Madilyn Paige Debut CD Tour!!!

About this CD:

You may remember her from Season 6 of The Voice, but if not you will be blown away when you listen to her vocals.  Madilyn is a young, teenager from Provo/Orem with good values and a new EP that releases February 2nd.  She has a pop sound that can be enjoyed by kids, teens, and adults alike!

My Review:

Well I definitely remember Madilyn from when she was on The Voice and I really liked her then.  However, in her time since The Voice she has gotten even better!  Madilyn's voice has an ethereal quality to it and her debut album is full of songs that are beautiful and catchy!  I found that the entire family was up and dancing and moving to the beat, even trying to sing along the first time we listened to it! This album is definitely a keeper and will be transferred to my phone shortly! Among my favorites are Irreplaceable and Little Things!  I was also also impressed that Madilyn co-wrote every song on her album!  An amazing new talent, I am excited to hear more from her in the future!

Queen (Regency Refuge #3) by Heather Gray, Book Review

You can't hide from the past.

Queen's world was shattered, and she was banished to a foreign land. Years pass before she dares to return, but what she finds is of little comfort. Greed and dishonesty have festered and grown in her absence. Disillusioned, Queen trusts few people.

Owen pursues a clandestine investigation and finds himself working side-by-side with a veritable ghost, an agent few have seen, a master of disguise known simply as Queen. He craves her trust...but then uncovers a secret from his family's past that could destroy her.

Queen once sought refuge in America and now seeks it in disguise. Owen has always found his refuge in God, but will his faith be strong enough for the challenges ahead? Can he convince Queen to stop hiding, or is he doomed to become her most hated enemy?

My Review:

Hello to Heather Gray, where has this book been all my life?!? I loved this story so much! It had a life of its own and the story was so engaging. From one page to the next, I could never be sure what was going to happen or what new secret or tidbit would be revealed. Queen and Owen were jump off the page characters with intriguing personalities! This book consumed my thoughts and I stayed up until the wee hours to finish it. Gray weaves a regency tale like no other! Romance, cloak and dagger, secret agents, and mystery....I couldn't get enough of it! Pick this book up, read it, you will not be sorry!

Side note:  I have not read the first two books in the series and I found this completely fine as a stand alone novel.

Rating:  Clean romance

Duping Cupid by Gina Ardito, Book Review

“Because sometimes, even Cupid needs a little help...”

Vivi Maxwell runs Cupid To Go, a unique dating service in New York. When wealthy client and former model, Ava Featherstone, seeks an escort for the winter season in Manhattan society, she sets her sights on Vivi's best friend, Sebastian “Bass” Lawrence.

Vivi and Bass have both been burned in their love lives and have never considered their relationship more than platonic. But Ava’s sudden intrusion makes Bass realize he’s in love with his best friend, Vivi. Now, with Ava’s help, he’ll try to dupe Vivi into seeing that the man she’s been waiting for has stood beside her all along.

My Review:

This was the perfect read for when you don't have a ton of time but need a romantic pick me up! This is a shorter book (120 something pages) with a fun storyline that drew my interest right away! Vivi and Bass are the main characters; I loved Vivi's vibrant personality and Bass was such a sweet and caring guy! The story is so fun and the scenes with Vivi's family are one of a kind (not necessarily the good kind either)! I loved Wulf and the role he played too! Okay so just go get the book and read it for yourself! It is a fun yet emotional story you won't want to miss out on!

Rating: A few cuss words, a few references to sex and one mention of the male anatomically correct part.  Overall a clean romance with no sexual scenes.

Gifted, A Valens Series, by Andy Lewter

The last thing Abigail Everett thought would happen over spring break was having her world shift into an entirely new perspective.
Unfortunately for her, that’s exactly what happened.
Between struggling to master her newly-formed abilities, coming face-to-face with dark, deceiving mind tricks by those that seek her leadership, and learning of a mythical world that she never deemed possible, Abigail risks everything with the future of mankind and the safety of its people in her hands.

“I knew I was in mortal danger.  But I was finally able to breathe again—with him by my side.  Then dangerous eyes bore into mine, and darkness overtook me . . .”

My Review:

I lost sleep to finish this book! My eyes were burning by the time I read The End. I love the characters that Lewter has created. They were real and relatable, well except for the gifted part! Blending reality with fantasy, the gifted race of Valens is one I cannot stop thinking about. I need more of Nicholas, Miles and Abby! A bonus for this reader is that the supporting characters were just as interesting as the main characters, especially Navi and Damien. When all is said and done I am itching to get my hands on the next book! Seriously this girl needs the rest of the story! A YA novel you won't soon forget, Gifted will grab your attention and hold it until the very last word!

See Me by Susan Hatler, Book Review

Amy Love, a high school junior, plays a Ouija board with friends one night and unintentionally connects with someone whose, well, not visible to the naked eye. When her body’s taken over and her soul is stuck watching helplessly—she’s terrified. When the zombie guzzles bologna that she will have to work off at the gym—she’s angry. And, when her zombied body pulls up a news article on her laptop about a boy named Jonathan Miller who was recently in a car crash—she’s . . . intrigued.

When the zombie chooses another host, Amy learns that the zombie is actually teen Jonathan Miller, son of the famous Maisy's Meow comic creator Jacob Miller. Jonathan tells Amy he doesn’t know whether he’s dead or alive, only that when he’s not in a body, she is the only one who seems to know he exists.

Amy decides to help Jonathan discover what happened to him and, when they can’t find his body, they try to find a substitute—preferably one that isn’t occupied. On the journey, Jonathan leads Amy into all kinds of danger. To her surprise, he also leads her heart to somewhere unexpected. She’s always heard of love at first sight, not love at first fright, but how can Amy be falling for a boy she’s never even seen?

My Review:

I just finished reading this book and the word that best describes it is awesome! It is full of so many different emotions, from laughter to tears, from fear to love! This book covers it all and I couldn't put it down! It is so different with the zombie/ghost craziness and the story has this pull that I could not resist! The dynamic between all of the characters was realistic and I laughed so hard at parts there were tears in my eyes. Then in turn there were parts where I had tears from sadness. There is plenty of action in it too and the story played out nothing like I imagined!  It was pure awesomeness and I cannot wait for a second book like this one! See Me is one YA paranormal book that any teenager or one at heart will not want to miss! Hatler continues to amaze me with her ability to write any genre that pulls me in hook, line and sinker!

Prudence Pursued by Shirley Raye Redmond, Book Review

At the advanced age of twenty-seven, vicar’s daughter Prudence Pentrye is on the shelf. Content to occupy her time by attending meetings of Mr. Wilberforce’s Abolition Society and helping her father administer vaccines in an effort to prevent a small pox epidemic, Prudence is resolved to see that her younger cousin Margaret does not share her own unmarried fate.

But Margaret is plain and shy. She is repulsed when a swashbuckling baronet, Sir James Brownell, makes her an offer of marriage. With his sunburned skin, eye patch, and indifference to fashion, Sir James is not Margaret’s idea of a romantic suitor. Nor does Margaret enjoy his tales of fighting against Malay pirates and trekking through tropical jungles on the island of Borneo in hopes of capturing a living orangutan.

Prudence, however, finds herself secretly smitten. Will she maintain control of her traitorous heart or will she trust God to make her life richer and more rewarding than the one she had planned for herself?

My Review:

I just finished reading this book and it is not your typical regency! Prudence is much older than most girls and is content that she will never marry. She goes to Bath to encourage her cousin to accept a fortuitous marriage proposal. What ensues is an interesting and quite different story than I imagined! Redmond included some historical details about vaccinating against smallpox that were an integral part of the story, I really enjoyed that. As far as the story goes, there were a some slow parts where I had a hard time continuing on, but towards the end it really picked up speed and I raced to finish it. I was left longing for just a bit more but I am a reader who wants all the details! Overall, a very nice regency from Redmond!

Excerpt I can’t believe I am here. I can’t believe I’m standing here, gazing lovingly at Jared, surrounded by our friends and family, on this amazing beach with this marvelous sunset, as we make these vows—these incredible, sure-to-make-you-cry vows—to each other. The colors are all muted, antique tones of pink, yellow, gold. My bouquet is practically bursting with soft pink roses. My makeup is not whorish, as my sister, Anna, would have preferred, and my hair is done in perfect, long curls, half pulled up with a small, antique jeweled clip. Simple. Understated. Exactly what I wanted. And then there’s my dress. My dress is spectacular. It’s timeless, really, just slightly off-white, an off-the-shoulder bodice with details of stunning Chantilly lace and a sweeping train. I heart it. I heart it all. Especially Jared. In his classic suit—none of that penguin stuff for him—he looks like something out of a style magazine. His pants and jacket are perfectly tailored, and he wears the antique pink tie just because I want him to. I glance over at my bridesmaids—my baby sister Anna and my dearest friend, Betsy Brown—gazing at us with bright smiles. Anna’s has an ever-so-slight look of jealousy, but I beam at them. This is the perfect day. My perfect day with Jared. “Do you, Jared Nathan Moody, take Julia Warner Dorning to be your lawfully wedded wife? To have and to hold from this day forward, until death do you part?” the officiant, dressed in white, asks Jared. “I do,” he says simply. “And do you, Julia Warner Dorning, take Jared Nathan Moody to be your lawfully wedded husband? To have and to hold from this day forward, until death do you part?” the priest asks. “I do,” I say as I stare into Jared’s eyes. His are filling up with tears, and I begin to well up too. “Then by the power that is vested in me, I now pronounce you man and wi—” “JULIA! What the hell? What are you doing in my dress?” Anna’s screeching pulls me out of my fantasy. “Geez, I leave you alone in here for ten minutes, and you think it’s okay to put my wedding dress on? Mom! Tell her to take my dress off!” Anna stomps her foot in a ridiculous, childlike manner. My mom comes in the room just after Anna and puts her hand to her mouth. “Oh, Julia dear, what are you doing?” “Nothing! Geez, I was just seeing how it felt, that’s all. Stop pouting like you’re ten,” I say to Anna, who is practically throwing an adult version of a temper tantrum.
