Revenge Never Rests (Tallie Brown Suspense Novel #2) by Laurie Lewis, New Release Book Review

Book Summary:

Tallie Brown has spent a lifetime hiding from the ghosts of someone else’s past. Raised by a paranoid woman on the run, Tallie learned from an early age how to disappear. Now she must employ her unique set of skills to track down hundreds who have simply vanished, so when an Amber Alert wakes her in the night, she is the first to respond to the call. But tracking the missing girl comes with unexpected consequences, leading her down a deadly path paved with lies and personal loss that ends in a single devastating truth: General Cai Kaswell, the father she just discovered and the world’s best hope for peace, is among the vanished.

As she struggles to find General Kaswell, Tallie is drawn into a conspiracy that links her past to the string of unsolved disappearances. Her search for answers sends her around the globe, but when it nearly takes the lives of her trusted friends and leaves her alone, she is assigned to a charming operative she doesn’t fully trust. Forced to watch her own back as she searches for General Kaswell and the others, not only does she discover she is the unwitting catalyst for the disappearance of the missing people but she and her father are also drawn into a plot that threatens the Constitution and the balance of world power.

My Review:

Lewis pulls all of the punches and starts right back in to Tallie’s life where we stopped at the end of Secrets Never Die. The action and suspense are palpable throughout the book and trying to solve the intricate mysteries kept me page turning until the very end. Tallie’s story is deeply emotional and it had me completely captivated. I found myself rallying behind her circle, Jackson, Mak, Rich, Marlene, and Norris. Her circle was amazing and their willingness to put themselves on the line was true friendship. Don’t start this book unless you have plenty of time because it will keep you up until you have finished the last word. I could not put it down until the mysteries were solved. Lewis has a knack for intricately weaving multiple threads together into one tapestry. Once it was all sorted I was amazed at how it all fit together. Revenge Never Rests will not let you rest until you have read the entire book. If you are a fan of mystery and suspense then this is a must read (but make sure you read Secrets Never Die first)! I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

But new clients are not the only thing drawn in by the star-crossed lovers’ fake relationship. They also grab the attention of a famous fitness mogul who tells them he wants to sponsor one of their gyms. The catch? One of them has to beat the other in a televised competition.

With undeniable attraction pulling the two together for real, Cam and Kailani agree to set their differences aside and enjoy the time they get to spend together while competing. Each new challenge becomes a chance for the two of them to get to know each other better, but their pasts keep getting in the way.

Unless they can learn to truly trust each other, not even a miracle can save a relationship that was doomed from the start.

Love on Display is a sweet, closed door romantic comedy that can be read as a standalone or as part of the series.

My Review:

Another fantastic installment in The Wonder Boys series! If you are a fan of rom com then get some Wonder Boys in your life! They will have you laughing and crying. The meet cute at the half marathon was so great, it made for a fantastic beginning to the story. The rivalry between the gyms, Cam and Kailani, and their dynamic and emotional relationship kept me page turning. Having a reality show competition was something I didn’t see coming and I loved how their relationship grew and changed all while competing on reality TV. The Wonder Boys made for the best support system and the addition of Isla was great! She is a firecracker and I hope she makes an appearance in the next book. I cannot get enough of the Wonder Boys and I will be so sad when this series ends! Fans of rom com and feel good stories will enjoy Love on Display  and any of the Winder Boy books! I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Call of the Sea by Sian Ann Bessey, Blog Tour & Giveaway!!!

Book Summary:

On the eve of her betrothal to a nobleman she’s never met, Rhiannon seeks comfort on the shores of the sea she loves so well. But instead of offering peace to her uneasy heart, the ocean heralds doom with the arrival of dreaded Viking ships. A vicious raid leads to the death of her beloved father and leaves Rhiannon’s life in tatters. Heartbroken, she travels to Ynys Môn, where she takes up residence at the royal court of Owain Gwynedd.

Leif loves voyaging on the open water. As the son of a Viking chief, he’s accustomed to his people’s practice of plundering and looting. But when one of his companions ruthlessly kills an old man in front of the man’s beautiful daughter, Leif is haunted by the memory. Desperate to find forgiveness for the atrocity he allowed to occur, he’s offered a chance at redemption through the kindly teachings of an Irish priest and the unexpected arrival of a royal fugitive. Suddenly thrust into the midst of the Cymry’s political turmoil, Leif is reunited with the dead man’s daughter—Rhiannon. Forced to work side by side to uncover the truth behind the turmoil, they come to discover that love can grow from even the most tragic of beginnings. But with such incompatible backgrounds, surely a future together can never be theirs.

My Review:

The Call of the Sea is a beautiful and detailed historical novel that I could not put down. It is my favorite book of 2022!  Lief and Rhiannon’s story was emotional, heartfelt, and full of so many twists and turns. This is an award winning story. From Viking lands to the kingdom of Gwynedd, I felt like I learned so much. But more than that, I was pulled completely into the story and so wrapped up in it that I lost track of time. And I could not put it down! The story is electric, it has a life of its own. I needed to know what would happen. I felt like I was watching it unfold right in front of me, like I was in the story. I became a part of it. Bessey’s transports you to Wales and Ireland, to the sea with the Vikings and to the castle with the royals. A journey of redemption, truth, forgiveness, and love, The Call of the Sea is an extraordinary tale that you will not soon forget.  I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Games in a Ballroom by Jentry Flint, Book Review

Book Summary:

She was forbidden to love him.
He only wanted her heart.
Can a childhood game bring them together?

London, 1815

Olivia Wilde has resigned herself to never finding a love match. Her father has insisted she marry a man with a title, but the men her father deems acceptable are either boring or are only interested in increasing their own diminishing coffers. With her future looking dismal, Olivia vows to enjoy the last few months of freedom with her childhood friends, including Emerson Latham. His devilish smile and flirtatious teasing stirs up feelings she knows she cannot entertain.

Emerson is struggling to rise to his responsibilities after his father's death. Though he is still learning his place, one thing he knows for certain is that he wants Olivia Wilde to be his wife. Emerson had long ago fallen in love with her quick wit, beauty, and passionate heart. Yet, without a title, he will never be permitted to court Olivia openly. But he has a plan that may give him a chance to court her in secret.

As the Season kicks off, Emerson proposes a playful game of tag. Olivia's friends are delighted by the idea, though Olivia is wary. After all, the game must be played in secret as they tag each other at dinners and balls. As the romance builds between Olivia and Emerson, so does the risk of being discovered. Not only are their reputations at stake, so is their safety if they are caught by Olivia's strict father.

Can their love find a happily ever after before the game ends?

My Review:

This debut novel by Flint pulled me in and kept my interest right from the start! Let me say that I could not get over the hideous monstrosities that were Olivia’s ballgowns! How could her father do that to her? Seriously no daughter should be subjected to bad fashion! And her father insisted she marry a man with a title. Could he be more demanding? The entire book I was caught up in the game of tag between Olivia, Emerson, and their friends. I enjoyed the undercurrent of feelings that Emerson had for Olivia while she was oblivious to what was happening. The depth of emotion in the story surprised me but also made the story complete. I really enjoyed the escapades and laugh out loud moments. This is a fun and clean read that I recommend to any regency fan. A wonderful debut novel by Flint, I am crossing my fingers there will be stories for the other characters sometime soon. I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Seasoned with Love (Prosperity Ranch #4) by Heather B. Moore, Book Review

Book Summary:

She’s not looking for a relationship, only to grow her career. And he's solely focused on raising his young daughter. Nothing can turn his head, until he meets Cara Prosper.

USA Today bestselling author Heather B. Moore welcomes you to Prosperity Ranch!

Cara Prosper has tried and failed at romance, so it's better to focus on what she can do well. Cook. When she's hired to cook for an elite holiday event at a ranch in Wyoming, her childhood memories rise up again. Family has always been important to her, but it's never been everything. After meeting big shot film producer, Roman De Marco, she discovers that first impressions can be dead wrong. And Roman might be exactly what she's been missing.

(All characters in this book are fictional and not based on real people. The town of Prosper is also fictional and not named after any other towns named Prosper.)

Books in the series:
One Summer Day
Steal My Heart
Not Over You
Seasoned with Love
Take a Chance

My Review:

This is a heartwarming Christmas romance story that I absolutely adored. If you want a feel good read, this is a definite must for your TBR pile! I loved the Prosperity Ranch series and Cara’s story is so good! I loved little Mia, she was a perfect part of the story and my heart kind of melted.

Cara and Roman had the best encounters and conversations. They hit things right off and isn’t that how it works when you aren’t really looking for a relationship? I loved the setting! This beautiful ranch in Wyoming in the winter during Christmas time. Cara being a chef made the whole season really come alive for me, I loved reading about what she was making or baking. It isn’t the holidays without good food. Add in the whole hit tv series being filmed with Roman being the producer and it made for a fantastic read! Honestly this story was a refreshing contemporary romance that I would recommend to any of my friends. It can be read as a standalone even though it is better appreciated if you read the whole series. I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Come, Gentle Night by Stephanie Black, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

After her entanglement in several homicide investigations, psychologist Natalie Marsh is determined to avoid further trouble. But when her intern needs help monitoring and calming family drama for the duration of a party, Natalie steps up. After all, acting as a peacemaker at a fundraising gala seems relatively risk-free in comparison to her past escapades—what could happen at a dance? When an argument between feuding guests becomes assault, Natalie realizes the situation is more complicated than she anticipated, with one man at the center of it all: Rowan Montrose.

Four years ago, Rowan’s brother was convicted of murdering his wife. But Rowan believes there’s more to the story, suspecting that the real murderer is walking free. His romantic interest in the younger sister of a police detective renders him more determined than ever to clear the family name. Familiar with Natalie’s reputation, he seeks out her assistance. Natalie tries to decline—she’s no private detective—but as frightening incidents unfold, it’s clear she’s in the middle of this whether she wants to be or not, and breaking through the layers of deception that hide the truth may have lethal consequences.

My Review:

This next book in the Natalie Marsh series is off the charts! The suspense, the action, the whodunnit, I was suspecting everyone! Black pulls the reader straight into Natalie and Gideon’s world and doesn’t let them go until the last word is read. The mystery alone keeps the reader page turning but add in all of the suspense and crazy situations and this book is unputdownable! Warning: do not start this book at night! You will not be able to put it down once you start reading it. This one is a sleep thief that keeps you engaged until the very last page. If you love suspense novels Come, Gentle Night is a must read! I couldn’t put it down, I flew right through the pages. This can definitely be read as a standalone but it is a part of a series. I received a copy of this  book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

In the Shadow of a Queen by Heather B. Moore, Book Review

Book Summary:

Based on the true story of the free-spirited daughter of Queen Victoria.

Princess Louise’s life is upended after her father’s untimely death. Captive to the queen’s overwhelming mourning, Louise is forbidden to leave her mother’s tight circle of control and is eventually relegated to the position of personal secretary to her mother—the same position each of her sisters held until they were married.

Already an accomplished painter, Louise risks the queen’s wrath by exploring the art of sculpting, an activity viewed as unbefitting a woman. When Louise involves herself in the day’s political matters, including championing the career of a female doctor and communicating with suffragettes, the queen lays down the law to stop her and devotes her full energy to finding an acceptable match for her defiant daughter.

Louise is considered the most beautiful and talented daughter of Queen Victoria, but finding a match for the princess is no easy feat. Protocols are broken, and Louise exerts her own will as she tries to find an open-minded husband who will support her free spirit.

In the Shadow of a Queen is the story of a battle of wills between two women: a daughter determined to forge her own life beyond the shadow of her mother, and a queen resolved to keep the Crown’s reputation unsullied no matter the cost.

My Review:

Wow, wow, wow! This book is amazing. I had no idea I could become so completely engrossed in a historical novel. Moore does a phenomenal job of bringing the reader right into the setting, you can envision everything as if you were there with the royal family and visiting the royal estates. Moore explains the customs, the protocols, and everything else that goes along with royalty so well. I had no idea the ins and outs of being a member of a royal family. I absolutely loved Louise (fourth daughter of Queen Victoria), what a wonderful and talented person she was. She was so genuine and down to earth. She had hopes and dreams she wanted to achieve and I found myself wanting them to come to fruition on her behalf. The amount of research that went into this book shows through. I learned so much about the time period and Queen Victoria and her children. Extraordinarily captivating, In the Shadow of a Queen is hands down the best historical novel I have read this year. I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
