grand Tour to spend as much of the estate money they can before a distant cousin inherits all. When Henry Gaiman discovers he’s inherited his distant uncle’s estate, he loathes the thought of returning to England since he’d rather continue with his archaeology dig in Egypt. Return he must, and there, he meets Evelyn, a woman who will change his world in more ways than one.

My Review:

Evelyn's story was easy to read and I finished it in one day. I was drawn into her love for history and where her journey was going to take her. Who knew it would be places she had never been and had only dreamed of visiting? How she ended up crossing paths with Henry was so interesting. Her Aunt Margaret just made me smile, she was so fun and endearing. Miss Worthen was an interesting character and I love how Moore makes each and every one memorable! This is just a book I loved, from the characters to the unusual setting of Egypt, this is one regency romance you will not forget!

The Highlander's Hidden Heart (Veteran's Club #3) by Julie Coulter Bellon, Book Review

Book Summary:

A duke's daughter. A Highland warrior. And a love worth fighting for.

Lady Elizabeth, daughter of the Duke of Barrington, has done her best to secure an advantageous match, but a shy nature, combined with a stutter, hasn't helped her cause. After two Seasons, her father won’t wait any longer and promises her to a man she despises. There doesn’t seem to be anything Elizabeth can do beyond wish for a freedom she’ll never have---until a charming Highlander appears and makes all her dreams of a love match seem within her reach.

Alec Ramsay unexpectedly inherits an earldom and must leave his beloved Scottish Highlands to present himself in London and settle the estate affairs. After meeting his new neighbor, Lady Elizabeth, he feels a connection to her that he’s never felt with any other woman. Alec makes every effort to further their acquaintance, but soon finds out that Elizabeth could be swept out of his reach before they have a chance to explore the feelings between them. With everything at stake, can he risk all for a chance at love−−before it’s too late?

**Originally a novella in the Timeless Romance collection, but now a full-length novel with more twists, turns, and romance!

My Review:

Okay regency romance fans, this book has that tall, dark, and handsome Highlander man with the Scottish accent to go with it! Who doesn't love a man with an accent? Swooning over here! Alec is endearing because he has a big heart and stands up for people. I love how he champions Lady Elizabeth. I could not stand the odious Lord Lindley, he was the worst and most vile of creatures. I wasn't sure how everything would end up playing out and the build up was nerve wracking to say the least! The Highlander's Hidden heart is easy to read, full of emotion, and a battle of love. I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

A Light Last Seen by Grace Greene, Book Review

Book Summary:

Chasing happiness and finding joy are two very different things--as Jaynie Highsmith has discovered. Can she give up searching for the one and reclaim the other? Or is she fated to repeat the mistakes her mother made?

Jaynie Highsmith grows up in Cub Creek on Hope Road acutely aware of the irony of its name, Hope, because she wants nothing more than to escape from it and the chaos of her childhood.

Desperate to leave her past behind and make a new life, she is determined to become the best version of herself she can create. But when she does take off, she also leaves ~ and forgets ~ important parts of her past and herself.

The new life is everything she wants, or so she thinks until she finds herself repeating the same mistakes her mother made. Is Jaynie destined for unhappiness? Is it like mother, like daughter? Did running away only delay the unhappiness she fears she is destined for?

Seventeen years after leaving home, Jaynie needs a new fresh start and returning to Cub Creek is critical, but she is determined that the visit will be as short as possible and then she'll be out and free again. However, a longer stay may be vital to her future because if she has any hope of changing her destiny, Jaynie must reconcile the past she turned her back on with her present.

My Review:

Somehow the little hollow in Cub Creek on Hope Road just connected to my soul. I do not even know how to explain it other than Jaynie's story tugged on my heartstrings. I remember thinking that I would just start the book and pick it up later, but that did not happen. Greene builds Jaynie's world so well that I felt like I was there with her, through each hard time and the good times too. Powerfully written and a commanding story, A Light Last Seen will stay with you long after you have read the last word.

A Haunting at Havenwood (Seasons of Change #6) by Sally Britton, Book Review

Book Summary:

Nothing will keep Louisa from her great-aunt's fortune. Except perhaps a phantom who turns out to be a most eligible bachelor.

Although Louisa Banner insists she is not the least bit superstitious, she cannot help her misgivings when her family announces she must spend October with her great aunt in a rundown Welsh castle riddled with tales of ghosts. The family hopes Louisa will endear herself to her aunt enough to win a grand inheritance. Louisa’s only wish is to avoid a run-in with any of the phantoms spoken of by the local villagers. When Louisa stumbles upon a forgotten graveyard, and a man whose name comes directly from a tombstone, she isn’t certain whether to run away in terror or stay and get to know the handsome spirit.

Erasmus Grey is cursed, and not only because he sometimes hears the voices of his dead grandparents. While most men would count it a blessing to be a wealthy, eligible bachelor, Ras is absolutely panic-stricken at the idea of finding a bride. Rather than succumb to the matchmaking mothers of London, he retreats to an old family cottage with no plans to return to Society. Though he manages to keep his presence in the country a secret, coming upon a lovely young woman during one of his rambles nearly undoes all his careful work. But when he realizes Miss Banner thinks him a ghost, Ras wonders if he might have found a way to cure his own fears.

The sixth book in the Seasons of Change series, A Haunting at Havenwood is a stand-alone novel. Check out the other books in the multi-author series to discover stories about change and love.

Book One: The Road Through Rushbury by Martha Keyes

Book Two: The Last Eligible Bachelor by Ashtyn Newbold

Book Five: (Coming soon) from Deborah M. Hathaway

Book Six: (Coming soon) A Haunting at Havenwood by Sally Britton

Book Seven: (Coming soon) His Disinclined Bride from Jennie Goutet

My Review:

Britton's story of Louisa and Ras pulled me in and would not let me go until the mystery was solved and the ghosts were content! I immediately felt a connection with Louisa and I wanted her to be loved and cherished since her mom just sent her away! Then her new found freedom brought her chance encounter with Ras who happened to pretend he was a ghost. If this book doesn't put you in the fall mood, I don't know if anything will. From fall leaves to ghosts and legends, this sweet regency romance is just the ticket to get you ready for the upcoming season! This is a wonderfully written story you will not want to put down.

This book was absolutely delightful every step of the way! There were princes and princesses, matches in the making, and a missing prince! How do you misplace a prince? I loved the fixes that Drina and George seemed to continually find themselves in! It made for laugh out loud moments and I wondered what mess they might find themselves in next. Widows of Somerset

Book Summary:

Rules of the Secret Society of Young Widows:
Rule 1: Be a widow.
Rule 2: Have an impeccable reputation.
Rule 3: Don't fall in love again.

AN HEIR TO SPARE by Rebecca Connolly
Widowhood has changed much for Anna—Lady Lyndham—but an unconventional heir to the estate was not something she had anticipated. Nor had she anticipated that he would have no intention of forcing her out, although he has every right to. And she certainly did not anticipate finding him handsome, charming, and unfailingly generous. But Ned Richards, the new Lord Lyndham, has a world of surprises in store for her, and not anticipating them will become quite the adventure.

THE WIDOW OF LAVENDER COTTAGE by Jen Geigle Johnson
As a widow, Lillian Hunter has never been in love and plans to never marry again, so the rules of the Secret Society of Young Widows suit her just fine. Her days are spent attempting to transform her newly inherited Lavender Cottage into a livable space until Oliver Wentworth shows up, asking for her late husband. Anxious to establish himself as a landed gentry in Somerset, Oliver is none too pleased to discover that a widow lives alone in a tiny run down cottage bordering his new property. The fact that she’s young and attractive only adds frustration to his sense of responsibility over her. And confound her, she challenges his every attempt to help manage her affairs.

A PROMISE FORGOTTEN by Heather B. Moore
Charlotte Ashford never thought she’d marry a vicar, and she never thought she’d find herself widowed with a young child to care for on her own. She certainly never thought she’d return to Somerset to live with her mother again, and Charlotte never thought she’d see him again. But Lord Wilshore has never forgotten her, and he has never forgotten their promise made long ago. Charlotte would love nothing more than for Lord Wilshore to forgive her, but too much heartache and too much time might make that impossible. Friendship is all she can hope for, but that hope may be dashed as well.

My Review:

This anthology includes three great authors who each wrote a fun novella about a widowed woman. Each novella had its own main character but all included the secret society for widows run by Lady Joanna. I loved how the society of widows was the element that wove the three stories together, yet each story was its own and unique! Being able to read a single short story when I didn’t have a lot of time was perfect for me. Wonderfully woven together and skillfully told, Widows of Somerset is one anthology that you do not want to miss! I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
